37 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/05/2009

Chevy Trailblazer02 model, about 40k miles in 2005 the car died on us 2 times and we couldn't find out what was the reason we had to ask for jump and it kept going on normal, then suddenly after about a couple month I saw that the battery was leaking, and damaged some a/c pipe lines under the battery, had to replace the battery and wash and clean all under and around the battery to remove the acid stuff. After that the tailgate where the third brake light is, started making noises everytime I opened it, when checked I found that the part where the rear window is affixed to the tail gate where broke and the escrews are hanging by it self which made the rear window loose and standing out, and about a week ago now that I have 61k miles in 2009 the rear brake light went off, took it to dealer and they told me about the recall on those lights and so they fixed it, which when I picked up the SUV and drove it with the family about 45 miles trip when suddenly it started blowing air and making a strong and deep noise sounded like a bus or 18 wheeler passing by, which made us cancel the trip and go back to dealer to find out what have they done to my car, take a guess, I was told that it's common on those chevy's the fan clutch to go out and that it really lasted long on my car and yes it's something normal that happens, but it cost me $950. 00 to repair it yeah sure very normal, it seems like gm parts and labors now are costing just as the german cars. Shouldn't gm make all those issues recall if it is known that are defective and are happening to most of the cars .

38 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/15/2009

2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer all instruments intermittently quit functioning during normal operation (speedometer, fuel level, rpm's, battery charge, oil pressure, temperature, mileage, and gear indicator. You can't tell what gear you are in. Difficult to figure out forward from reverse. This is not safe at all to operate especially not knowing what gear you are in.

39 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

I purchased the vehicle with approximately 63,000 miles already on it. Within a month I noticed the speedometer was doing funny things like reading 100mph when I was only driving about 25mph. I contacted a dealer and was told it would cost $500 to repair. We do not have that kind of money so I left it. The problem continued until the speedometer stopped working altogether. I had learned how to gauge my speed by using the takometer but that started to go shortly after the speedometer. Now my battery gauge is starting to show signs of fritzing. I have read online that this is a very common problem with these vehicles and that gm has not issued a recall. I now have a gps which can tell me my speed but the battery gauge is a definate safety issue. Thank you!.

40 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

The engine temperature and battery charge meter are inoperative, the needles point down (off the gauge). The speedometer and tach gauges also work intermittently. The dealer offered to replace the entire instrument cluster for approx $700, but this part is not under any kind of original or extended warranty. This same part was recalled on several other gm models, but not including the Trailblazer. Not having a temperature gauge and speedometer has potentially seriously dangerous consequences, gm needs to recall and replace this part immediately.

41 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/03/2009

For the past several months we have been experiencing difficulty with the gauges on our 2004 chevy Trailblazer. Initially the speedometer was malfunctioning but we found that if we stopped the engine and restarted it, it would reset itself. Over time, it has been unable to reset and currently reads 120mph while idle. Additionally, the other gauges have begun to malfunction as well. The gas gauge does not work at all and the battery and oil temp gauges work on occasion. It is our understanding this is a problem on chevy Trailblazers from 2002-2004, however a recall on the parts have only been called on the 02 and 03 models, not the 04. Although we have not had any accidents or received any tickets from this product failure, we have ran out of gas and had to use another device to keep track of our speed.

42 Battery problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/11/2008

I am failing compliant case of fire hazard on the blower resistor, have complained to the chevy garage about this they have known the problem was there since 2004 and never reported this, the wires burnt filling the Trailblazer hazard smoke causing my grandchildren to cough and nauseated, along with my wife and me. They will not cover to repair this . I am seeking help on this matter. Also there is a bad short somewhere causing a the battery to drain which may cause a fire . . . . . . . Not sure of what this is. I have contacted state representative [xxx] the congressman. Please contact me a. S. A. P if any more details needed . My wife uses this for work and I am very concern on the fire which may occur I am an auto mechanic for 40 + years and I know there is a server problem of a defect in this vech. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

43 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/10/2008

Headlights, dashlight dim, battery gauge jump. The headlights, dashlights and all power dims or cuts out when letting off the gas. When in the gas it works fin. When I let off everything starts dimming and cutting out. At night time people in front of me think I'm wanting them to pull over because the light flash like a police cars would. I see many of the same complaints in msg boards and the dealerships know of the problem but have no fix. They tell you to deal with it. I think its a real safety issue and need to be addresses.

44 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/08/2008

At about 65,000 miles my tachometer started to read improper, later my gauges began to read improper. This doesn't happen all the time. But you can't trust them. You never know how fast you are going, if you have fuel, if your engine is overheating,if battery is charging, if I have oil pressure. I am on disibilty and can't afford the several hundered dollars it will cost to repair. I have found from a few sources this is a common problem. I just talked to gm, I was told that if I had it repaired to keep my reciepts. But there is no recall on the 04 Trailblazer only on full size vehicles. So if I spent more money on an other venicle gm would fix it and make it safe. I feel it is unsafe for myself or my wife.

45 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/26/2008

Speedometer failed during holiday trip . Had cruise on when approach an intersection made turn when I checked speed it said 90 slowed down was almost rearended after that I realized what happened so I drove with flow of traffic . Next day got on line did some research found out gm has this problem on several types of vehicles some recalled some not . As of now I disconnected battery for 15min. Reconnected it and its working again. To replace the instrument panel is a 300 -700 dollar repair . Doesn't seem fair because they should last the life of the vehicle . If a young driver or elderly driver were to have this problem on an interstate highway could cause a chain reaction accident countless injuries / deaths and property damage. Gm knows of the problem why aren't they forced to fix it. Goes back to the 2001 model year to present . The internet has probably thousands with this same issue. And couldn't access gms complaint site.

46 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/10/2008

When driving at night typically while "coasting" between 30-50 mph my headlights on my Trailblazer dim, the battery charge goes down, and the blower stops working for just a second. After researching this on the internet I have noticed that many other people are having a similar, and unresolved problem with their Trailblazers as well. This is dangerous because headlights are necessary, also something that should not be a consistency with many consumers. Mine is a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS. I hope is matter is looked into more since there is a huge problem that many customers are having that is getting ignored. We need someone to look out for us!.

47 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/01/2008

I own a 2004 Trailblazer with 53,915 miles. In November 08, my speedometer, tachometer & oil gauges started working only about 5% of the time. I could disconnect the battery to get them to start working again but after 2 weeks of doing that both the speedometer and the tachometer quite working and point straight down to the floor board. The oil gauge works when it wants. I have done a lot of research on the internet and was shocked to see all the same complaints and gm not doing a thing to help out their customers. I hope gm will man up to their problems and place a recall on these vehicles.

48 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/24/2008

Instrument cluster goes crazy. No oil pressure/excessive oil pressure, no tach/pegged tach, speedometer gives false speed readings(this is really dangerous), battery reads low volts or off the scale volts/. This happens every day. Chevy dealers estimated repair cost $600-$700 dollars.

49 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/08/2008

The speedometer does not work accurately. It is sometimes about 30 miles off but it has wound all the way around. I can only tell my speed by the flow of traffic. The battery gage also does not work, it always shows no charge.

50 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/24/2008

I have a 2005 chevy Trailblazer. Car is in fine condition but for some reason the car died. It restarted and ran ruff. Called the dealership and they had me tow it in. They ran "tests" and said my battery terminals were loose. I told them I did not agree. They said that they found nothing. Today June 2 rush our approaching an intersection car just died again. Car is not fine. Both times I was luck to be away from others but if not. . . . . Everything failed including my brake lights. If there was anyone near me than yes there would have been property damage, a crash and a report to the police.

51 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/22/2008

Purchased my Trailblazer brand new in 2004 and started having problem with the instrument cluster in may of 2007 the speedometer has stopped working the battery and oil gauges are not reading and the rpm gauges works at random. I taken the truck back to the dealership and was told ir would be $400 to repair and it not covered under any warranty work. I'm also having a problem with the headlight working at random. They will work but cut off while I'm driving at night. I feel both issues need to have a mass recall on all 2002-2007 Trailblazers.

52 Battery problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/21/2008

I went to start the blazer to go to work. Turned the key and all electrical components went died and key stuck in the ignition. Had the blazer taken to my mechanic and they installed a new battery, two hours later the vehicle was died again. The mechanic spent the next three day trying to trace the draw that was killing the electrical system. All components checked fine. No codes. The door and window systems would not operate at all after failure. The fuel system built up to much pressure and blow out a line. The vehicle is inoperable and being sent to a local gm dealer service department for expensive diagnostics.

53 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/05/2008

2004 chevy Trailblazer all gauges, tachometer, speedometer, battery, fuel, have failed one at a time starting with tachometer not operating at all, to speedometer sporatic for several months, now currently stuck at over 120mph. Have contacted dealer about problem and they say it is a very common problem in this model, there has been no recall for this issue and would be approx. $1500 to repair. Why is gm not concerned with this issue?this is definately a safety issue to be driving at unknown speeds with an unknown fuel level, etc. ---- absolutely obsurd!!!.

54 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/04/2008

I have a 2005 Trailblazer and the lights will dim and the battery gauge will drop down. I have taken this to the dealer and they can never seem to find anything wrong. I have read on the internet that gm has no answer for why this is happening. I have people that will pull over for me because they think that I am flashing my lights at them. This has been happening since I got the SUV 2 1/2 years ago.

55 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

I own a 2004 chevy Trailblazer which started giving me problems almost as soon as the warranty was over. Most of the gauges (speedometer, tachometer, battery indicator, etc. . . ) in the instrument panel are not functioning or function only sporadically and erratically. Also the air bag light stays on continuously. I have been reading online that this is a fairly common problem on this vehicle and that gm even sued (and won) the instrument panel manufacturer. However no recall has been issued on Trailblazers, meanwhile other gm vehicles (I. E. Chevy silverado) that uses the same instrument panel and thereby has the same problems have been recalled. General motors should not be allowed to exhibit this kind of behavior and a recall should be issued to every vehicle they built which used this faulty and failure prone instrument panel. Sincerely, outraged Trailblazer owner.

56 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/13/2007

Trailblazer refused to charge the battery on the travel trailer. The dash lights occasionally flickered, then came back on strong. Gm dealer could not find the problem. A local mechanic simply took the cover off the electrical distribution box at the front right of the engine, then pushed all the wires deeper into their contact sockets. That resolved the problems, at least until now. Now the service engine light is on again, and it says it is for the pressure system.

57 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/15/2007

2003 chevy Trailblazer LS 4x4 - the gauges on the dash board do not work. This includes the speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, battery gauge and octameter. I've read many bulletin boards indicating the same issue. The dashboards for these vehicles should be recalled.

58 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, speedometer stopped working properly. At 45k miles had the battery replaced and the speedometer hasn't worked properly since. Haven't had it repaired yet. I use my aftermarket gps to know my speed.

59 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/01/2007

No warning. While driving down the road, the car just shuts down. The first time we had it towed to aaa automark, they replaced the battery but did not find anything else wrong. It has happened 3 times since. We have been able to coast off of the road without incidence so far, but this is dangerous. I went to the website below, several people have experienced and described the same conditions. I do not drive the car on the highway at this time. . Read more...

60 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/09/2007

While driving at night (more noticeable), the head lights appear to dim then brighten (flashing the vehicle ahead). While this is occuring, the battery gauge bounce drastically from min to max then back to the middle. This has been occuring since the day I bought this vehicle June 05. Also while this occurs, the vehicle tends to lose rpm power so as you are driving there is a "jerk" in the forward motion.

61 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/08/2007

2005 Trailblazer. Middle of high way engine stopped and instrument panel went crazy. Some time later ignition key worked again. I changed battery but it happened again and when I turned the ignition key to start the engine, sometimes is work and sometimes id doesn't. The dealer wanted me to pay for diagnosis fee my car is 46000 out of warranty and as I check internet forum some people have the same trouble and dealer covered the money how can I protect my family with the engine stopping in middle of highway!!!!!!!!.

62 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

I live in southwest ohio and I own a 2002 Trailblazer. I noticed that in December of 2006, my rear windshield wiper would not function when turned on. Shortly thereafter, we had our first frost and I noticed that the rear defogger/defroster was not working. It is now nearly 0 degrees outside and even if I clean the window with a scraper, it still frosts up while driving. I have looked for a fuse to replace, but find none for the rear defrost, and the one for the rear wiper is fine. Just yesterday, I picked up some large items at a home improvement store and was unable to unlock the rear gate, I tried to use the button on my remote, to which the car no longer responds, even with new battery, I tried to unlock it from the driver side controls with the car off and turned on, but nothing happened. So there me and my pregnant wife were standing in zero temperature weather with three large items on a cart and nowhere to go with them. We ended up paying somebody to haul them to our house.

63 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/20/2007

We bought the vehicle in 2004-2005, about a year later the instrument panel started having some intermittent problems, that's when we found out about the recalls. We took the vehicle to the local dealer (airport Chevrolet) where the repairs were made. About a year later the instrument panel started having the same problems, I took it back into the dealer, they said it would cost me about $500 to have it fixed and it would not be covered under the recall. I contacted chevy by email, and after a couple of months of emailing back and forth they said "they have to draw the line on age and mileage for the recall". I told them I was going to contact my attorney, they said they did not want to hear anything more about it and not to email again. Since then we have driven the vehicle, the more we drive it, the more something else, electrical, goes wrong. I. E. The rear wiper does not work, the cooling/heating fan does not work, the radio/cd player gets really hot, the last thing that happened was the battery got fried and my cell phone while plugged into the cig liter for recharge almost got fried, almost too hot to touch. So I am paying monthly payments for a vehicle I can not drive.

64 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/17/2006

Gm is having an electrical issue on many 2004 vehicles resulting in gradual deteriation of instrument cluster performance. It starts with the speedometer failing, reading 120 mph while sitting at a red light. Then the fuel guage, low fuel light will come on, then while driving to a fuel station it will slowly climb to 1/2 tank reading or more. Next is the tachometer, it will bounce from 2000 rpm to over 6000 rpm (red line) also while sitting at stop sign or parked in a parking space. Finally the oil and coolant temperature gauges read hot (past red line) at intial start up from sitting 12 hours in -3 degree weather. An online search has found numerous complaints of the same problem around the united states extending beyond the Trailblazer to other vehicles. This same issue was recalled on gm trucks but the other vehicles. The vehicle operator has no acurate idea of mph, rpm, oil or water temperature and battery charge. The average repair cost to replace the bad computer board is $500 to $1000.

65 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/23/2006

Ac delco factory installed battery leaks battery acid on the positive side terminal causing my 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext to lose all power including loss of being able to open rear door.

66 Battery problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/06/2006

Factory installed battery leaking acid out of the side mounted terminals at 3. 5 years 40k miles. No warranty coverage after 3 years 36k. Other complaints and web-postings with same problem, obviously battery is defective.

67 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/27/2005

On August 27th I was driving down the road when blue smoke came out from under the hood which smelled like plastic/copper burning the cruise control along with the back windshield wiper stopped working it was taken to Chevrolet dealership but not the one where it was purchased I was told they couldn't find the source of the problem after having my car a total of 3 days needless to say on the way back home more electrical problems occurred since the dealership failed to fix it not only did smoke come out from under the hood the lights on the dash/radio would flash from bright to dim the battery gauge was moving back and forth the radio stopped working the car is back in the shop when hooked to the computer at the dealership where it was purchased it showed some electrical problems with the cruise/windshield wiper.

68 Battery problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/04/2005

Have had my 2003 Trailblazer lt 2wd v8 in the shop under warranty many times. First was a recall on the drive shaft which was replaced 3 times. Still have a noise the dealed says they don't hear! next came the taillight recall. Now I have a recurring problem with a dead battery. This doesn't happen all the time and nothing has been left on to cause it. I can go into a store and come out to find it dead. When you charge the battery, then either the heated seats work improperly, the blower won't come on, something different every time.

69 Battery problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

I was backing out of a driveway when my radio starting sounding funny, then smoke started filling up in the car it smelled like wires were burning. I could not see the gear, the door or window would not open and I was trapped in my seat belt. All of my passengers got out safe. I was screaming that I could not get out that's when my son came and pulled me out the truck. I got a few scratches on my leg and my knee. The truck would not start back up for awhile. It shut it self down, it started back up about 15 minutes later. I was about 3 blocks from my home, I was dropping off a neighbor. I did manage to drive home this happened on January 1, 2005 at about 2:30 am. I did start the truck up about 2:00 pm you could still smell burnt wires. I am afraid to drive it. The doors will not lock and all of the dash board warning lights are lit up, like the check engine, battery, brake light and etc. I will be getting it towed on Monday , January 3, 2005 to bill wink dealership.

70 Battery problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/26/2004

The headlights, dash lights and dome lights all flicker intermittently. I have had this problem since Nov 2004 when I bought the truck. Recently I've noticed the battery gauge fluctuate rather wildly when this problem is occurring. In my case, there seems to be a connection to the outside temperature. However, given the intermittent nature of the problem I can't be certain. I have noticed the problem more when the temps are around 35-45f. The dealer has seen the vehicle several times for the problem and still can't determine the issue. The big problem is they haven't been able to reproduce the condition. The truck now has 75000 miles and is 4 years old. The flickering/flashing has gotten much worse. On Dec 2, 2008 the flickering was more akin to outright flashing. Other drivers being noticeably affected.
