Brakes Failed problems of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving 15 mph, the contact heard the antilock brakes engage. The failure occurred on dry pavement and caused the brakes to fail. Through research, he discovered a recall on the 2000 models (NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The recall was extended to some 1999 models; however, the contact's VIN was not included, even though he was experiencing the same failure. The failure mileage was 150,000 and current mileage was 166,000. Updated 07/08/08.

: the contact stated while driving 5 mph, the brakes failed, causing an accident. Two occupants in the vehicle directly in front of the contact's vehicle were injured. That vehicle was totaled and the occupants were taken to the hospital by ambulance. There were no details about the injuries sustained. There was a total of five vehicles involved in the collision. The contact's vehicle sustained damage to the grill, bumper and both front fenders. The air bag deployed and the seatbelt was worn. The three other vehicles sustained minor damage, although no information was available. A police report was taken. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer, but the vehicle was not part of NHTSA recall # 05v379000 for the service brakes: hydraulic: antilock. The manufacturer was notified.

Within the past 2 weeks, my 1999 chevy Tahoe began experiencing a problem with the abs brakes. When slowing down and performing normal braking prior to coming to a stop, the abs kicks in at very low speed (<5mph) and the brakes essentially fail. I contacted my dealer about this problem and they said the 1999 Tahoe (old style) is not covered under a recall.

Brake failure.

While driving at 45 mph and under the brakes failed to engage properly. The car will not stop properly. The consumer has to pump on the brakes to stop-sometimes this did not work. The vehicle was taken to Chevrolet dealer, and they said there was a problem with the abs brakes. No repairs or corrections were made. At one incident the consumer was towing a horse trailer at 45 mph. When brake pressure was applied, there were no brakes, a complete failure, causing the horse trailer to jackknife. The brakes failed and engaged and failed and engaged as reported by the consumer. This resulted in the trailer damaging the vehicle, trailer, and injury to the horses. There have been no repairs or corrections made to the abs system at this time.

The contact stated this vehicle was having the same problem as mentioned recall 05v379000, butt his vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN. This occurred for approximately one year. The brakes continually pulsated whether the vehicle was moving or parked. The vehicle has been to the dealership twice for brake failure. The last time they found that both abs hubs were bad. Due to the expense no repairs were performed. Udated 12/27/05.

Was braking vehicle & the steering wheel was shaking. Made controlling of vehicle hard. Took to dealer & informed by mechanic that brake rotors were causing the shaking problem. Mechanic took the brake rotors off & informed owner they were made of tin. Rotors were replaced with a different type. Front and back brakes failed twice.

I tried to stop the car and I was not able to get the vehicle to a complete top. The car only slowed down until I hit the vehicle infront of me. I have reported the brakes failure to the dealer previously. The dealer's response is that this is normal.

Brakes failed and rearended another vehicle. Vehicle wa stotaled.
