Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have reported 65 problems related to wiring (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
All within the last few months I have had to replace the complete drivers side low beam headlight and electrical pigtail because it caused an electrical short that burnt the wires. A few weeks later driver's side rear stop light quit working, I had to replace the bulb, next, the blower motor won't work on 5. . . And it won't transfer from defrost to vents. . . So, I am currently replacing the blower motor resistor and the red wire is fried because it appears not to have been "pushed" all the way in from the factory, (I have taken a picture of it)and now I have to "replace" the entire wiring harness. . . I'm really starting to hate chevy. . . Especially when I browsed through all the complaints. . . Is there ever any resolve? I think most of the issues I /we have are all safety issues. . . Would you handle things differently on your end if someone you know and love was in this type situation where they were concerned for their safety as well as the public's safety!!!!.

While driving above 30mph, if take foot off accelerator, headlights will dim to almost no light as will the dash lights, on off, on off, when press on the accelerator, lights will go on normally with same brightness. Dome light button to left of steering wheel will work once every 50 tries, lights on left side of radio do not work, cd player will not take cds. I am unable to drive my vehicle at night, it has been to a certified Chevrolet dealership twice now, they have stated that everything is running correctly and that they cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle. The speedometer will read 0 (no matter how fast I'm going) which is apparently a known problem with chevy vehicles, but they are not willing to fix it in the Trailblazer.

Window switch panel on drivers door caught fire overnight while parked in garage. No problems before this event. Fuse blew stopping the electric current and the fire burnt out on its own. I discovered the damage in the morning as I was getting in the vehicle to drive to work.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The dashboard panel illuminated intermittently. The failure prevented the dashboard from displaying the speedometer and tachometer. Occasionally, the tachometer and speedometer displayed incorrect speeds. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed an instrument panel cluster, and mentioned recall # 03v096000 for the electrical system: wiring: interior/under dash. Although this vehicle was excluded from the recall, the contact did not feel obligated to pay for the repairs since general motors was aware of the recall. The current mileage was 72,449 , and failure mileage was 71,000.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the electrical system failed at least three times in the front passenger seat. Repairs were made under warranty; however, the last failure was the contact's liability. On a separate occasion, she heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The manufacturer stated that there was a pinched wire issue with that particular year, make, and model vehicle that could affect other electrical components. The dealer made repairs, but the failure recurred within 48 hours. The dealer found wiring in a different area that failed and subsequently caused the failure of the front passenger seat. In addition, the exterior lights flickered intermittently, but the mechanic stated that the wiring would not cause that particular failure. The VIN was provided, but was not accepted by the system. The current and failure mileages were less than 43,000.
2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer left low beam bulb stopped functioning. When I replaced it I found that the connector was black and melted. The replacement connector was significantly more robust.
: the contact stated the instrument panel was inoperable. There was a NHTSA recall, #03v096000, regarding the electrical; wiring; interior/under dash. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
About a month ago, turned vehicle off for about 3 minutes, when returning to the car and restarting, noticed the radio did not come on, the clock did not illuminate. After arriving to destination, turned the vehicle off and the radio and clock began working again, but the clock had reset itself(like the battery had been disconnected). Occasionally, when turning on the turn signal-it doesn't blink, just stays lit up. I have checked for blown bulbs-they all are working properly. The radio station id (on the screen) seems to work occasionally. Last night, when the radio was on preset 6 (105. 9) fm100 showed on the screen.

On 8/1/06 I was awaken by a neighbor at 1 am saying my car was on fire. The fire department was called but the entire interior was destroyed. The fire department said it had to have been an electrical malfunction. The vehicle had been parked since 8 pm that night and it was locked. There was no sign of forced entry and no sign of any other reason for the fire. The car was purchased new in 10/04 and had less than 30,000 miles on it. I used the roadside warranty to have it towed to a dealer but the dealer refused to have anything to do with it. It took two weeks for gm to send a fire investigator out and their investigator said he couldn't determine the cause of the fire. I filed a complaint with the vermont state attorney's office but gm did not respond to the complaint. I had electrical repairs done just a few months after purchasing the vehicle too and the stereo system had stopped working just a month before the fire. The car is still sitting at the dealership. I did not have collision insurance because the car was paid in full and my current finances did not allow me to maintain anything more than liability insurance. So now I have no vehicle and this is tough with 3 young children. Gm refuses to honor their warranty and insists that this model vehicle doesn't have electrical issues. It's time someone made gm honor the warranty they charge for when you purchase a new vehicle.
I was going down the highway. I stopped at a gas station for a cup of coffee with my sister and 3 year old daughter. When I went to put my daughter in the car I noticed smoke coming up from under the plastic part in the back seat on the door part. I saw something spark and took the casing off and then it sparked again and it flamed some everytime I blow it out it would spark again. I got the wires off the metal from the door and the one wire came apart. The plastic that is covering the wires was melted off and the tape that was over that was also melted off. I took it to the dealer in nazareth PA to get it looked at. They had to replace 4 wires and 3 fuses. It cost me $100. 00 to fix. Gm called me and said there was nothing they could do because I already had it fixed and that they said it was not that serious. I told him that if I didn't go get coffee and didn't notice the smoke it could have been worse then it was and that my 3 year old daughter was in the back seat. He said he was sorry but there was nothing that he could do and he was glad no one was hurt. The person that I talked to was joe garcia # 8667905700 ext. 21260 case # 1-415496321. It is not about the money having it fixed it was the point that they said it was nothing.
I own a chevy Trailblazer LS 2003 and recently my dim headlights have been going out. I have replaced numerous bulb in the last 2 months and recently I have noticed that the headlight harness wiring has been shorted out and fried. The odd thing is that both dim headlight harness are fried. I maintain my vehicle fairly well and try to keep things in working order. I called the chevy dealer and they said they have not had any complaints or recall of the harness. Two years ago I had a similar problem with the brake light system and finally after replacing a huge number of bulbs, the chevy company recalled the mother boards on the tail lights. With the dim lights going out when ever they want, puts the driver and other drivers at risk. An example of this is on Saturday night on my way home at 8:30pm, I noticed that I did not have any dim lights. I was not in a position to get them fixed so I had to drive to my house (which-thank god was close) with my bright lights. This puts the oncoming drivers at risk of blinding and the driver is put in a awkward position for lights.
I bought vehicle in October 2003. It is a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. In the months following I began having electrical problems . Check engine light would flash on and then went off again. The first time it happened car stalled as well. I would bring it in to the dealership and they would say that they could not duplicate the problem, and they hooked up to the computer and didn't find any problems. I also had my headlights flicker when accelerating and decelerating. I have had numerous problems with my blinkers. I have had the tail light assemblies replaced twice. I recently took it again because my left blinker would flash much faster when I touched the brake. Also, if I just touched the brake the right blinker light on my console would illuminate. Also, it looked as if I had my lights on for reversing while I was driving, which was extremely unsafe as other drivers thought I was reversing when I was going forward. I have had 4wd light come on and then turn off again later. I have had my main computer replaced twice and my flasher computer replaced once. I had to have my keys reprogrammed twice and they finally found out today I had faulty electrical wiring which was supposedly causing the trouble with the brakes and flashers. I have brought it in for this problem 3 times in the last couple weeks. I also have a problem with the gas tank overflowing everything I fill up no matter what I do and I am not trying to "top off". Also, I have had several problems with my seat belts and have them replaced as well. They would lock and I would be unable to get it one to drive the car safely. I had to drive my car to the dealership with no seat belt. Overall, these problems amount to a poorly made very expensive car that leaves me feeling unsafe in my car. Please make Chevrolet listen to its consumers and pay restitution. We were all lied to by the car manufacturer, who had to have known it was producing an inferior product.
I have a 2002 chevy Trailblazer. My inside lights have stopped working and I assumed that is was due to a blown fuse. I took it to the chevy dealer ship and they stated that I may have a wiring problem. The wire the connects to my headlight burns out easily and my bulbs for my taillight has to be replaced often. Can you please assist. I have to replace the head light wiring several time and have to replace the tail light bulbs. The problem started several years ago. The last time that I had to replace a part was December of 2009.
There has not been an accident yet, just one looking for a place to happen. My vehicle I believe has an electrical problem. Which in turn affect all functions of the vehicle, safety being one. I have had (2) fan switches go bad (2) crankshaft sensors go bad. (1) cruise control malfunction. (1) turn signal relay (1) radio console replaced for overheating (1) headlights when below 32 degrees flucuate in brightness till vehicle warms up. Dealer stated this is normal operation. Ha,ha, and transmission shifting problems (1)they reprogramed computer to solve, next some solinoid replaced and now the problem is back. I have a family of 6 that I have in the vehicle 90 % of time. I now have concerns that the wiring must have a short somewhere. Which potentially could cause a fire, or an accident due to what happens when the headlights go out or antilock brake system fails or taillights, etc. Gm refuses to replace wiring in vehicle. Gm rep told me to contact whoever I wanted to. They are not going to stand behind fixing the problem. Just keep replacing the electrical items as they go bad.
Shortly after I purchased a 2004 chevy Trailblazer I began to have problems with a loud vibration from the undercarriage. It has been to the shop numerous times but is still not fixed. Recently the vehicle began stalling out at any given time. Dealer could not replicate. Still does it!!! around the same time my transmission would slip. Dealer could not replicate. Still does it!!! now I am feeling a lot of vibration in the steering wheel when I turn. Talked to other tb owners and I thinking I will need to replace the struts. What next!!.
The radio randomly changes station while driving, sometimes repeatedly. Often it appears that this is related to turning as if something in the steering column is affecting this. This function is distracting to the driver.
Two years ago the liftgate when closing would not lock and remote lock key fob failed to work. Dashlight indicated that tailgate was ajar and dome lights remained on. In the last year the controls on the driver' s door quit working. The power locks, windows, and side mirror controls did not work. Rear defroster will not work. No parts have been replaced because dealerships will not do it for free. I could not afford to fix this problem. Very frustrating. . . . . First new vehicle, and it will be my one and only Chevrolet. I will no longer purchase from gm due to their lack of willingness to fix a problem that they were aware existed in many vehicles.
The consumer's 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer caught on fire two hours after the vehicle was parked. The consumer had complained about the steering wheel and the buttons being hot. The fire started in the front of the vehicle. The consumer believed that there was a wiring problem in the steering wheel where the cruise control, radio and other buttons were.
There has been an intermittent problem with the instrument panel not working. When vehilce is on the panel guages have no reading - show there is no fuel, battery is dead, seat belt is not fastened (when it is hooked up) parking brake is on (when it is not engaged) oil needs replaced light stays on for prolonged period, gear shift indicated bar does not show up to tell driver what gear vehicle is in. My vehicle has been to the service department three times. It is there right now. First service call - the remote start was disconnected to see if that was the problem - problem did not occur for again for approximately a week and half. Remove start was hooked back up and new starter put in that was on 11/ 23 problem with panel going out occured again on 11/25 . Taken back to service on 11/29 still have not located the problem. Original service call was on 11/3.
2002 Trailblazer acted like transmission going out, took to dealer they upgraded computer. Front right low beam wired burned and melted, took to dealer they wanted to charge 250. 00 plus labor for light assembly when all it needed was a piggy plug, bought plug at napa and fixed myself. Never have had two back lights working at same time. . . Cant take to dealer to get the recall work because it seems that these vehicles are using a "weak" oil pump and my Trailblazer has been in shop for last month or more waiting to be fixed. The weak oil pump caused damage to rod bearings, main bearings, and crankshaft. Gm says out of warranty and my customer service specialist said "I'm sorry" about 10 times but she was still closing my folder and marking dissatisfied. She can't help me because I'm out of warranty. I hate this vehicle. I have found quite a few recalls but can't do most because its in the shop. I never got any recall notices.
Consumer states that on six different occasions vehicle's brake system light came on and the vehicle shut down . Service department told him 4-5 different reasons for this, I. E. The tailgate module or vehicle speed module. They have a reading on the computer and they weren't sure which it was. Consumer has to wait approximately 10-15 minutes for vehicle to cool down and restart. Consumer took vehicle to dealer for this problem on July 9, 2004, August 26, 2004, and September 28,2004. Happened again on may 27, 2005, and June 2, 2005, and is currently at dealer for the same problem.
The vehicle stalled without warning. When the incident occured the vehicle lost power steering and brakes. The vehicle would restart after sitting for 5 minutes. The dealership has replaced the ignition and the ground wire. They also upgraded the computer. The problem hasn't recurred since the ground wire was replaced.
Right low beam headlight shorted and brief fire within headlamp.
We have been having problems with the brake lights not working on our 2002 chevy trail blazer. We have been told from the dealership that we bought our vehicle from that there is no recall on this issue and that they are aware of problems with other Trailblazers with the same problem. We have been told that we have to buy new plates that hold the tail lights that put out lower power to the bulbs. The current plates that hold the brake lights constantly burn the cotacts in the bulbs. I have been told by the dealership that the new bulb holder plates are $70. 00 each plus the labor. To me having no brake lights is a major safety hazard and you usually do not know when they are out unless you are notified by someone or you are pulled over by the police. We have also had similiar problems with the headlights but they last about a year before they need replaced. So much for quality in our craftsman ship for our american made vehicles.
The vehicle repeatedly switches into a 4 wheel drive (4wd) and 4wd modes on its own during normal 2wd operation. The dealer claims that the onboard computer recorded no such occurrences, and therefore is ignoring the problem. Numerous similar complaints filed on this NHTSA web site indicate that this is a widespread problem with the Trailblazer which mere replacement of the 2wd/4wd switcher module will not remedy. This fact--taken along with frequently burning out bulbs (running lights as well as brake lights)--suggest that a possible larger yet more fundamental electrical wiring problem is what's plaguing an otherwise excellent vehicle. This is truly a shame.
On 7/26/2003, the owner heard the motor running while the vehicle was off. The owner disconnected the battery to stop the motor from running. This caused the owner to manually lock the doors but the hatch would not lock manually. On 7/31/2003, the vehicle was taken to the dealer who found a short in a wire under the hood and corrected the problem. Please provide details. Consumer stated there is no way to open the rear hatch if there is an electrical failure. There is no mechanical device to lock or unlock the hatch door. This could be a significant safety hazard.
Vehicle's dash gauges came on and speedometer started fluctuating after 35 miles driving and vehicle stalled out, not being able to restart. Computer was replaced by dealer. Problem arose again about a week later. Gm had dealer replace another part in I believe the ignition key area. Check engine light came on again in a couple weeks and vehicle would not start for dealer after it was driven there. Dealer found wire connection in wiring harness to computer was not making continuous contact at a connection. Also dealer had to replace a switch when the a/c would work intermittently. Luckily I have a good efficient dealer and service department who cares about their customers.
2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Numerous problems associated with car. Windows don't come down, doors don't unlock, and other issues. The consumer stated when he turned the key in the ignition, the windows would not roll down, unless it was done manually. There was a locking and unlocking sound coming from the doors. The consumer was informed there was an issue with the wiring inside the doors. Also, the check engine light illuminated due to a small evap leak and after market fuel cap. The windshield wipers were inoperative, the instrument panel lights were flicking on and off, the inside dome light would not come on. Updated 04/13/15. Updated 07/20/15.
There is a malfunction in electricial system wiring causing all back lights to go out without wear. . Problem happened numerous times. Dealership replaced fuses, wiring, etc. . Problem still occurring.
I have a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer and the electric mirrors are erratic - they won't hold their memory. I understand this is a big problem with Trailblazers. When you start car you do think to check mirrors everytime and it can be dangerous when you go to change lanes and realize that the mirrors have lots their memory. I have almost had numerous accidents due to this defect. I feel it should be a recall for Trailblazers as this problem has been reported by a significant amount of trailbazer owners.
