I was dropping the family off at a birthday party before going into work. The family kept complaining about the strong gas fumes. The smell was extremely overpowering. When I arrived at work, I noticed that it looked like gas was leaking around the middle of the gas tank, on top. Then, the gauge started not registering when gas was being put in. It is also very hard to start up. The vehicle takes 2 cranks before it will actually start up. When I asked a mechanic what it could possibly be, he stated that the Trailblazers are known for having an exposed area on top of tank that gets corroded and that the fuel pump and fuel sending unit would have to be replaced. The estimate was for $700-800 dollars. I cannot continue driving until it is repaired, otherwise, someone will flick a cigarette out window and the Trailblazer will blow up.
2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle fuel gauge sensor issues. The consumer state the first time the fuel gauge starting acting erratic was in 2007. The dealer informed his wife, the vehicle had ran out of gas, even though the gauge indicated there was 1/2 tank of gas. The consumer stated he continues to experience an erratic behavior of the fuel pump and the low fuel indicator light illuminated. The latest preliminary diagnosis was the vehicle was unable to sustain an idle, because of the erratic fuel pressure (fuel pump). The consumer also stated the vehicle has electrical problems and the oil pressure gauge was inoperative.

I will soon be replacing my 3rd fuel pump. You can not purchase a sending unit separately and you can not replace a fuel filter for maintenance. Also the master window switch stopped operating yesterday after a burning smell filled the truck. The master window switch is melted. Had issues with I first bought the truck with it "shutting down" on the highway, no gas, no power steering, no control. Received a year of free oil changes from chevy after a complaint was filed, they still to this day can not tell my why my truck would randomly shut down. . . . . Updated 06/18/12

Had to replace fuel tank because filler neck cracked due to being brittle had to replace fuel pump due to top rusting out and causing a gas leak I received a large bill to replace these parts and expected them to last longer then 8 years.
My fuel sensor and fuel pump have stopped working on my vehicle. I would like to have this fixed but I don't have the $1100. 00 to pay for it.
Gas gauge does not operate has a reuslt of defective fuel pump.
I have a 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext the fuel pump module has started to corrode, I knew something was wrong because of the strong oder of gasoline inside the vehicle and further investigation showed a leak of gas also. This is in addition to our gas gauge not working for the last 3 years. Upon talking to multiple rep's, gm claims they sent out letters in 2007 alerting the consumer to a potential problem. I am the second owner of this vehicle. I purchased this vehicle in September 2005. Gm stated that letters do get lost in the mail, when I stated we were not made aware of this situation. I was never informed of this potential hazard waiting to happen. Gm claims the service bulletin had parameters of 10 years or a 120, 000 miles which ever comes first. I have been in contact with the rep several times, and have not been successful. I do have 149,000 plus miles on this vehicle. I took the truck to the local dearlship, they were claiming nothing has ever been documented on this type of vehicle. This is when I did my own research and found the service bulletin as mentioned above and the complaints of this same problem all through the internet blogs. It seems we are not getting anywhere and would appreciate some condsideration from gm and taking part of the responsibility for this problem. We had our children in this car when the gas was leaking out, what if it would have caught on fire? I would like to contact our regional representative for gm.
1. Fuel gauge on our 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS sport with 6 cyl. Engine became erratic going up and down without relation of how much gas was in the gas tank. This started when vehicle mileage was below 40,ooo miles. 2. Now the fuel gauge always reads empty, and we have to go by trip mileage to determine when to fuel up. Once June 18, 2011) when we hadn;t filled the tank fully, the distance on it was misjudged and ran out of fuel on a main thoroughfare during heavy traffic. Thankfully an accident didn't happen. 3. We had checked the internet about this problem and found it wasn't rare, but quite prevalent on our vehicle and similar ones, due to defetive fuel sending units having contacts corrode. We put in a bottle of gm fuel treatment, with no change. The expense to replace the combined sensor/fuel pump unit that is located in the gas tank isn't worth spending as the replacement part is identical to the original and the problem will happen again. If the fuel runs out in an intersection or rush hour traffic a crash could result that could cause injury or death. .
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact sated that the fuel gauge failed and the gauge would read empty whether the fuel tank was full or empty. The contact reset the trip computer to be able to determine when the vehicle would run out of fuel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the fuel pump sensor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.
1. On 5/19/2011, after filling my 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer with gasoline, I noticed the gas light had iluminated on when pulling out of the station parking lot. I drove down the road two-three miles before pulling over and letting the car sit for 20-30 minutes. Upon restarting the engine, the gauge moved to 1/4 tank, and then dropped back to empty. I drove home, and upon starting the engine the next morning the gas gauge was still showing empty. After 2 days, the gauge moved back up to 3/4 tank. On 6/1/2011, I had 1/4 tank and refilled, only to find the gas light illuminated a second time after fueling. The gauge is currently reading 3/4 tank when just filled yesterday. 2. In response to incorrect gasoline gauge in my Trailblazer, I have begun paying close attention to miles driven and resetting my odometer at each fill-up. However this is only a quick-fix, as I forsee issues arising due to inablitly to properly read gasoline levels in my tank. 3. At this point, I have made a phone call to the dealer, estimated repari exceeds 1,000 usd. No action has been taken at this point to replace the fuel pump/gauge. Thank you. Rochele r. Locey.
Fuel guage indicated almost 1/2 tank of fuel but was really empty. Stalled in fast lane of 4 lane highway at 70mph. Near rear-end collision. Defective fuel pump sender assembly.
Fuel gauge failing to register correct amount of fuel. Took to local mechanic and they said the fuel sensor has failed and need to replace entire fuel pump system. Quoted repair cost of $900 (including parts and labor).
Faulty fuel gauge / fuel sending unit / fuel reading / fuel pump. I have had to have my fuel pump replaced three times now due to faulty fuel sending units. This is a major problem because my truck now shows that I am always on empty and can be a huge hazard and life endangerment. I dont want to be going down a highway at 70 mph and have my truck stall. I have replaced this unit twice already and I am now with a faulty one again. All original manufacturer equipment. No after market replacements. It seems that new manufacturer units will work for about 10,000 - 30,000 miles and then fail. This is an issue that I have seen reported hundreds of times by gm owners of Trailblazers and similar makes. My problem is with a 2006 chevy Trailblazer v6 LS model with 126,000 miles.
I have a 2007 chevy Trailblazer, for the last year I have been having problems with my SUV wanting to stall. I had my fuel pump/gauges replaced 1 year ago because my fuel gauge did not work at all. I was told that the fuel gauge is read by a portion of the actual fuel pump that is inside my fuel tank. That cost me more than $600 out of my own pocket since they had to remove my fuel tank to replace it. My fuel gauge has been working fairly normal up until yesterday, on my way to work at 6:15am my vehicle stalled in the driving lane of a 2 lane frontage road because I was out of gas. Thankfully, the road was not extremely busy at that time of morning. However, my fuel gauge still showed that I had almost 1/2 tank, when in fact my car stalled because I ran out of gas. I hope that some kind of resolution can be agreed upon with gm to get the problem corrected so that it does not happen in the future.
I started having problems with the fuel gauge swinging between full and empty then my check engine light came on. I've been told that I need an whole new fuel pump assembly and that the fuel tank will have to be dropped to replace it. I've been just setting the trip meter and filling it up every 250 miles because the fuel gauge now just stays lit on empty all the time. I don't have any problems with it running, starting, etc. So I'm assuming that it's just the sensor that is out. 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext.
I have had problem with fuel level sensor on a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer lt,v-8. Does not show fuel level correctly. This was not covered under warranty, but the fuel pump that it is attached to is covered. So, I had to pay out of pocket to fix problem. Feel I should be reimbursed. The only thing the dealership has done was to send me a 10 percent discount on my next repair.
The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact smelled a fuel odor and noticed fuel spilling underneath the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the steel air bolts from the fuel pump were covered with rust. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that he had to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 170,000. Updated 04/15/lj.
Fuel pump/ fuel level sensor 2005 chevy trilblazer. Show inaccurate fuel level at all times.
I have replaced the fuel guage, fuel pump on my 2005 Trailblazer after it quit working. I also have a 2006 Trailblazer and my wife ran out of gas, when we filled it up, the gas guage did the same thing as the 2005, so we have to use the odometer to know when to fill up. When I called my mechanic, he explained the situation was the same as my 2005. This is a very expensive repair.
My Trailblazer has experienced the same problem as some other ones that I have read on here. My gas gauge quit completely, at first it would read full then go down and now it stays on empty with the light on. If there are so many Trailblazers having this problem why isn't there a recall and why isn't Chevrolet fixing this instead of putting it on the consumer to do it. I have ran out of gas on the highway and had to pullover and was lucky that I could maneuver it over to the side of the road. What are they waiting on for some people to get killed before they do anything about it? when it dies nothing works and you are stuck where it dies. This is a serious problem which needs to be addressed by Chevrolet and they need to fix the problem, they shouldn't be putting faulty things on vehicles and not own up to it. They need to own up to the problem and fix it. Also I can't afford to have it fixed. I have been told by a mechanic that the fuel pump should be replaced not just the sensor.
We own a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The driver added fuel to the tank; however, the gas gauge indicated that it was empty. The driver turned the vehicle off and back on to see if the gauge would reset; to no avail. The following day the gas gauge did indicate that the fuel tank was full; yet, while driving approximately 25 mph, the gauge slowly began to move up and down but never indicating that the tank was full. Since the fuel gage has malfunctioned, the contact is unsure of how much fuel was in the tank. The engine shut off a month ago because the fuel tank was empty and the fuel gauge did not indicate that. The driver did contact a mechanic who stated that they needed to replace the fuel pump. A mechanic stated that the failure was common for Trailblazers and the it would cost between $600-$1200. To repair the vehicle. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage is approx. 76,000.
I just purchased a 2005 chevy trail blazer for my youngest daughter and safety was the reason for an SUV. Two monthes after my purchase the gas gage no longer works, almost always on e and some times jumps around. I cant afford to take chances with her life with an accedent or run out of gas in the wrong place. I asked a dealer and they told me they fix this problem on every trail blazer. They also told me I have to replace the fuel pump as well and this should be a recall issue. The total bill is around $700 for something that shouldnt happen on every Trailblazer, dont you agree? I have done my homework and I see this happens to everyones Trailblazer and could make us all look @ other autos in the future. Im very happy with chevy cars, trucks and SUV's lets keep our relationship a positive one ok? $700 will not brake my wallet just my trust.
Like thousands of other owners (since this happens to the GMC envoy too, so it's not just a chevy issue), one day the gas gauge works fine, the next it reads empty after filling it up. However, as a bonus, the friendly check engine light now comes on randomly to let me know the fuel gauge isn't working. I've had the codes read by two different places and this is the only error recorded. I now have to use the trip meter to "guess" when the truck needs filling up. Since it's going to cost me several hundred dollars I don't have to fix it, I'll just have to live with the inconvenience. In massachusetts, like many other states, they do an emissions test by plugging into the vehicle's computer. Well, since the check engine light has come on at some point, the computer says "not ready" and the vehicle fails the test. You have to wait until the light goes off and then drive about a week before the computer resets itself. However, without fail, the light always comes back on just before taking it back to get re-inspected, thus resetting the whole process. I've had this happen for the last 3 weeks in a row regardless of number of days/miles driven. Another week and another tank of gas wasted. So, in order to get the car to pass inspection, I either have to get real lucky with the check engine light or have the repair made. Since this issue prevents the vehicle from passing the state inspection, it should be considered a safety/emissions concern and all vehicles recalled to repair the combination fuel pump/sending unit. If gm doesn't consider this a concern and recall the vehicles for this repair, then they need to have the vehicles recalled to have the check engine light stop coming on so the vehicles can pass state inspections.
I have an 06 chevy Trailblazer that the fuel gauge is not reading right. I have been told that I will need a new fuel sensor but to get that I will have to replace the whole fuel pump. I have done some resource online and have seen that alot of people are having the same problem. We all seem to feel that gm should do a recall for this part.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was defective and as a result, she was unable to tell the level of fuel in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel sensor and fuel pump needed to be replaced at a cost of $ 600. 00. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered to pay for half of the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 108,000. Updated 06/26/12 the consumer stated she ran out of gas twice. Updated 06/27/11.
At around 80,000 miles my 2006 cheverolet Trailblazer started showing empty when I filled up with gas. Now at about 85,000 miles it continually shows empty. Have researched and found out that I will have to replace the whole fuel pump/intake and outtake which could cost around $800 at the dealership. Have also found out that this is a common problem with the later model Trailblazers. Needs a recall!!.

Year : 2005 component : fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump I bought my 2005 Trailblazer a little over a year ago. The gas gauge does not work. It would go all the way to full and then after a couple of miles it would go to "empty. " the fuel light comes on and the car will make a loud beep to let you know you are out of fuel. The beep really throws off your concentration to the road and is very distracting. It makes you tap the brakes which could definitely lead to an accident or even running out of gas. This is a serious issue and needs to be fixed.
The fuel sensor of our 2005 chevy Trailblazer has stopped working. Fixing this will require removing the fuel tank and replacing the fuel pump.
Fuel pump sending unit gas tank shows empty even when the tank is full was told it would be 700. 00 to fix this should be a recall the Trailblazer only has 48,000 mile son it.
When I fill my gas tank the fuel gauge goes to empty and stays there, and sometimes goes erratic up and down so you never know how much fuel is in the tank. I am very afraid that by not knowing how much gas is in the tank, it may lead to over filling and causing a fire hazard at the pump by spewing gas all over to running out of gas in a passing lane of a highway possibly causing serious injury to myself or anyone else in my 2006 Trailblazer, to injury or death to anyone in their car that may hit me or run into someone else to avoid me. This is an extremely dangerous situation that I see occurs to many, many others with my 2006 gm Trailblazer similar models of different years!! at this time I have not gotten to a mechanic on this issue, but seeing on blogs it appears to be the sensing unit and fuel pump.
Own a 2006 Chevrolet trail blazer. Have run out of gas three times because the gas gauge does not read. The car is full of gas, but the gauge still reads empty. Have run out of gas on main roads and caused traffic jams. Will cost over $1000 to repair the fuel pump.
2006 chevy Trailblazer: after filling the car up, the gas gauge reads empty and throws the check engine light. I have been told this is not an uncommon problem. It has also been brought to my attention that it is caused by the fuel level sensor/ fuel pump assembly. I was also told that it can cause problems with the drive train if it is not fixed. I have spoke to other Trailblazer owners and they too have the same problem. My Trailblazer only has a little over 43,000 miles on it.
Filled tank, strong gasoline smell, check engine light came on, took to local gm dealer. Fueltank leaking at filler neck. Would not let me leave ,too dangerous!! replaced fuel pump and tank, $2000. Repair!!! gm will not cover because it states it does not cover texas.
