Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have reported 65 problems related to wiring (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Oil pressure gauge drops to zero causing "check gauges" light to come on and engine to stall when the a/c is running and am stopped at a light in the city. This only occurs once during a trip or once a month. Understand that Trailblazers have a history of gauge problems and electrical issues. Chevrolet needs to issue a recall for electrical wiring/gauges.

The contact owned a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. After plugging in a tire inflator into the cigarette lighter port, the vehicle filled with black smoke. In addition, the contact smelled a burning odor. The contact immediately removed the tire inflator from the port and shut the engine off which stopped the vehicle from smoking. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuse box, wiring harness, and various other internal components melted. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 155,000.
I parked the car in my driveway and the passenger side mirror started clicking. The mirror was attempting to rotate to the extreme car side of the mirror. Using the remote mirror control had no effect. The car was turned off and the mirror motor continued to try to move the mirror past the limit. After several minutes, the clicking stopped and there was an odor of plastic burning. After the clicking stopped, neither mirror moved. The local mechanic said the wiring to the motor had burned and shorted the mechanism. I was lucky that there was no damage to the interior of the door. Has this malfunction been a problem with the Trailblazers?.
The wiring connecting the blower motor to the resistor under the glove box has melted the connection between the two resulting in smoke and toxic fumes from burning wires while vehicle was in operation with a/c operating on high. Shutting the vehicle off stopped any further damage, I have googled this issue and appears as though its a known problem without gm acknowledging the issue and doing any thing to remedy the issue, according to complaints filed with carcomplaints. Every time that I stop at a stoplight and start to go, the oil pressure drops to zero, the check gauges light comes on and message says oil pressure low and it cause the vehicle to act up and drive extremely slow, sometimes causing it to shut off or go into shut down mode. I googled this issue to try to figure out the problem that causes this and seen that several people have this issue with the Trailblazers. I spoke with a gm certified mechanic and he told me that this is a very common issue with the Trailblazer and said its either faulty wiring or oil sending unit. This issue is very dangerous to have happen and could (and probably has) cause an accident or someone to be stranded. With so many people having this issue, there is no way its just a coincidence. Whatever the problem is there should be a recall for gm. I hope this issue is thoroughly investigated and something is done to fix the problem. Thanks.

While driving I noticed a burning smell outside of my vehicle but assumed it was coming from the area around me not my car. When I got to my destination I noticed smoke coming from under the left side of the hood and above the drivers side tire. I raised my hood and noticed smoke coming from around my fuse box. I had the car towed and have been told by my mechanic my fuse box and wiring harness burned. He also stated there could be other damaged related to this fire. The mechanic also asked if I had problems out of my headlights because the problem seemed to have started with the headlights. I have researched this since being given this information and electrical problems seem have been a problem with Trailblazers. I found several instances on this site and also online related to electrical problems on the Trailblazers. Complaint #10487846 is identical to mine and its ashame nothing gets done about these mechanical failures until there is a tragedy.

The headlight wiring inside of the lens assembly over heats and melts the electrical connector going to the bulb and the insulation on the wiring. This has happened to both headlights on more than one occasion. Had to go and have the electrical wiring plus connector replaced.

The lights melt the harnesses in the front lights frequently. More than 2 times a year the tail light neef constant replacement from faulty wiring. The wires are not big enougb to handle the load. It happens at any time it wants doesnt matter if its sitting in park or driving.
I got into my vehicle Saturday (1-19-2013) to drive into town to do some errands. I tried to put down my driver side window and the switch would not work. I got into town and went to the store. Upon leaving the store I tried my window again and it went down 1/4 of the way and stopped. Now it is stuck 1/4 of the way down. On occasion I have smelled something that smelled like wiring getting hot but could never pinpoint the cause.
Recall for faulty fuse or connection in the driver's side door that could malfunction if the wiring became wet and cause an electrical problem. I was notified by regular mail from Chevrolet in or around 2013. In approximately 2015, there was a short in a fuse in the driver's side door after a rainstorm. The power window malfunctioned and did not work. The following morning the window functioned normally again. I have had no trouble with the window or the door since that time.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the headlights did not automatically turn off when he exited the vehicle and smoke was emitted from under the hood. Upon inspection, it was found that the fuse box was smoking and the wiring harness had burned. The vehicle was towed to a private mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure and current mileage was 169,000.
Within the past 6 months, various electrical and fuel problems have emerged: the fuel gauge no longer functions at all (it always shows "empty"); the a/c works intermittently; the rear a/c and heater do not function regularly; the service engine light is always lit; odd and random issues with the stereo system occur (stations & settings randomly changing on their own, powering on/off by itself, not powering on/off as it should, & only one speaker is working at the moment); the key not releasing from the ignition; engine not turning over to start; battery dying without reason; power steering failure; alt. Gauge dropping; reduced engine power while on the highway (suddenly limiting speed to 20 mph or less); rear wiper turning on by itself; power seat malfunctioning; rough engine idle; entire instrument panel lighting up; running out of fuel while the gauge indicates that there is ample fuel in the tank; brake lamps not functioning; reduced gas mileage. On 02/25/2013, the controls on the driver's side doors stopped working; the windows will not operate or lock/unlock, the exterior mirrors will not adjust, and the locking mechanism will not work. I have brought the vehicle to the dealership for diagnostic testing at least a half dozen times, and each time no problems were detected, no explanations given, and no remedies suggested! from what I've gathered, there were recalls issued for electrical/wiring problems as well as fuel gauge problems, yet I have never received notice of any such recalls from gm!.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, there was a smoke smell coming from the driver¿s door. The contact noticed smoke coming from inside the main switch door panel. After opening the main switch door panel, the contact noticed that all of the switches were melted inside of the door. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000.
Power windows were rolled up and key off and vehicle unattended and locked. Later in afternoon after it rained it was reported the drivers window was down. After checking on the vehicle the window had rolled itself down sometime while in at work. The drivers window switch would not operate. After getting estimate at gm dealer(700+) and body shop(350 plus programming at gm dealer), they were able to jump motor to roll up window and disable switch. Harness and switch were starting to melt and deform wire insulation at drivers window switch but did not catch on fire or melt to bare wiring.
Left front window went to the down position by itself, while unattended, and burned the window switch/module, burned wiring.
Got into vehicle . Noticed a burnt smell and it would not start. Had power to most things. Then I noticed the burnt switch. Pulled switch out and it was melted along with wiring harness. While looking online for a new switch a wiring harness I came to find out this is a recurring problem with the 06 and 07 models, and yet no recall on this yet. This is the 2nd issue with electrical devices on this vehicle. My flasher control box burnt up last year while I was driving.
I woke up one morning to a smoky garage and noticed my driver door module had caught on fire, luckily the whole truck did not catch on fire in my garage while my family and I were inside our home sleeping. I can no longer control the power windows and locks in my truck. I contacted my local chevy dealer and they tried charging me nearly $1000. 00 for a module and door panel replacement and notified me there were no such recalls on my vehicle at this time. This is not the first incident I also had another fire while at a drive through window, the wiring to the cigarette lighters inside my vehicle caught on fire a few weeks after the door again the chevy dealer said there are no recalls and I would have to pay out of pocket. So many what if questions come to mind. This is not the only Trailblazer I have known or read upon to have electrical issues or even fire damage. Gm definitely needs to take responsibility before there is harm to anyone due to these unknown fires.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the instrument panel gauges and warning lamps stopped working sporadically. The contact mentioned that the door panel wiring was melted. As a result, she was unable to unlock the doors or open the windows. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 102,715. . . . . Updated 06/18/12.
As you can see from below the complaint, seems I got a call from nikki at gm or chevy and they stated I need to bring vehicle in, pay for the diagnostic and then maybe they can decide on what to do, I believe this issue has gone on for 5 years now and they should be checking to see what the issue is. . . Could be faulty wiring, which can lead to a fire, safety issue, could be a false warning or worse a real warning, as you can see in the link I enclosed to them, many people paying big dollars to not have this issue resolved, how long does this go on, I am hoping you guys can step in for us and hopefully light a fire and get gm and chevy to finally look into this matter. . The fan on my Trailblazer quit working on my a/c completely. Took to the dealer & it started working again without any repair. Then fan setting #5 quit working & I took to dealer again. They stated it was the blower motor resistor. Picked up from dealer without replacing anything & then fan quit working all together. Replaced blower motor resistor & it still didn't work. Wiggled the 7-wire wiring harness & it began to work. Waiting til it fails completely to replace. There have been many Trailblazers that have had this exact problem. According to the reports, my harness will melt & then I will have to replace it and/or eventually wiggling it will not work, not to mention its very inconvenient to get into that area of the car on a regular basis!!!.
The wiring harness to the heater blower motor melts through. This is the second time we have replaced ours.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the headlights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring was burned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. Updated 5/15/cn updated 05/26/jb.
Fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, and speedometer completely stopped working. I also had to replace the ac/heater system because of the wiring harness. I had to fix things twice for a cost of over $600 in 8 months! GMC really needs to recall these things because so many vehicles have had problems. Every complaint on here is the same! recall it now! it is not our fault. . . It's yours so fix it!.
Chevy 2002 tb lt/4wd - multiple electrical problems since purchased (used 3/2010). Started with rear ww non-function which chevy dealer charged $1500 to repair, claiming it was bad body wiring harness and it was not an uncommon problem but chevy would not take any responsibility. After repair, other electrical issues have popped up from things as simple as outdoor temperature gauge not working, passenger window won't roll up/down (though motor is fine) as well as pass electric doorlock and mirror nonfunctioning. Larger occuring issues which could effect safety include the vehicle randomly deciding to change from 2wd/a4wd/4wdh4wdl whenever it wants to under various weather/road conditions (including perfect weather and road surface) and occasional random ignition system failure. Otherwise great vehicle with seemingly normal wear and tear problems but Chevrolet's refusal to acknowledge responsibility and provide repair is disgraceful, irresposible and dangerous.
I currently own a 2005 chevy Trailblazer. Over the past year I have a variety electrical problems with my blazer. In the January of 2010 I had to replaced by ac / heater as it simply went out. When the vehicle was fixed a certified mechanic he showed us the wiring harness that had simply malfunctioned and melted all of the wires together. Now in the past three months my gas gauge has stopped working, indicating that it is low on fuel or empty and my speedometer is no longer functioning. I am very worried about the electrical problems and the risk of a potential hazards to myself and my family.
Driving about 30 mph, smelled burning plastic?, smoke comes from drivers door, now windows not working, automatic door locks not working, gas gauge not working. Told master window switch and wiring in door needs replacing due to melting.
A/c resistor and wiring harness melted.
A/c wiring burnt. Fan blower replaced 13 may 09, didn't work on any speed. Turned in to get fixed at castrol car care center, hinesville, GA. Two days later not working, so returned. Wires fried at pig tail. All parts were factory recommended.
Speedometer quit working during a cold rainy spell in January 2009. As the weather warmed, the speedometer starting working but quickly malfunctioned again. Now the speedometer does not work at all and stays at 120 consistently. I have the vehicle speed sensor replaced in Feb. 2009, but it did not correct the problem. I have had all fuses and wiring checked by an ase certified mechanic and he has come to the conclusion it could be the instrument cluster. I have researched on the internet that this seems to be a problem for Chevrolet Trailblazers.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the key fob sensor failed to open the power doors. This presents a hazard because there is no manual key entry for the doors. The failure occurs in cold weather conditions. The dealer stated that the repair was under warranty and will be repaired. They will replace the sensor and check the wiring in the vehicle. The failure mileage was 39,200 and current mileage was 39,620. Updated 03/09/09. The rear wiper was inopertive. Updated 03/12/09.
I started to lose the high speeds on the fan blower. In checking the internet I found this is a common problem for g. M. The problem is the blower motor resistor. When I went to replace this part I found that the whole wiring harness had been burnt to. It got so hot that it melted everything. The fuse for this did not even blow. This could have set the truck on fire. It is funny how the parts to fix this has much thicker wire. The parts in total was around $118. Thanks to a friend I had no labor cost. If I would of taken it to a g. M. Dealer for sure they would of wanted over $300. G. M. Knows they have a problem and are doing nothing about it. I feel this is a serious matter as it could of set the truck on fire.
