Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have reported 12 problems related to gasoline storage (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I am the first and only owner of a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Around 25,000 miles, ses light came on, got serviced under warranty with a burned out O2 sensor as the cause. At 30, 000 miles, the ses light came on again. I took it to the dealership (out of warranty) and paid $80 for diagnostics. Service rep came back saying vehicle was fine, codes were in the computer's history and no problems exist. Two days later, ses light pops back up. Due to the weather, I garaged my Trailblazer and began to smell fuel inside my house, and was even stronger in the garage. Raw fuel was leaking out from under the gas tank, and parts were doused. I call gm, explain the problem and basically was told there were no recalls/special repairs etc. On 2004 models. They did call the dealership and will have a rep call me back.

My check engine light came on. After linking to the computer I had a code # p0442. After I, and my mechanic inspected the vehicle, we found that the gas tank was cracked and leaking. I had to replace the faulty gas tank, for an expensive fee. I called chevy, and to sum it up, I was left to work this problem out on my own, with no financial help from gm.

Strong gasoline smell in passenger compartment. Smell is strongest underneath vehicle fuel tank. Have not yet had vehicle serviced to determine root cause.
Service engine light came on. My private mechanic found it to be code p0440 indicating the fuel evaporation system had a problem. Initial inspection found nothing but upon performing a smoke test of the fuel system, the fuel inlet nozzle on the fuel tank was found leaking. Only fix was to replace the tank. Total cost was $2200. I notified gm and was told they cannot do anything since the vehicle is out of warranty. Fuel tanks should not be leaking, especially when they are only 4 years of age. Many other similar complaints on this website show this to be a common problem with this vehicle. A recall to check all fuel tanks should be done before someone is killed over this poor design/quality issue.
Fuel odor from the vehicle.
2004 Trailblazer LS with code p0455 diagnosed with broken/cracked seam on fuel tank inlet neck. Very strong fuel odors both inside and outside vehicle. Chevy acknowledged this same problem with the 2002 models via campaign #05012. This is a safety issue, can leaking fuel and/or breathing fumes be deemed as safe? chevy needs to step up and proactively fix the problem on all Trailblazer models. I know both NHTSA and chevy know of this problem already, so are liable if nothing is done.
Since July 2006, mileage 49,000, we have had our check engine light come on many times for the same code. After many trips to the garage, and many things replaced, on Jan 31, 2007, mileage 55,802, the dealer told us that I should not drive it home as it could be a fire hazard as there were cracks all over the top part of the gas tank by the filler hose. A new tank was put on and cost came to $832. 74. I spoke with customer service at gm and they said gm would do nothing for reimbursement. Since then, I have seen many vehicles posted on the web that have had to have there tanks replaced. If this is a safety concern and fire hazard, why is this not becoming a recall, and why is gm not being held responsible for any of this? I don't think a vehicle with 49,000 miles on should have to have a tank replaced. Thanks for your time.
My 2003 Trailblazer ext smell of fumes. I took it to the dealership in the first case they told me that I need a new gas top and a seal. The check engine like came on again this time they tell me that the fuel tank at the sprout has a leak and I need a new gas tank.
There is a strong gasoline smell near the rear of my 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. No dripping gasoline is visible.
2003 Chevrolet Trailblazers 3-4 weeks ago my service engine soon light came on and I took it to the dealership who showed me a leak at the junction of the gas tank and the hose from where you fill up the tank. The service man tightened the clamp. The light came on again and I took the tb back and was told the connection was cracked and that the tank had to be replaced. I haven't been in an accident, haven't run over anything etc to cause this. I am having the tank replaced--.
Since purchasing the vehicle, I have experienced problems putting gas in the vehicle. The gas pump keeps stopping - as if the car is full. This happens frequently, but not always. It doesn't matter which station I go to. The dealer replaced some filler hoses or something after I had taken it in a few times, but they were not able to correct the problem. It is very annoying and sometimes I only fill the car up 1/2 - 3/4 full because I can't tell if it is full or not. I squeeze the handle and it immediately kicks off. This also happens when others are fueling the vehicle. It doesn't matter if I turn the nozzle different directions or pull it part of the way out of the vehicle. I also frequently overfill the vehicle because I don't know that it is full. I noticed someone else reported this as a consumer complaint - so it's not just my Trailblazer with the problem! it takes a long time to fill the tank when you can only put 1 second worth of gas in at a time! now my warranty is out, so I am probably stuck with this problem as long as I have the vehicle.

After noticing a strong smell of gasoline and discovering a puddle of gasoline under the fuel tank, it was discovered the fuel tank had a split in the tank where the filler neck joins the tank. Ts.
