Transmission hard shifting, slow torque converter clutch lock up and hard lock up when it does. Going down a hill the torque converter will unlock when letting off the gas and when starting up another hill the engine will speed up and then it will re-lock with a jerk. Lower gear shifts hard sometimes and sometimes ok.

Pulling out on the road before oncomiing traffic and accelerated normal. The vehicle traveled about 10 to 20 yds when the engine rpm drasticly increased like the vehicle went into neutral, but the transmission was in d. It happened so quickly and before I could let my foot off the accelerator a very loud bang occurred in the driveline. I immediately let off the accelerator and began pulling out of the right lane of traffic on to the shoulder out of traffic. I attempted to increase acceleration with the vehicle in d and the rpm iincreased and no forward motion, shifted to 3 and tried again (nothing), shifted to 2 and then the transmision engaged and forward motion was established. Took vehicle to gm dealer and results were a broken sprag in the transmission. Gm rebuilt transmission to repair. Discussed with serv mgr the problem and he indicated that they see these sprags break quite often in this type of transmission. Doing further research after that I discovered that there are numerous occations of this vehicle with drive train problems in the transmission all throughout the veh mileage range from 4, 5000, 10000, and 34000 . Vehicle service up to date by my dealership and has been driven under normal conditions. The engine is a 6. 0 liter 395 hp, 400 ft\lb torque. I also noticed where gm first produced this vehicle with a lighter duty transmission 4l60-e, then upgraded to a 4l70-e and larger torque converter to withstand the power developed by the 6. 0 liter engine. Ther gm serv. Mgr indicated my vehicle had the 4l70-e transmission when I called him to discuss. There is still an issue with this particular circumstance with the heavier transmission not handllng the power developed. It is a safety hazard if quick acceleration was needed to cross an intersection or avoid oncoming traffic. Fortunately I wasnt crossing traffic and turning from the parking lot onto the road able to avoid oncoming traffic avoiding a serious accident. Trailblazer.

I have a 2002 chevy Trailblazer with 80,000 miles on it. To make a long story short I have had the transmission serviced per the manufactures recommendations. My dealership has record of this. We have had no problems with the vehicle transmission up until 26 Nov 2008. Without warning the transmission made a loud bang and I lost overdrive. I also lost reverse gear after getting the vehicle to a parking lot. The transmission shop (aamco) is charging me 2095. 00 to rebuild it. This includes a new torque converter. This is ridiculous for a vehicle with only 80,000 miles on it. Gm should be ashamed as it seems there is a long list of folks with the same problem as me. I would like some monetary compensation to help repair this. Thought you guys might like to know.

Have a 2002 chevy Trailblazer- son was driving vehicle in wyoming 20 below zero loud clunk and then grinding noise and he stopped there was no 2nd or 4th gears and no reverse. Luckily someone stopped to help him and he was ok. My car only had 51,000 miles on it. I called dealership they took it in warranty was gone repairs cost 3,420. 00. I started researching complaints about the transmissions and realized there are over 82 complaints and that gm has known about this faulty part called a sunshell that's weak metal and the tork in the engine of the v6 cant handle the pressure so it eventually cracks and breaks then you dead in the water. This could have been a real safety hazard and for many I have read about their problems with children in the car its amazing no one have been killed yet. Gm refused to have a recall on this problem due to the expense and is passing this down to its consumers to bear the burden. Will I purchase another gm car? not on your life! to anyone who has this vehicle check out the transmission problems on line and contact gm if yours goes out maybe they will step to the plate and help people who paid 32,000 for one of their vehicles!.
I have a 2004 Trailblazer. I had taken it to the dealership service center on several occasions because of issues with it. The service engine light came on all the time. It would rev up the rpms for no reason and make a weird sound. It would not go into 4 -wheel drive or out of it like it is supposed to. And other things. I had it checked, and they said it was all fine and they couldnt duplicate the errors. However, subsequently, the transmission has gone out 4 times in the last 4 months. I have had it replaced 3 times. It is now at the transmission shop and they state that there is a problem with the engine has too much travel to it front to rear. The crank shaft specifically which is allowing the torque converter to pull away from the front pump and break the rotar assembly in the front pump of the transmission. This is getting expensive and frustrating. Are there any other people who have the same issues or is there an issue with the crank shaft? could it be the transmission is built wrong? this is rediculous!! I have only 70,000 miles on it. Why would I buy chevy products if they continue to fail at such low miles.

I recently purchased a 2002 chevy Trailblazer, and it's about 86,000 miles on it. At about 100,000 my transmission went. I did some research, and found out that there were many people who owned this same vehicle who had the same exact problem. I also learned that this piece that is used in the transmission called the sun shield has been the problem for a lot of people. The transmission specialist that fixed my vehicle told me that this sun shield is a faulty, and a lot of gm, and chevy owners have problems with it. There is a huge amount of people out there that are having this same problem with the same 2002 chevy Trailblazer. I was driving on the highway, and suddenly felt that something was wrong. I am just happy that I pulled over when I did, because there was a lot of traffic that day. I was very scared, because I was alone in this car, and also I did not want to be hit from behind when I was pulling over to the shoulder of the highway. I called the gm dealer, and they said that they could do nothing for me. Even when I explained to them what had happended, and that this had happened to a lot of other people. I was told that my car was not under warranty, and this was not one of the many recalls that this truck has. I then had to fix this truck myself, and it cost me 2,300. The sun shield was replaced by something called the beast which I was told would be very very durable unlike the gm sun shield part.
2003 chevy Trailblazer ext transmission problems:
transmission shifted very hard from 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd gear after vehicle had been driven for about 1 hour. This occurred several times over the course of a month. Finally, the "service engine soon" light came on during about the 4th occurrence. Called onstar and they stated that there was a powertrain/transmission problem that should be addressed soon. Took vehicle to several transmission shops and was told that the code was an 1870 "general transmission slippage" code. Transmission shop indicated that the problem is a result of a torque converter failure. Transmission is now being replaced at a transmission shop with cost of approximately $2900. Vehicle has just under 60,000 miles. It is my intense feeling that this type of replacement should not be necessary on a $38,000 vehicle with this low of miles.

I own a 2002 Trailblazer and bought it new in may 2002 and purchased the extended warranty 5 years or 50,000 miles. The other morning on my way to work my car would not shift to the next gear automatically. This happened with no warning. It did this the whole way to work. I was concerned at that point that there was a problem with the transmission. When I came out of work to leave for the day I needed to get into reverse to get out of my parking space and my vehicle would not shift into reverse. At that point I knew there was a real problem. I checked my transmission fluid and it appeared to have been a little low so I added some fluid and that did not make difference. At this time the person who was parked in front of me left so I was able to get into drive and I drove carefully home. When I called the dealer and asked if my vehicle was still under warranty they checked and it was not. I have 58,000 miles on my car and my warranty was for 5 years or 50,000 miles. So at this point I had no other choice then to take it to the dealer or another shop to have it looked at. I chose to take it to aamco transmissions since my family has used them previously for other transmission problems. The mechanic there told me that they would do diagnostic tests, a test drive and then check to make sure all connections are good. Within a couple of hours he called me to let me know that my problem with my transmission was definitely internal and they would have to rebuild it. He told me that I had no 1 2 3 shift and no reverse. Once they had taken it apart he called me to give me the damage. The cost of the rebuild with several parts needing replaced this is costing me $2500. These are the parts that needed to be replaced, torque converter, drive shaft, transfer case fluid, steel plates, drive shell, update pumps, reactor shaft, thrust washer and epc solenoid.
8 times to dlr with same problem, this time worse. Times prior were torque converter fault codes, also not allowing cruise to engage. High rpm's and will not shift into overdrive. Lunging on first and second gear when accelerating from a stop. Dealer just replaced transmission (21,000 miles) and now won't shift at all. Purchased 6 months ago. 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext 4x4.
