54 problems related to dashboard failed have been reported for the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1 owner vehicle - bought in 2004 & had 8 miles on it. Has been very well kept & currently has only 65,000 miles on it as of 9/16/19. As others, the electrical cluster has malfunctioned. Speedometer quit working over a year ago & now the fuel gauge has failed. Problem is with the cluster as "estimated mileage" still works. Have noticed that other gauges act erratic at times. This has been an ongoing issue that chevy is well aware of yet fail to act. To tb to dealer for repairs they stated there is no recall. Cost out of my pocket for repair will be over $800. 00. Speedometer originally failed while driving on hwy. It started to work again but failed again while driving on the hwy a few weeks later. Fuel guage simply stopped working after starting vehicle.
Instrument gauge cluster shorting out. . . Started with tach, then oil gauge, now speedometer. Seems to be an epidemic with many gm vehicles, other models recalled, clearly a manufacturing issue. Gm needs to include Trailblazer in recall.
None of the gauges in the instrument cluster work at all. I had all of the stepper motors, and the needles replaced. Parts and labor totaling $350. 00, and as soon as I was down the street 4 out of the 6 did not work, and these repairs where just done in 2015. Now the two that were working just quit 3 days ago. I do not know how much gas I have,I do not know how fast I am going, I do not know if my vehicle is running hot, or if the battery is charging. I have nothing. This problem happens while driving every time I start the car. I bought the vehicle used and the gauges were broke when I bought it cause I thought that I could get them fixed. I have been researching this topic on Trailblazers in general on the trailvoy forum, and you would be sick to see how many owners of Trailblazers, or to read the stories. Also it is irresponsible to let people drive a vehicle under these conditions, and very, very, very unsafe. To not know anyone of these things could cause the vehicle to stop while driving resulting in an accident. I will be waiting along with thousands of others for your recall. J. S.
I have a 2004 chevy Trailblazer and the cluster is going bad . Finding out that I'm not the only one that has this problem . I had the same problem with my chevy avalanche and it was recalled . I think that this a problem while driving . I think someone should do something before someone gets hurt. Because the gauges go out the on and while driving. It could hurt a young driver that doesn't what to do. Gm knows the problem but will not do anything about it . It the same problem that they did a recall on with the trucks. So I think they should fix this problem. So could you please help before someone gets hurt bad over this problem. Thank you please help!.
Vehicle was being driven when all dash gauges failed. Particularly concerning was the failure of the speedometer. Gm has admitted that other vehicles have had this problem and have paid for and installed replacement dash clusters on some models. The 2004 Trailblazer is not covered as there has not been enough occurrences of instrument cluster failure reported.
The stepper motors in the instrument cluster have failed. This is an extremely common problem and people are now making a living off of charging for the repairs because gm is refusing to issue a recall.
**instrument cluster** my speedometer started sticking when I would accelerate or dropping below 0 when I would stop. After several weeks the speedometer stopped working completely. None of the other guages appeared to be affected. I ended up having to have the instrument cluster replaced. The repair facility had to order it directly from Chevrolet which meant I was without the vehicle for 2-3 days as the dash was completely pulled apart. The repairs were around $800. I have seen quite a few other isntances of instrument cluster failure in those and other models of chevy. My brother in law said he had his replaced in his silverado and that it was covered under a recall but I have not been able to find that information.
Instrument cluster failure starting with tachometer then speedometer. At 90,000 +/- miles always have intermittent / obviously wrong info from tachometer (ussualy past 7000) and speedometer (always reads <20 mph).
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet trial blazer. The contact stated that the instrument panel gauges would fail sporadically. The dealer inspected the vehicle and advised that the gauge cluster would need to be replaced. In addition, the dealer stated that because the failure was common in his year, make and model, they would replace the cluster with an updated gauge cluster. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 125,000 and the current mileage was 130,000.
My speedometer failed and reads anything it wants. You can be doing 25mph and it will read 110mph or you can be doing 60mph and it will register 45mph. There are a million complaints on the internet about gm speedometers and other instrument clusters failing. I think this is a safety concern and should be investigated. Gm is just passing the buck when you ask for help. Just go to google and ask for gm instrument cluster failure and count the complaints. The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 35-40 mph, the speedometer began failing intermittently. The failure progressed until the entire instrument cluster failed. The contact was able to secure an appointment with the dealer for diagnosis and possible repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 48,000.
2004 chevy Trailblazer has instrument cluster failure. . . Tachometer stuck at "maximum", and dealer reports all the gauges will be unreliable, shortly. Have read dozens of these complaints, but gm (who * saved) won't make it right?.
Instrument panel cluster on 2004 chevy Trailblazer failing. Started with speedometer not registering correctly at around 85,000 miles. Then temp gauge pegged out at hot range, which cost me $200. 00 at dealer to replace a "sensor" which didn't fix the problem. Speedometer getting worse over the course of the next 15,000 miles culminating in complete malfunction of speedometer at 101,000 miles. Speedometer now will not go below 40 while stopped, and with any speed quickly registers 100 mph; while traveling at interstate speeds (using my tachometer below 2000 rpms) the speedometer is practically pegged out at max speed (> 125 mph). Never really know what speed I'm traveling; I could be speeding or I could be going too slow which is a hazard to other drivers as well as myself.
Instrument cluster, specifically the tachometer has gone out. From my research its just a matter of time before the rest of my gauges go out. Dealer had quoted me $600 dollars for replacement of cluster panel. This is a common problem and needs to be addressed.
Instrument cluster panel completely gone crazy. All gauges are out of control. I am not able to tell my speed and some of the lights come in in the panel while the truck is off. Have to disconnect the battery to make sure the thing will not catch fire. . This issue really needs to be investigated due to a possible fire hazzard.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the instrument cluster failed. The fuel level and battery gauge would fail intermittently. The dealer advised there was a defect in the ground wire and repairs would be at the contacts expense. The contact believed the manufacture should take the liability for the failure because he was able to locate hundreds of similar complaints online for his year, make and model pertaining to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 105,249.
Instrument cluster went dead - heater thermostat went out and drivers side is stuck on heat and won't shut off - sending the Trailblazer to obama and gov. 't motors - no chance it will ever get fixed since obama bought off the union!.
I've had issues with the odometer, gas and battery gauges for about a year. However, now the odometer drops and the car stalls and shuts off when I go to slow down. The check gauges light came on and off for a second. No other lights are on so I have no idea what this is. Car has about 75,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving 55 mph, the speedometer indicated a speed of 0 mph. Each time she operated the vehicle, the contact stated that the speedometer would display an improper reading. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where it was repaired. Three days later, the failure occurred again. In addition to the speedometer, the fuel gauge also gave incorrect readings on the fuel level and the rpm gauge also displayed incorrect readings. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel tank had to be removed and the rpm gauge failure had been repaired three times. The problems had not been remedied. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000 and the current mileage was approximately 142,000.
With driving home my speedometer starting screwing up. Now it doesn't work. Come to find out the cluster is bad. My dad has a 05 silverado and that cluster was recalled. Why not the Trailblazers with the same problem.
The instrument cluster for the dashboard began to fail. First, the rpm gauge no longer worked. After a little time had passed, the temperature gauge failed, then the battery gauge, then oil and gas. When various mechanics were asked about the problem, I was informed that it was a very common problem for Trailblazers and similar vehicles manufactured by gm. When gm was informed of this, they told me it was not under warranty and thus I would be responsible in fixing it.
2004 chevy trail blazer, speedometer, tachometer and gas gauge all failed while on the road. A speedometer is a must. I saw on the net where this is not an uncommon problem and the site said that gm has already won a law suit but has not issued a recall.
Instrument cluster fails to operate properly. The speedometer stopped working first, then battery, gas, and temperature gauges failed to work properly. Finally, there is no odometer reading or gear indicator showing on cluster.
Speedometer is inoperable. Tachometer works occassionally. Oil gauge is now starting to fail. There are only 41,000 miles on this vehicle and it is not only inconvenient to operate this vehicle without a speedometer, it is unsafe. Speedometer was the first gauge to go, then the tachometer began to faulter and the oil gauge followed. Tach sometimes resets itself to zero and may work for a week before it begins to fail again. There was no specific event leading up to the instrument cluster failure. It just began one gauge at a time. I have had it looked at by two seperate mechanics and was told that instrument failure in this type of vehicle is very common although no recall has been issued to correct this problem. I can have it repaired for $500. 00 - $1000. 00. Anything that you can do will be greatly appreciated.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving 60 mph, the instrument panel gauges blinked on and off, failed completely, and then returned to normal. There was no warning prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the instrument cluster failed. The repair would cost $100. The vehicle is currently being repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that no compensation would be provided because the failure was not covered under warranty or recall. The failure mileage was 47,000 and current mileage was 47,500. Updated 08/28/09 updated 08/31/09.
Instrument cluster failure. Speedometer & all other gauges suddenly failed. No speed or vehicle information available to driver.
Instrument cluster failure on 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Oil pressure and amps guage malfunction. Mechanic quoted price $650 to replace cluster. Emissions failure paid dealer approximately $375 to replace emissions pump. Air conditioning mode motor accuator out; blower doesn't operate on high setting. Dealer quoted price $750 to fix air conditioner. Sperratic electrical issues-service engine soon light on-first time code read faulty thermostat cooling sensor, next it read faulty air mass sensor, another time it read faulty emissions sensor. Mechanic quoted price $40 per hour plus parts to isolate problem. A person could go broke before fixing possible problems, considering no accident occured due to all these possibilities. Front suspension prolems, hard to isolate. Paid mechanic $135 to replace right side inner tie rod end. Did not fix problem. Problem occurs when returning steering wheel from a right turn, front right side makes a single "pop" sound. Had to replace "burnt" headlight pigtails on front, and park light pigtail on right rear. Property damage is considered damage to vehicle due to the complaints listed.
While exiting my child school parking lot the engine shut down and went into limp mode. I was in the middle of a busy intersection, had to turn hazard lights on so I wasn't hit. Could not go over 5 miles per hour. Speedometer has intermittently gone haywire. Instrument cluster failure.
2004 chevy Trailblazer instrument cluster failure. Approximately 1. 5 to 2 years ago I noticed that I had on and off problems with the rpm gauge and gas gauge. The other gauges, including the speedometer, started to fail and now none of them work at all. The vehicle has not been in any accidents and at this point, I have not had any work done to repair the problem due to the cost. I have been informed that this is a problem for this type of vehicle and that gm has recalled other vehicles of the same year for the same problem, but have not done it with the Trailblazer.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph the fuel displayed a half tank of gasoline; however, the fuel tank was empty causing the vehicle to shut off. The contact stated that at times the entire instrument cluster would malfunction. The dealer stated that the entire instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was fully aware of the instrument cluster failure but had not released a recall. The failure mileage was 82,400.
The speedometer and tachometer in my 2004 chevy Trailblazer stopped working a few months ago. I have made several attempts to work out a solution to this problem with chevy, to no avail. I took it to the dealer to run a diagnostic test as requested by chevy, the test showed the cluster is bad. Over the course of several conversations with chevy, I was told they are aware of an existing problem with the clusters, but are not going to do anything about it. I did a lot of research about this on the internet and have found that I am not the only one with a faulty cluster. This seems to be a common problem with the 2003 & 2004 chevy models. Chevy admitted this to me, and are fixing "some" models, but the Trailblazer is not one of them. I really don't understand! there are two class action suits, that I found on the internet, chevy is fixing the vehicles in those two states, but what about the ones of us who don't live in those states? I have not made the repairs to my vehicle, I bought a gps to keep me within the speed limit. Any help you can offer is appreciated!!! thank you for your time.
2004 chevy Trailblazer all gauges have failed. One by one, speedometer, gas, oil, temp, tack. I feel this is a safety issue that gm should address.
We have a 2004 Trailblazer lt and have issues with the speedometer not working properly. It gets stuck between 30-120mph or does not move at all. Took it to a chevy dealer a few miles from our home. They said, they have to send the instrument cluster out to get repaired/ reprogrammed and it would cost $525. I don't understand why chevy does not provided some sort of discount or recall for the repairs since it seems to be a very common issue with there Trailblazers.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact was driving at an unknown speed when the fuel gauge began to fluctuate back and forth between different readings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was advised that the instrument cluster was failing. The vehicle was not repaired. The voltage gauge and rpm gauge had since stopped functioning and the speedometer would fail intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
We purchased a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer in 2007. Beginning in 2008, our instrument cluster began to fail, starting with the speedometer. At times, the speedometer showed 15 to 20 mph slower than actual speed, resulting in unsafe and unlawful speeds. The cluster then failed in the fuel sensor and oil pressure sensor areas, and has not worked in over 2 years. When gm was contacted, they indicated they had not received any complaints about the issue. However, when looking online at forums and other resources, and talking with gm/Chevrolet dealer mechanics, this problem is widespread and common, resulting in expensive repair bills and in cases giving vehicle owners no choice but to drive an unsafe vehicle due to not having the resources to get the factory defect repaired.
