2002 Trailblazer ltz the current and failure kilometres are 106,545 km. The vehicle began to have a strong odor of gas inside and out. It seemed as if we were consuming gas at a very high rate. Had the vehicle checked and it was not visible where the vehicle was dripping fuel. Nothing was found. Later took vehicle to the dealer and was found to have corroded fuel lines on the fuel module sending unit on the top of the fuel tank. At a repair cost of $850. 00. We feel this is a safety issue as it could have caught on fire at any time. We understand there is an investigation report (NHTSA action#ea07-009) being done. This manufacturers defect is a serious threat to people driving this type of vehicle. Parts such as these should last longer than 100,000 kilometers. We have retained old part from dealer.

When filling gas tank, when nozzle shuts off ,gas belches out of tank filler tube. Spalashes gas on shoes and clothing. Also gets gas on inside of car fender. You can then smell gas fumes when car is parked in garage.

When 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer is filled with gas, gas comes back out of trailbzer to form up to a 2ft. Puddle of gas on the ground! gas up to 2ft. Wide down the paint! my 2 1/2 year old son strapped in car seat and others have been inside when this has happened, mainly at renton wa. Safeway gas pumps, but other pumps as well! I told good Chevrolet in renton wa. As far back as April 2003 of this problem and at first they claimed their was no problems whatsoever with Trailblazers, but some chevy tahoe SUV's had the problem! maybe I didn't know how to fill a tank, try a different gas station, don't remove nozzle for a few seconds. . . I tried everything they said and kept calling and telling them of the problem!!! I asked for one of them to come with me and witness it and they declined! by may and June im still telling good Chevrolet of the continuing problem! they ask to look at the Trailblazers tank and fill tube. . Maybe its kinked, fill tube or ball check problem. . . They said it looks great nothing found, and they filled it with gas at their pump and no gas came out at all! I had told them to fill it at the renton safeway!!!!!,but they didn't!!!! I wonder why?. . . Bob manning the service manager at good Chevrolet had been advised of all this in many phone calls to him! now in July they want to replace the filler neck and tank. When they fill it again they still do not go to renton safeway like I told them again. . I fill it and gas comes out!!! I call again and ask again for a witness from good Chevrolet, finally they send a tech. With me. We drive to renton safeway I put the nozzle in tank, put on the "clicker" stand back, the tank fills and as they clicker shuts off when the tanks is full, gas comes out and forms a puddle on the ground!!!! I've called the bbb, attorney general and now you. . . The Trailblazer also has large pops of static discharge constantly! I was stone walled with my concerns!.
The vehicle began to have a strong odor of gas. It seemed that it was consuming gas at a very high rate. Had the vehicle checked and it was not visible where the vehicle was leaking the fuel. Knowing that the fuel system is a pressurized system it was felt we should be able to see the spray easily while on a lift and the vehicle running. Nothing was found. Vehicle taken to a service garage and the fuel tank was dropped. Looking at the fuel sensor unit assembly it was noticed that it was corroded. When cleaning the top of the tank with air pressure the sender unit assembly had rusted to the point the air was blowing chunks of metal away. The mechanic advised that the sender unit is recessed into the tank which allows water and other contaminates to sit on top of the metal and deteriorate it. The vehicle has 56000 miles and is serviced regularly. It would seem it had failed prematurely or due to design flaw.
Vehicle owner is kenneth starr of clover, SC(grandfather). Fuel line became detached from engine while driving on thruway, large quantities of fuel sprayed on and around engine. Vehicle is not in previous recall for this problem, would suggest this problem is wider than previously thought. In opinion of trooper and machanic, it was only the fact that he was going 60+ mph that kept the fuel from hitting the manifold and igniting, with the amount of fuel released, survival of vehicle occupants would have been a unlikely. Manufacture date of this vehicle is listed as 01/02.
I was driving on the freeway and lost the ability to accelerate. I pulled my car over, and I was inside the car until a tow truck arrived. The tow truck driver informed me that gasoline was pouring out from the underside of the car. A clip failure that left my truck sitting in a gasoline pipe. Gm fixed it, but gave it back to me with no gas in my car. I barely made it to the gas station.
Engine died while driving at 55 mph. Pulled over to the side of the road and tried to start vehicle, but it would not turn over. When driver side door was opened, I noticed a large puddle that smelled like gasoline. Looked under vehicle and saw that gas was still leaking out. Vehicle was towed to nearest Chevrolet dealership. Dealer found fuel filter retaining clip had come loose. While at the dealership they also replaced 4wd switch. It had been switching to 4hi and 4lo while in a4wd. Not even two days later, the car again died while driving along at 55 mph. Engine would not turn over, so vehicle was towed to dealership it was bought from. When dealership service tried to start the car it cranked once then a sound like free spinning was apparent. When the spark plugs were removed broken pieces of piston and ring were found inside the engine and the spark plugs were smashed. Engine was replaced.
