5 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

I have a 2002 Trailblazer that is currently getting it's 3rd transmission installed due to failure. The first one was replaced in 2005 at 48,000 miles. I was told by gm it was replaced with a new one, which I understand has a 100,000 mile warrenty. I am now having another one put in after 80. ,000 miles being put on the new one at a cost of $3000. When I contacted gm regarding this I was told: "at some point the customer has to take responsibility for their own vehicle, gm is not going to assist you with this issue". This will ablsolutely be the last gm product I own.

7 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/19/2010

About 10 miles outside of dallas my check engine light came on but no initial problems. Later that night while driving on the interstate the car would not go faster than 30mph. I returned home that night and left it parked. The next day took it to autozone and the guy did an engine check stating that my transmission has gone out and that it was low on fluids. I added 3 quarts of transmission fluid which seemed to help a little bit, but I do not feel comfortable enough making an 8 hr trip back home.

In order to turn off the vehicle she had to apply the parking brake. She attempted to restart the vehicle but it would not start. The failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. 10 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

I own a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext which has been impeccably maintained by me. Prior to going on a vacation I brought the truck into my mechanic for an inspection as usual and he informed me the transmission fuel lines had to be replaced due to excessive corrosion. He also advised me that this was a common problem with this model which prompted Chevrolet to change the design. He checked to see if it was on a recall list but was not. I checked the NHTSA site and have noticed numerous complaints on this same issue. Why has this not been addressed with gm and placed on a recall list for replacement by a dealership?.

11 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/08/2010

Driving at posted 55 mph our 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with 50,000 miles on it started to blow smoke behind it. Before we could pull off the road safely, the engine rpm went crazy and the transmission stopped working. It was later found that the transmission cooler line failed due to corrosion and sprayed oil on the exhaust system resonator. On careful inspection, the trans cooler lines are corroded in many places. The lines are so close to the exhaust system that an insulation material had been placed over the lines and may have contributed to holding moisture and accelerating the rust through. I am waiting for new lines and do not know if the transmission is destroyed.

The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 105,570 and the current mileage was 105,580.

14 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

15 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/13/2010

While on the highway to florida from ohio I felt a budge and then heard the vehicle sound like it was down shifting and the rpms were high. I pulled off the side of the highway and headed back home doing 40 mph since the vehicle would not shift past 2nd gear. Also the vehicle shifted gears harshly. Took the vehicle to the dealership and they had informed me that I needed a new transmission. I have read hundreds of other complaints on the this same subject. I am assuming that most people don't know where to report such incidents.

16 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

I have an 02 chevy Trailblazer. I purchased it in 08. The 4 wheel drive is defective. I took it to the dealership 3 months after I bought it to report that the 4 wheel drive indicator light was switching around on its own and causing the truck to put itself in 4wd while I was driving. I was told that it wasn't a problem and the 4wd box needed to be reset but it was nothing that would cause any problems. Today while driving to work I was almost in a wreck because the truck jumped from 2wd to 4wd by itself and my truck started jerking and slowed down (on the highway). After doing some research it seems that a lot of people (especially those with the 02) have this same problem. They need to do a recall and fix the problem before people get hurt. I'm sure I'm not the only person to report this problem. Please help us. If you have time please at least read through the thread on the first link. This is not an isolated incident. . Read more...

19 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/14/2010

Went to dealer for vehicle inspection and oil change on my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Was told that the sensors are indicating that there is moisture getting into my transmission due to a issue with the dip stick not sealing properly. Was told it would cost $192. 00 (parts and labor) to repair. That it is not covered under warranty. However, I was told that if my transmission did go out due to this problem, and my vehicle was still under the warranty, that the warranty would cover a new transmission. Doesn't make sense that if there is a defect in such a minor part as the dip stick seal, why the warranty wouldn't cover the repair.

24 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Last summer, my vehicle started stumbling at speeds greater than 50mph on the highway. I had my vehicle serviced several times, without the issue being resolved. I have had the throttle body replaced, tune-up, map sensor, air intake sensor, fuel system cleaned, fan clutch replaced, still had the stumbling problem. Approximately 2 weeks ago I was driving home on the highway, when I heard the engine rev up very high, but I wasn't going any faster. I then pressed on the gas, the engine raced, but I was just coasting. I was able to coast off the highway to the median, thank god nobody was behind me. I also thank god I didn't have my family with me. The mechanic said, that one of the gears inside, the tranny was broken, and the pump had shattered. I would hate to see this happen to someone, and they can not get out of the way, someone could get killed.

After reading about other complaints with people having the same problem I would have to say it is the sun gear. I'm very unhappy to hear that gm doesn't admit to having a problem with this transmission, but it is obvious to me that there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

29 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/08/2009

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While shifting the vehicle into park, the gear selector displayed drive. While taking his foot off of the brake pedal, the vehicle lurched forward. He speculated that the retainer clip, that holds the shifter cable to the gear selector arm on the transmission, had fractured. He was in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer. The failure mileage was 75,100. Updated 12/01/09 the transmission cable linkage failed. The consumer pulled to a stop, applied the brake and moved the shifter to park. When he removed his foot from the brake, the vehicle lurched forward. He immediately applied the brake again, turned off the engine and set the parking brake. He verified that the shifter was in park. He also observed the transmission indicator on the instrument panel indicators that the vehicle was still in drive. He attempted to move the shifter from the park position, but the safety interlocks would not allow the shifter to be moved, even after depressing the brake pedal. When he looked under the vehicle and checked the linkage he saw the shifter cable was no longer attached to the transmission range selector lever. There was a white nylon bushing at the end of the shifter that holds the cable end on the selector lever. One side of the bushing had broken off. The consumer was able to make a temporary repair by manually moving the transmission range selector lever to the park position and placing the linkage cable end back onto the end of the selector level. Updated 12/01/09.

Failure Date: 09/30/2009

2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS transmission cooler lines rusted through causing transmission to burn up 3rd and 4th gears of automatic transmission. It appears that by reading the other two submissions that general motors has a problem and to where they located the cooler lines to cause rust through. I did have some brake work that I believe caused the rusted cooler lines to be jarred enough for the lines to be sped up to the rupture point.
