When trying to open the liftgage, either manually or by pushing the button, the liftgate opens partially then suddenly falls. I have seen a recall for this, however I am not able to locate a recall specifically for a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe. "the affected vehicles have gas struts that hold the power liftgate up when open," said NHTSA in its recall summary. "these struts may prematurely wear and the open liftgate may suddenly fall. It may strike a person, increasing their risk of injury. ".

Getting baseball equipment out of the back of my vehicle, the power liftgate rose almost to the top and then started to auto close on my son. The force could have killed him if someone wasn't there. I'm a physically fit man and I had difficulty holding up the lift gate.

The liftgate malfunction is both bizarre and dangerous. When opened it proceeds to drop about a foot quickly, enough to create serious head contact. It then proceeds to close without use of sensors, repeatedly pinning the operator against the back of the car. Only with strength and agility did my wife manage to slide out the side. We are thankful that the only damage was a bruise on her leg. It could have been much worse for an older, less agile person. It happens when vehicle is stationary, on or off. The dealer plans to replace the liftgate actuator, but it will be at our expense. Chevy has declined coverage because we are not the original owner, we did not buy it from a chevy dealer and we did not purchase extended warranty coverage. There is no recall outstanding so they have no obligation to help us. Had my wife gone to a doctor for the bruise on her leg chevy's decision would have gone to a different supervisor, but we do not act that way. We are just grateful that she had the wherewithal to escape from a very dangerous situation. I have a video of the problem, but it is not in a format (imov) that can be uploaded here. I will hold on to it.

The liftgate glass hinge has separated from the moulding causing the liftgate glass window to become unsafe since it is now held onto the car by only one rubber hinge bracket. The glass in the liftgate will not close and could becoe separated from the car while the car is moving down the highway causing serious injury to cars following my car. The local dealer stated that he had seen the problem before but there is no recall and my only recourse was to purchase a new rear liftgate window at a cost of nearly $1000. I am now on record as having stated in writing that, in my opinion, this is a serious situation and this manufacture defect could cause the rear glass to become separated from the car at highway speeds and hit another vehicle on the highway. The odometer on my car reads 40,000 miles.

2006 Tahoe rear liftgate/glass will not open. Owners manual states to insert key to unlock. I feel that correct parts were not supplied during build process and this is major safety issue when no interior manual release installed. Other vehicles have manual trunk release and feel this should be recalled by gm and corrected. Also the part is dealer item only so repair is significantly higher.
