I was in an accident today. The reason for the accident is that my anti-lock brakes engaged at less than 15 mph therefore not allowing me to stop in time. The brake actually felt as if they were not working at all. I was informed that newer models were included in a recall in the salt belt, but not in mn. What can we do to fix the problem? it happened in mn and in a 1999 Tahoe. Thanks, joan godfrey.

The recall that chevy has for the antilock brakes only goes back to 2000. Mine had the same issue and I had to replace the entire hub assembly on each side because it got so bad that they were activating all the time. I do not have the parts, but I got it repaired at a service garage and have the receipt.
I have a 1999 chevy Tahoe. There have been a few instances when I have applied the brakes at low speeds; the brakes lock causing the truck to skip and skid. This is terrifying, as I do not know when the truck will stop. Sometimes the skip and skid will go for 10-15 feet before finally stopping. Twice I have almost hit another vehicle. A third time I had to drive off the road to avoid a collision because the truck would not stop. There is a current recall issued by NHTSA #05v379000 but does not extend to California. I reside in northern California. This vehicle is used in the snow/sleet/rain. The condition (summary of recall) is in occurring in my vehicle here in northern California and should be considered in the recall. This is a very dangerous occurrence with the brakes that could result in a motor vehicle accident.
