Tank Assembly problems of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer - part 2

87 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

36 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2011

Started noticing that when I would fill up, it would show that I was empty. Then after putting about 40 miles on the tank of fuel it would start showing correctly. I dealt with this for about a month and then it showed that I had a 1/4 tank of fuel but I actually ran out of gas in the middle of an intersection. After that I took it to my mechanic and it was $300 to repair.

37 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Fuel gauge shows empty, while there is still plenty of fuel in tank. When the vehicle is first started, the gauge reads correctly, but as soon as the vehicle is in motion, the gauge drops to empty. When tank is 100% full, the gauge reads correct until around 100 miles, when the gauge immediately drops to empty. Online research is showing this to be a known issue, possibly with the fuel sending unit attached to the pump.

38 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Fuel guage started malfunctioning sporadically. Would drop to empty for a while then come back up after driving a distance. Now guage is always on empty and cel always on with code p0463. (fuel level sensor circut high voltage) this seems to be a known problem with this gm platform. I am keeping track of miles per tank and refilling at 200 miles but the cel worries me because I don't know if there may be another, more serious, issue with the vehicle.

39 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Fuel gauge reads inaccurately. States more fuel than what is in tank. Can cause vehicle to stall when driving.

40 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2011

Have had multiple sensing failures with fuel gauge on this vehicle causing one time to run out of gas on major expressway. I keep record of gas purchases and try to be aware how full the tank is. This is an intermittent problem now but cannot be relayed on.

41 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

The fuel gauge on my 2007 chevy Trailblazer is malfunctioning. Although there is plenty of fuel in the tank the fuel gauge randomly falls to empty and shows a low fuel message. It is difficult to know when the vehicle will be out of fuel without trying to estimate based on mileage.

42 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2011

My 2007 trail blazer has a bad fuel gauge which has caused me to run out of gas 3 times over two years. In all of those occassions my gauge reading said I had more fuel in it. Now it will completely stop working after half a tank is used. The last incident was 2/11/2011. One of those incidents was reported to police.

43 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2011

My 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer's fuel gauge is no longer functioning properly. The vehicle has been receiving all preventive and scheduled maintenance and has approximately 64,000 miles. The problem started approximately two weeks ago (first week of February 2011) and has progressed to the point where it has completely failed. The gauge will indicate proper level when key is turned on but will drop to zero with low level light staying on almost immediately after the vehicle is started even if the fuel tank is full. This makes it very difficult for me to continue to allow my teenage daughter to use this vehicle as her primary transportation to school and work. Especially in the winter months where being stuck on the side of road in the country can be a matter of life or death. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership for estimate and the repair will reach between $600-900 since the vehicle is out of warranty. I understand from talking to professional mechanics and internet research that this problem is well documented and known to be the use of substandard parts in the fuel level sensors in the fuel tank. Even if my limited research is not conclusive, the number of incidents where this occurs seems to warrant a response from the company.

44 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

Driving to work gas gauge showed 1/4 tank of gas. Engine stalled and had to wait for 2 hours before tow truck came. Tow truck operator asked if I ran out of gas. I told him I had a quarter tank left. He suggested putting in 2 gallons and try to start, which it did. Fuel gauge started showing erratic behavior and has since stopped working entirely.

45 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2011

Fuel gauge reads empty when the tank is half full or less. It registers low fuel. I had to replace the sender float assembly to fix. Gm dealership said it was not covered by a recall and it was out of warrenty due to milage.

46 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2011

Fuel gage read 1/4 of a tank and ran out of gas on the side of the road in the winter with two small children in the car. Since the incident my fuel gage read all over the board and eventually only reads empty. I have meet many other people with the same make/model with the same issues.

47 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2011

The mentioned fuel level sensor in this vehicle (and from research other earlier models) fails or wears out prematurely. The wear could cause the fuel gauge to read empty after filling the tank and cause the service engine and low fuel lights to illuminate. Chevrolet has acknowledged this occurs in the vehicles but has not issued a recall to fix the problem. Instead they have sent a letter of acknowledgement advising the customers to have the issue repaired and they will reimburse half the cost of the repair. Not knowing when your fuel is low presents a dangerous scenario for the drivers of these vehicles. It can run out of gas while driving in a speedway / highway where lives would be at risk. Chevrolet should recall all the vehicles exhibiting this problem as soon as possible and avoid future lawsuits and or criminal charges for not addressing an issue they admit is a fault in their vehicles.

48 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

The fuel level sensor installed in model year 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. The fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle.

49 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

I own a 2007 chevy Trailblazer. For about six months now every time I fill up with fuel the gage stays on empty and the low fuel light comes on. After driving 30 to 50 miles the light goes out and the fuel gage works until the next time I fill up and the same failure repeats itself. I have not had any accidents or run out of gas because of this. However, I do not trust the gage and have gotten in the habit of filling up when the fuel level gets down to one half tank.

50 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2010

Fuel level gauge fluctuates from low fuel to accurate fuel level once actual gas level reaches approximately 1/2 tank.

51 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2010

Upon filling up the gas tank on the vehicle, the gas gage dropped to "empty". The gas gage then went to half and returned to empty several times. The gas gage finally returned to full, the correct level. However, several minutes later, while travelling over a narrow two-lane bridge, I was startled by the sound of a warning chime. While trying to identify the source of the warning I was distracted and almost caused a collision on the bridge. It turns out that the gas level had returned to the empty level even though the tank was full. The "check engine" light subsequently came on. I did some on-line research (google "trailblazer fuel defects") and found hundreds of comments from Trailblazer owners who had exactly the same problem. The year of vehicle ranges from 2003 to 2008. Many of these owners state that due to the defective gas gage they had run out of gas while in motion thereby endangering themselves and others.

52 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2010

Feul guage sensor malfunctioning. Feul guage sensor malfunctioning and will read empty after filling the tank and cause the service engine and low fuel lights to illuminate.

53 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Upon starting the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed a reading of empty. The contact refueled the vehicle but the gauge showed a full tank for a moment then dropped down to empty. The check engine light also illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The failure and current mileages were 54,000.

54 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Fuel sender fails resulting in false report by fuel gauge as empty tank. Incidences started in December 2010, 4 months after vehicle purchase, approximately 17,800 miles driven on vehicle, 5,000 by second owner. Endangers driver by possibility of becoming stranded by running out of gas. Repair, not covered by manufacturer, is prohibitively expensive, $500+, due to possible need to replace more than just sensor. Incidents occur daily, as gauge sometimes resets on start up, then fails while driving, and sometimes immediately after start up. Well documented defect of fuel system online and by repair shops, claims of no responsibility of defect by Chevrolet/gm.

55 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

The fuel tank sender stops working when the fuel level in the tank reaches half full. It occurs every time the tank reaches half full.

56 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

The fuel gauge does not read the proper level. Even if I fill the tank the gauge reads empty. Previously when the tank would reach half full the gauge would read accuratly. However; each time I filled up that level where the gauge would begin to work would decrease, and now it does not work at all. When there is approximatly 1/8th of a tank left the gauge will read irratically, sometimes saying 1/4 full or empty. Also, this fuel level sensor has triggered the check engine light to register on the dash, when diagnosed by the dealer they told me it was the fuel level sensor triggering the code and not an issue with the truck emissions.

57 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2010

When I start my vehicle, gas gauge rises to actual gas level. After 3-4 minutes of driving, gas gauge drops to empty, and remains until truck is restarted. Sometimes the gauge will rise to one-half tank, and stay as well. On one occasion, I was stranded on the interstate with my 4 year old son and my wife. The gauge was stuck a half tank, but I was actually out of gas. 4 hours later I was back home. On some level I think that constitutes a safety hazard. I called my local gm dealership and said it was most likely a fuel-sending unit inside the tank, and it was not covered by my power-train warranty. Was told it would be between $600-$900 to replace. Ridiculous!!! I have read hundreds of similar issues to the same make and model of my trail blazer. It is time for gm to allow these to be replaced under the 100,000 mile power train warranty. This may not qualify as a safety recall, but surely a defect that gm needs to address!!!.

58 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

2007 Trailblazer gas light comes on when fuel tank is full. This needs to be a recall due to fact vehicle could fail on road in freezing conditions. Lives could be in danger for faulty reading or for engine failure due to improper sensor working. Apparently this has happened to many people with even 2005-2006 models. It is not covered under warranty. There needs to be something done about this for safety of the public!!!!!!.

59 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2010

At approximately 52,000 miles my fuel gauge broke. It first began when the vehicle was at less than 1/2 tank I could see the needle drop to e in a matter of minutes. Now, it doesn't matter if the tank is full or half empty it always registers on e. The light continues to beep and now my check engine light is on! I cannot believe gm will not recall the Trailblazer due to this issue, the dealer sure don't disclose this faulty problem when they are trying to sale you the vehicle!!!.

60 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. When the contact started the vehicle, she noticed the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading. The failure progressed and currently the fuel gauge was inoperable. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated sporadically. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the fuel tank sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not aware of the defect. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

61 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2010

Fuel gage sending unit shows that the tank is empty when it is full. It will work normally between 3/4 and 1/2 full and then drop to empty and sound warning chimes as if it is out of fuel. This is a huge annoyance and it is very common. I know 4 individuals that own trail blazers and all of them have had or are having this same problem. When talking to the dealership about this problem they told me that it is the number one problem among Trailblazers.

62 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2010

After we fill the gas tank, the needle will go to 1/2 full then as we drive further the needle goes all the way down to empty and the empty light comes on.

63 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

Fuel gage reads when tank is full but as fuel is used gage will intermittently go to empty and alarm will sound. I cannot be sure how much fuel is ever in the tank. I must rely on the odometer readings to approximate the range remaining. I fear running out of gas and getting in an accident.

64 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS/lt. When the fuel tank was full the fuel gauge displayed zero and the fuel indicator bell rang indicating that the vehicle was out of fuel the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer performed a diagnostic test that did not display a failure code. When the dealer test drove the vehicle, the failure did not occur. The manufacturer advised the contact to take vehicle back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,800 and the current mileage was 40,346.

65 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

Gas gauge does not read correctly. Sometimes reads high, sometimes reads low, reads empty after filling the tank. Gauge sometimes moves noticably while standing still. Dealer replaced the sensor on the fuel level sender at a cost of $393. 39 - this fixed the problem.

66 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2010

I noticed the first time there was an issue with my gas guage when I was sitting at the bank drive thru and it dinged at me that I needed gas. I thought it odd, because I thought I had just filled up. I went to fill up and it only cost $20, so then I knew something was wrong. Gas guage stayed at 1/2 tank regardless of full or empty, then got stuck at 1/4 tank, now stays on emty at all times. I have to keep track of miles and always fill up (which is not easy if the funds are not available). I've since run out of gas 3 times. Luckily, either time, neither of my 2 small kids were in the car with me. This is very frustrating, not only running out of gas, but even more so hearing that gm is only willing to cover 1/2 of the expense, if you take your truck to an already over priced dealership.

67 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

I was at sams club filling up my vehicle when the gas gauge went to empty and the light came on. The gas gauge thereafter began fluctuating and continues to do the same. Most of the time it starts out showing an inconsistent reading then goes to empty. Fuel descending unit gone bad. An inquiry on the internet reveals a large quantity of Trailblazers have the same issues. The dealerships are also very familiar with the issue. My vehicle had 49,000 miles and some change with this first occurred. Can you imagine running out of gas in a rural area with or without kids with no help in site, or even worse in a urban high crime area passing through. Gm has failed to issue a recall for this problem despite the large quantity of vehicles exhibiting this problem. I found the average mileage was 52,000 when this occurs. This repair is rather costly requiring the gas tank to be removed. At this point I am trying to keep up with my mileage, fortunately for me I did not run out of gas when this first occurred.

68 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

Gas gauge is faulty. Does not read accurate fuel levels. When you fill the tank the check engine light turns on and then the fuel level will drop to empty and then back up to half tank.

69 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel light turned on intermittently which caused the check engine light to illuminate. The failure occurred even after the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the fuel level sensor was defective. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer. The VIN was unavailable. The current mileage was approximately 45,000. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

70 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2010

Gas gauge would not work - did not give accurate account of how much gas was in vehicle even after filling up. Gas light was on and would ding as if empty. Took car into Chevrolet dealership & it was a sensor in the gas tank. Gas tank had to be "pulled" and sensor had to be replaced. Would have cost me $800, but luckily I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the vehicle. I have seen numerous reports of this same thing happening to others with a 2007 Trailblazer - is this not a recall?.
