Leaving to go on vacation and putting things in the rear of car when we noticed that the hinge on the right side of the liftgate was broken. We managed to secure the window and had to go anyway. Never opened the rear again until leaving to come home from vacation and noticed that the other side has broken off . We managed to secure the window and drove home very cautiously praying that the window would stay in place. Checked to see if there was a recall on this, but to no avail. , but I did see where this has been a constant problem .

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe c1500. She noticed that the rear lift gate glass was loose and made a noise whenever it was opened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the failure was located in the lift gate hinge. The dealer replaced the lift gate assembly and glass with a newly design lift gate. The failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was 87,000.

One of the plastic hinges to the rear lift gate/rear window of my 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe separated, and now the rear window does not close properly. The vehicle is less than five years old with approximately 55,000 miles. This is a kin to a passenger door coming apart. I do not believe that it is reasonable for a door to a vehicle to fail after the limited amount of use it gets, and the age and wear to the vehicle. The dealership, gordon Chevrolet (tampa, florida), told me that the whole lift gate/rear window would have to be replaced because the part (15847109) is one unit. The cost is an incredible $855. 55 for the part, $96. 98 for labor, shop supplies, and tax which brings the cost of replacing Chevrolet's defective part to over $1,000. 00.
I have a 2000 chevy Tahoe. Recently the rear window glass hinge in the liftgate failed. The glue that connects the glass to the hinge failed and now the rear window is being held in place by only the latch and the other hinge. This is a major safety issue. If the glass were to fall out in the road it would be a major hazard to other motorists. This hinge has failed under normal use conditions and was in no way abused. I just called my local dealer, cox Chevrolet in bradenton, FL and they informed me it is not covered under warranty and the cost of a new one is over $1,000. This is a manufacturing defect. I noticed other posts on the internet be persons who had the same failure and did not have the problem corrected by general motors. Please advise on any thing that can be done to get gm to address this product flaw.

To whom it may concern:
I have a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe lt 4x4. I recently noticed a popping sound each time I lifted the cargo door. We soon realized that the glass was loose and when we went to lift up the glass which lifts separately from the door, we realized the hinge had separated from the glass. The other side is also starting to crack. I was told by the dealership that it was not covered in my warranty that I had purchased at the time I purchased the Tahoe. It will cost me 802. 50 to replace the back window because it is all one piece. This does not even cover the labor. I was also told not to drive on the freeways until I have it fixed because the window could rip off from force of wind. To me, this is a very dangerous problem and could ultimately kill someone. I have done some research and noticed that there have been others that this has happened to as well. Therefore, I am wondering if it is a manufacturer defect and if these models should be recalled.

Rear window hatch frame broke away from hinges on the body frame. When opening the rear hatch window the hatch separated from the body on the right side. The left side broke/separated as well on its own. The car is not drivable in this condition as the window could now easily completely become detached from the car thus causing serious injury or death. I filed a complaint with gm #1355994572 which is pending resolution.
Upon opening the liftgate glass on my 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe the passenger side body-to-glass hinge separated from the glass. The glass will latch but does not make a weatherproof seal and can not be opened.

Back glass lift gate hing came unglued/unattached and when we opened the window, it sprung way out of wack and wouldn't close properly. Chevrolet dealer that fixed it, said they have seen many of these hinges fail.
Liftate glass separates from hinges. Local dealer and local glass shops say this is common problem. Chevrolet denies ever hearing of this trouble. If this had happened at highway speeds the back window would have shattered and who knows what the end result could have been.
