Five problems related to ignition switch have been reported for the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When turning the ignition switch off from the run position while in park, the switch slips into the accessories position with no effort to turn the key. Truck will not turn off of assesoriy position until I wiggle the key for a while. The key can be removed after turning off truck but remains on assesory. Happens every time. Been doing this for a week now. [8-03-16 to present].
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the ignition switch can be turned over without the key intermittently. The contact stated that the battery had been drained more than once due to removing the key and the ignition had been in a forward position intermittently. The contact had to continue to check to ensure that the ignition was in the off position after removing the key. The vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. Dyd.
I have a 2004 chevy Trailblazer; while driving on the highway; all guages, lights, etc. Abruptly stopped working and continue to not work. I researched on line and found it could be what is called the "cluster board". I took my vehicle to a local chevy dealer in daytona beach FL. They insisted it was the ignition switch. They replaced that mechanism for just under $300. The following week (this occurred in 2010); the exact same situation recurred; so I brought it back to the dealer and they then agreed it was the cluster board which would now cost me close to $700. 00. In order to avoid being ripped off to the tune of almost $1k; I purchased a gps unit so I could at least monitor my speed. The speed/rpms never register correctly; however, so far the other guages seems to be ok (except for the oil pressure, it goes out of whack frequently so I just bring it in quickly to make sure I have sufficient oil and that it's clear/clean). Most recently my headlights just go out without warning; I am able to use the high beams, but of course that puts me in jeopardy of getting a ticket. There are so many complaints on the 2004 chevy Trailblazer - I do not understand why there has not been a recall on the cluster board and the electrical issues (lighting). I cannot afford to have all the repairs completed and would like to see Chevrolet take on some responsibility for the cost of these flaws in the manufacturing of this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The consumer stated the vehicle was at a stop, but still running. The contact noticed that all the lights on the instrument panel had suddenly illuminated. He turned the vehicle off and noticed that neither the windows nor doors would not unlock. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the ignition switch was replaced. The current and failure mileages were 47,717. Updated 7/16/10 at one point the consumer was unable to open any of the doors and had to turn the vehicle completely off. Once he turned the vehicle back on, everything operated as normal. The dealer stated there was an internal failure in the ignition switch. Updated 07/21/jb.
My 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext has the same problems all the other Trailblazers have. Poor design and subpar manufacturing of parts in foreign countries have resulted in electrical problems that cannot be fixed. Gauges and lights randomly going crazy, heat and a/c may or may not operate, vehicle may or may not start, key may or may not release from ignition. Ignition switch has been replaced multiple times in last two years and often brand new ignitions straight out of the box from the dealer parts department are no good. As other gm vehicles with the same exact problems have been recalled one would think Trailblazer owners should deserve the same courtesy. Clearly gm disagrees. I guess when you know uncle sam will always be there to bail you out you can do what you want and still sleep good at night. I wouldnt know . As the parent of four children this is a serious safety issue with me. I can no longer drive it as I know it is not dependable.
