Failure Date: 01/07/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the alternator failed to work properly. As a result, the vehicle made loud noises. The noise occurred every time the vehicle was started for at least four months. The contact has not taken the vehicle to be inspected for the alternator failure. He was informed by another dealer that the bearings were faulty. He feels that this is a saftey issue because the alternator and battery are needed for the vehicle to operate properly. The current and failure mileages were 39,000. Updated 02-18-09 updated 02/18/09.

37 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/11/2008

My headlights and dash lights flicker while driving. Also while driving my lights will dim and the blower for heat & a/c will slow and then pick up to normal speed again. It also revs by itself, even in park and will go forward slightly when it does surge. These problems only started after the alternator was replaced. I think it is a safety hazard to have lights flickering and engine surges.

38 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

This trail blazer has been a lemon every since I bought it. First two batteries kept swelling up and smoking and then it wouldn't start. I replaced the alternator. Then the motor threw a rod. I put another motor in it. Then the check engine light came on. I took it and had it put on a machine to check it out. It cannot be checked because the machine reads that the computer is dead. It stalls every now and then and gets horrible gas mileage. I replaced the gas cap but it didn't help. Now the transmission has went out of it. Previously it automatically locked the doors when it was running locking me out. There should be a recall on all these electric problems. I do not have any money to fix these problems yet I have 16 more months to pay on this truck. I've always bought Chevrolet's but I will never buy another one and so will a lot of other people. If they can't stand behind there vehicle's their no good for anything. All these different problems started at different dates. I also had to put a new exhaust system on it. I don't know how it is still running with the computer dead.

39 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/11/2008

There were no events that led to the part failure. I own a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext and have had multiple problems with the vehicle the most recent being, having to replace the alternator and battery due to a bad/faulty diode in the alternator.

40 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/03/2008

I bought this 08 chevy Trailblazer new 9-30-08. From the date I bought it I noticed the charging hand on the instrument panel shows the battery not charging about 50% of the time, the owners manual says this is a fuel saving feature . When the battery is fully charged the alternator quits charging. After approximately 1 month of driving this veh. I noticed when it quit fully charging the power windows would not roll but 1/3rd of the way up,the veh. Can't be driven in the rain due to the wipers barely moving, the bose stereo system loses power and malfunctions, and im sure other things don't function properly, the transmission malfunctions and wont shift like it is designed to do,the miles per gallon gauge resets itself while the veh. Is moving. I have had the veh. To the local chevy dealer and they don't have a clue to why it is doing this,I think if your driving on a major highway and run into a hard rainstorm you would be lucky to get off the highway before causing a major accident due to the wipers not working properly,,I experienced the situation once but was lucky traffic was light. Am taking the veh. To another dealer this week to see if they can fix the problem. The wipers not working properly is an extremely dangerous problem.

41 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/03/2008

I have a 2005 chevy Trailblazer lt, and I have noticed this strange sound lately when I start it up and it gets louder as you drive it. My father said that it is the bearings and the alternator, so I decided to look it up on the internet and saw multiple complaints on this issue with this particular model. I was told to file a complaint on a site, and was directed by many others who have experienced this issue. I am not happy, and I still owe on this vehicle and the warranty is conveniently up just as this is happening. I want this correct, and someone contacted gm and they stated that there is an issue with the pump and the electrical, well then they need to recall this vehicle and fix it for free.

42 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

Car started making a very faint whining sound and has gotten quite loud and have had it looked at and spoke to other owners with the same problem and so far have found out that the rear bearing goes out in the alternator quite early as in my vehicle which only has 28,000 miles on it.

43 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/02/2008

I own a 2003 chevy Trailblazer and I've replaced alternator but the lights still seem to dim and flicker. This is a safety issue and must be looked at by the makers and the dealer. I recommend a recall or replacement of faulty equipment. As I look on forums this seems to be a common problem with this particular vehicle.

44 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated the voltage regulator was corroded and caused the brake light unit on the rear driver's side to also corrode. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the sockets were replaced but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer where the alternator was replaced. The failure continued. The vehicle was then taken to a third dealer where it was awaiting repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure when the contact notified them to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 6,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.

45 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Headlights dim and flicker at random times, mostly at start up. Dealer has replaced alternator twice and problem was resolved for about 2 months and has since recurred.

46 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/28/2008

I have had my 2005 trail blazer for 2 years, and have taken it in 3 times, and had the alternator replaced twice. I'll be taking it in again tomorrow, due the dimming/flashing lights, and whining noise. Same symptoms as before, alternator again I'm sure. I am hoping to sell it, and never buy chevy again. Very irritating!.

47 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/21/2008

Late evening, I was driving down the freeway in a snow storm and suddenly my engine power dropped significantly. I could not go over 10 mph and barely made it up the off ramp to be stranded 3 1/2 hours away from home. I spent a total of $700 to get the alternator and I-pulley replaced. The old part was not returned or I would have had to pay an additional $50.

48 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/03/2008

My vehicle headlights in my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, blink, flicker or flash when too much power is going in, I don't think this vehicle has a big enough alternator, but the dealer or gm will not do anything to help me, they said its normal. If its normal that the headlights flicker, I would have never bought this vehicle. It is just so frustrating to have a vehicle in a shop when you need it for day to day living. This has been going on for 8 months now. This could kill someone and according to multiple blog sites this is a problem for a lot of people.

49 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/15/2008

Alternator failed.

50 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

Since the purchase of my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer I have had problems with my lights(interior and exterior) flickering (I have noticed this problem at night). My dealership has tried many things on their own and suggestions from Chevrolet. The alternator was changed, lights switches replaced, computer reprogrammed. This problem is not being resolved by Chevrolet. This problem has some potential to cause serious problems if the events occur during night time driving.

51 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/20/2007

Both rear window regulators went out at the same time not from wear hardly used them makes to much noise. Four wheel drive differential locking hub locked in won't come out. Electrical problems with radio, dash lights, heated seats just to name a few. Idle not right stalls out while in park sometimes. Nothing fixed yet have to save money because cost to much to go to dealer,it costs a 100. 00 just to have them hook up to machine and then it says nothing is wrong but all this is wrong ,it does not compute.

52 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/19/2007

Headlights dim and flash at random times while driving under regular conditions. Battery gauge on dashboard shows varying voltages. Gm/chevy dealerships suggest replacing alternator, but that does not fix the problem.

53 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/11/2007

Bought the 2005 Trailblazer new, have taken it to have the flashing lights fixed on 3 occasions, but they could not duplicate the problem, so they could not fix the problem. Then while on a trip the switch went out, and was replaced at a dealer where the vehicle was not purchased, the lights quit flashing. Now the alternator has gone out, only 48,000 miles.

54 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/05/2007

On numerous occasions, I have had issues with the headlights dimming upon slowing from highway speeds. I was told that this was normal function, and could not be reproduced by the dealer. Today, I was informed by another dealer that the altenator bearings have gone bad, and the altenator needs to be replaced. Vehicle has 57k miles.

55 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/02/2007

My alternator went bad, having problems with my lights getting brighter for a second during acceleration and then it goes back to normal. Winding noise coming from my alternator started at 36,175 miles right after the warranty ends.

56 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

Alternator bearing started going out at 37,000 miles.

57 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/09/2007

I bought a 2005 Trailblazer used in June of 2007 with 34,000 miles. Since then I have had the rubber seal around the license plate fixed 3 times for the glue melting and running down the tailgate. The air conditioner when ran for extended trips doesn't blow like it should, the dealer supposedly fixed that twice. The whole light flickering thing is annoying and probably could be avoided with a stronger alternator. The check engine light came on for secondary air injection malfunction conveniently after the warranty has expired, its all due to a crappy check valve that is made with a metal that corrodes easily causing it to stick. I understand that problems happen but this vehicle only has 38,000 miles on it. General motors knows about the problems they just don't want to go broke fixing their mistakes. Or just do some quality control on vehicles before they are massed produced.

58 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/05/2007

For approx. 4 months I would go to get into my Trailblazer and the vehicle would be dead. Would not start unless I had it jumped. It would go 2 weeks with no problem then out of the blue, not work. I had the battery changed 2 times, alternator, starter checked with no problem. Finally after the last time, I had the alternator people come and get it and they checked it out for 2 days. The abs system is what came up. I had to have it taken to the dealer that I purchased it from (I have only had this vehicle purchased used for a year and couple of months-vehicle is only 4 years old now) and it is the abs module costing me $1150. 00 to be fixed. Dealer states that it stays on after vehicle is turned off and running my battery.

59 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

Intermittent headlight and voltage problems, the vehicle is a 2004 Trailblazer, the problem began in the fall of 2004. . . Headlights and voltage gauge would dim and drop, would continue to do this intermittently. . . Dealership replaced the alternator twice. . Also the dash has been replaced once due to the voltage spikes caused by this. . . The last time I took it in the service manager told me that gm had issued a bulletin on this saying it was " the nature of the beast" that it was caused by a secondary smog pump that was supposed to come on only when the vehicle was 1st started. . . But could also keep kicking in and out causing a severe voltage draw. . . My truck now has 50,000 miles on it, am afraid these voltage spikes will take out another dash, I feel gm has a serious defect with this and feel this a serious safety issue as the headlights all but go out at low speeds, the dealership here has done all that gm will allow them to do according to them.

60 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/03/2007

On 2 different times I have taken my 05 Trailblazer to the dealer for work to done on what we thought was the alternator. The headlamps and inside lamps will dim and the battery charge gauge will drop below the 14 amps gm call normal. I have been told that this is a normal condition. I feel it is anything but normal and it is a safety issue. People think you are bright lighting them and it is just plain hard to see at times. It seem to happen more when it is cold and damp. This is not normal, and unless gm decides to fix this problem we will not buy another gm product!.

61 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/20/2006

Dimming lights on a 2005 Trailblazer and fluctuations in electrical accessories. Took to dealer twice, second time replaced alternator, they say gm states it's normal operation and the computer is drawing power and causing dimming. Other motorists think I am flashing lights at them, I am also concerned about fire.

62 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/11/2006

Intermittent electrical problem. . . When driving, lights dim, electric gauge goes down several notches below normal reading and then up several notches past normal reading. This has been an ongoing problem, getting worse, with the latest incident having occurred today, Nov. 11, 2006.

63 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/15/2006

2006 chevy trailbazer has a bad alternator. I took the day off work to fix the vehicle. To my surprise you can't get one for this vehicle from anywhere. They are on backorder through gm. I guess I need to find a new way to work until my new one arrives.

64 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/01/2006

My headlights dim while driving ,first noticed while driving about 25 mi. From home and they would go dim and the gage would dropbelow 14 and then they would brighten up and the gage went above 14, has done this on several occasions dealer took it home over night to see what was going on and of course it didn't do it , he showed me a print out that said not to replace the alternator that there was no problem with it, it continues to do this and it seems to me that there is a problem but until they see it I'm just stuck with it , any suggestions!.

65 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/28/2005

While driving headlights dim very low to the point that you can not see. Doesn't happen every time. Dashboard lights also go very low. Vehicle taken in to dealership in April. Tech says can not duplicate problem. Car taken in again this time cd player will stop playing if volume is turned all the way down for more that 2 mins. In order to make it play again you have to eject cd and reinsert. Radio was suppose to be ordered never received it. Car taken in again this time different dealership found problem with radio and it was replaced asked for them to check headlights because problem still happens. They also cannot duplicate problem. After leaving dealership cd players stops play again. Sept 28, 2005 while at bank drive through car stalls out, able to restart car. Took vehicle to dealership told them about the stalling out, headlights, and cd player. After having my car there a week and 3 days there conclusion was that the stalling out was because the was carbon build up in throttle body this was cleaned out. My car has 19,000 miles and is a year old I don;t believe this is the problem. While there a new cd player was put in, I was told that the one that was replaced before was a refurbished one and it didn't surprise them that it didn't work. The headlights we were told that we were crazy at first and then after speaking with the service manager was told that my vehicle has California emissions which means we have a 2nd air intake on it that causes the alternator to drain causing the lights to dim. Gm has told us this is normal!!!!!! I am sorry I am not willing to put my family lives on the line because I happen to buy a new car in virginia that was made in California. I leave in a rural area not the city so if I lose my headlights then that means I can't see. This doesn't mean anything to them. We do have a meeting in Nov with the northern area manager. This is not a normal operation of a car nor should it be designed to do this.

66 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/06/2005

I have brought my vechicle to the dealership for service on three seprate ocasions for the following condition: the voltage fluctuates between 10 and 15 volts, causing the headlights and instrument panel to go dim, then bright again. The dealership was unable to diagnose or reproduce the problem. Today 04/06/2005 the dealership stated they contacted gm, and stated that this was normal. This is not normal! I have never driven a vechicle in which headlights going dim, then bright normal. It is almost as if the lights are flashing at times. The dealership stated that there are tsbs stating that this is normal. This to me creates an unsafe driving environment. . Read more...

67 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/21/2003

Our windshield wipers were inoperable. The wiper switch was turned on with absolutely no response from the wipers. The dealership has replaced it. However, other electrical problems keep occurring. For example, our air conditioning switch malfunctioned, the onstar did not send tracking information properly, the alternator needed to be replaced, and the fan for the heater would not work at any speed except low. We have only had this vehicle since August. I am thinking that this in an electrical problem instead of each individual piece being faulty. Please let us know if you are hearing more of the same types of information.
