36 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/23/2010

First of all my fuel lever sensor went out. I only figured it out when I was in a busy shopping intersection and my vehicle just shut down. Lucky for me no car rear ended me but one did come close. At the time as far I knew my car had over half a tank of gas in it. Come to find out late it didn't. To my embarrassment I slowed and stopped traffic for close to an hour while I called for help and had to be towed. My mechanic explained the problem (the fuel level sensor) and gave me two options get the part replace or keep track of the mileage and gas I put in daily, because of the cost to replace the part plus labor I decided to keep track of the mileage instead of having it replaced. Now I'm having a whole other issue I am only able to pump $10 of gas at a time because now my fuel pump went out also. When I pump gas my car thinks that it has gas when it doesn't. Now I have no option but the get my car repaired for both issues of which I am doing this week. This is seriously ridiculous. I should not be having these issues with this new of a car. Hopefully something is done about this issue.

37 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

The fuel gauge on our 2006 chevy Trailblazer has failed along with the check engine light coming on resulting from numerous codes. The entire fuel pump/filter/sending unit has to be replaced (a $300 part) and the vehicle won't pass and inspection without it. Gm needs to recall this vehicle for this problem and refund owners who have spent money fixing the problem if they want to continue to stay in business.

38 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

Spring of 2010, I encountered an erratic malfuncting fuel gas. I actually ran out of gas just once! gauge would show full, empty, fuel light on, gauge moving up and down. Some days it worked fine. I finally had the "fuel pump assy / sender unit" replaced at a cost of $762. That fixed the problem. Not happy!.

40 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the service engine light was illuminated when he started the vehicle. Two weeks after noticing the check engine light, he smelled strong gas fumes. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the dealer dropped the fuel tank and found all types of fuel spraying from it. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was caused by the fuel pump. The contact called the manufacturer who told him that someone would contact him within two business days to discuss the expenses of the repair. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The VIN was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were approximately 60,000.

41 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The driver added fuel to the tank; however, the gas gauge indicated that it was empty. The driver turned the vehicle off and back on to see if the gauge would reset; to no avail. The following day the gas gauge did indicate that the fuel tank was full; yet, while driving approximately 25 mph, the gauge slowly began to move up and down but never indicating that the tank was full. Since the fuel gage has malfunctioned, the contact is unsure of how much fuel was in the tank. The engine shut off a month ago because the fuel tank was empty and the fuel gauge did not indicate that. The driver did contact a mechanic who stated that they needed to replace the fuel pump. A mechanic stated that the failure was common for Trailblazers and the it would cost between $400-$750 to repair the vehicle. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.

44 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when he noticed that the fuel gauge was displaying an inaccurate fuel level reading. The failure was intermittent for approximately three months until the fuel gauge failed completely, only displaying a reading of empty. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was advised that either the fuel level sensor or fuel pump would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.

45 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/13/2009

I have a 2005 chevy Trailblazer. I purchased said vehicle at the end of July-beginning of August 2007. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of owning a chevy due to not having any issues. . . Well that was until December 2009. I began noticing that my gas gauge was malfunctioning. I would fill up the tank but it would read empty, and that problem has been ongoing since my discovery. I currently have to read my mileage to know when to put gas in my tank. Additionally, I have ran out of gas twice and both times putting myself in harms way and damaging my fuel pump (which is costly). Just two days ago I ran out of gas on a busy street, I didn't panic, but I was a bit nervous. I hit the hazards, and pulled up my emergency break (because breaks and steering wield froze up). The vehicle behind me slammed on breaks just missing me by inches. This is no way to live and drive. I'm scared to go out of town or take back roads because I may give out of gas in an area where there is no cell phone tower or low to no signals. This has put me in a very bad space.

46 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

I have a 2005 chevy Trailblazer. About a year ago the gas gauge quit working. My understanding was that it would cost almost as much to replace the sensor as it would to replace the fuel pump. I continued driving the car using the trip mileage. I have run out of gas several times. The last couple of times I realized there was no way I could be out of gas yet. What is now happening is I cannot get more than a couple of gallons of gas in my car at any time. The mechanic says it is because the sensor is stuck and thinks it is fuller than it is. So now I cannot drive more than 20 miles or so before stopping for gas again. Please do something about this!!!!!.

47 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/24/2009

The fuel gauge sensor is malfunctioning in my 2006 chevy Trailblazer. In reading on-line posts, this is a common problem that gm is ignoring. I already had to pay out of pocket for a rear differential that snapped about 7 months ago. Now I have to deal with a gas gauge that could potentially leave me out of gas or even cause problems with the fuel pump.

48 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

Fuel pump registers empty all the time, intermittent check engine light (especially just after refueling). Auto will not pass emission inspection due to check engine light. Started just after warranty ran out. Bought the car with 16000 miles on it in 2006. Have recently run out of gas very suddenly, causing a dangerous situation in a high traffic intersection. Gauging gas by mileage is very inaccurate due to heat fluctuation, air conditioning use, etc. No recall? 1000's of complaints on the internet.

49 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

I own a 2003 chevy Trailblazer v6 LS. I always noted the presence of an odor of gas especially when filling up my vehicle, it grew progressively worse over a two year time frame. Then in July of 2009 the check engine light would come on and go off. I noticed gas dripping from the underside near the gas tank! finally evidence of a leak! a very strong smell of gas and took it to my service garage. The examined the problem and told me I needed a new fuel pump assembly. They repaired it to the tune of $680 dollars. 4 weeks later I was back, still smelling gas. They had to drop the tank again and replace the assembly unit gasket. I think this may be a wide spread problem not just limited to me.

50 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

Smell of gas developed around vehicle at all times. Had it looked at and nothing was found. Brought it to another shop and they dropped out the fuel tank, finding the top of the tank wet with fuel and the connection rusted. The solution was to replace the fuel pump and parts.

52 Fuel Pump problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

There is a very bad gas smell coming from my 2002 Trailblazer. From what I'm led to believe it's the gas tank and the fuel pump. I have not had it replaced as of yet but I'm sure I going to have to at my expense. I think it should have been a recall if it is an error on their behave. With all the complaints I'm finding on the internet I think it was something they may have missed.

53 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/12/2009

The fuel gauge on our 2006 chevy Trailblazer has failed along with the check engine light coming on resulting from numerous codes. The entire fuel pump/filter/sending unit has to be replaced and the vehicle wont pass and inspection without it. Gm needs to recall this vehicle for this problem and refund owners who have spent money fixing the problem.

54 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/15/2009

This seems to be a pervasive problem with recent models of chevy Trailblazers; the fuel gauge goes up and down erratically when the vehicle is either low on fuel or is recently filled up. Some sources indicate that the problem is with a faulty fuel pump sensor, which requires the gas tank to be removed and a sending unit sensor replaced. Faulty equipment should be recalled, and not left for the chance that the problem will happen while still under warranty.

55 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/09/2009

I am having problems with false readings with my fuel gauge. Like everyone else, I fill up my tank and the gas gauge reads empty, but after about 20 minutes it would read full. Now it reads full for 20 minutes and then starts to go down. I was told that is was a possible short in the wiring around the fuel pump. Great, a good way to start a fire!!. . I am a gm employee of 14 yrs and think this problem should be fixed and fixed now. Way too many people are having problems with this issue. . . . .

56 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/02/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel pump in the tank became hot enough to deteriorate the insulation on the wires. As a result, the fuel gate unit malfunctioned. The manufacturer stated that they would repair the failure at $350, which is half of the price they are charging. The failure and current mileages were 50,000.

57 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

I just bought my used 2006 chevy Trailblazer a few months ago, and almost immediately began having problems with my fuel gauge. Everytime I would fill up, the gauge would malfunction and read empty. The low fuel light would come on and the chime would alert for low fuel. Eventually, after driving several miles, the gauge would begin working correctly. However, the problem has gotten increasingly worse over the past few months. Sometimes the gauge would not correct itself at all, and often the check engine light would also come on. More recently the fuel gauge rarely corrects itself and I have to constantly keep track of my mileage and "guess" when I need a fill up. Upon researching this problem online, I've discovered that there are an alarmingly large number of gm owners who have experienced this same problem! supposedly, the repair requires a new fuel pump, sensor, etc. Of course, since the tank has to be dropped, this means a high labor rate as well. Most people report a cost of approx $800 to correct this problem! luckily, my vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, but with the outrageous number of owners with this issue, gm should be required to step up and take responsibility! a recall definitely seems to be in order!.

58 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/24/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving 55 mph, the contact was notified of a fuel leak by a fellow driver. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the gas tank was corroded. The gas tank was replaced at the cost of $1,000. The contact filed a report with the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were 65,000. Updated 08/15/08 the fuel pump module was replaced because it had rusted out. Updated 08/15/08.

59 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/18/2008

I have intermittent smell of fuel coming from vehicle; consistently declining mpg; ses light coming on; taken it to the dealership after having received a letter stating that there was a fuel tank or pump issue; they diagnosed that the filler neck was cracked a nd leaking but stated that it wasn't part of the repairs from the letter and said it would cost a $1000 to replace my fuel tnk and then they would replace the fuel pump module for free.

60 Fuel Pump problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/28/2008

The dealership that we bought our car from didn't want to fix our problem being that we didn't have and extra 1500 dollars to buy an extra warranty for the car about three weeks later after taking it off the lot at a store the car didn't come back on so we called and asked a mechanic what could be wrong and they let us know that it could be the fuel pump or some thing to do with the fuel lines so we took it in to get checked and it was the fuel pump and the fuel tank so we called the dealership and told them what happened and they told us that they would talk to the manager and see what they can do so then about two hours later they called back saying that they couldn't do nothing because of the fact that we didn't buy the extra 1500 dollar warranty so I told them that it wasn't even thirty day after we took the car off the lot and all they could say is that they were sorry we didn't get a (car fax report) like it says ion a display on the dealership entrance door we didn't get nothing they expected us to give them 1500dollars down payment and we had to use that money to fix the car and they didn't even care.

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Erratic fuel level readings on fuel gate. Once this started it was regular and would read full, empty, partially full regardless of actual fuel level. Replaced fuel pump module and level sensor. Old part is not still available. I am reporting this because I heard there is an investigation I had a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer extended 2wd we had no safety issues as we discovered it was not working and monitored miles driven to prevent running out of fuel.

64 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

I filled my gas tank on my 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext. And got a gas smell, shortly after the check engine light came on. There is a leak in the fill and fuel pump area I guess. I was referred to see if there were any recalls for this defect and came across this. The garage did a temp. Repair with silicon that only lasted 3 weeks. Now the same thing is happening. I would have to change the entire gas tank to fix this issue.

Failure Date: 04/10/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet trail blazer. The contact stated that the fuel level gauge indicated that there was one quarter gasoline in the fuel tank yet the vehicle stalled due to there being no fuel in the vehicle. The dealer advised that the fuel sensor and fuel pump would need replacing. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage 80,000.

66 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/18/2008

Fuel leak from the fuel pump module in my 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. I recently had the fuel tank replaced because of a vapor leak causing the check engine warning light to activate. When I picked up the vehicle I detected a strong gasoline smell and was just now told that the top of the fuel pump module was badly corroded with gas leaking through it. Warranty will not cover the replacement as the module is still working. This is either a faulty design, or substandard materials are being used for this part as this vehicle is not all that old, and this condition is presenting a serious hazard with the gas and gas vapors leaking from the fuel tank.

67 Fuel Pump problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/15/2008

The fuel pump sending unit on my 2003 chevy Trailblazer developed corrosion and leaked fuel from the unit. The cost of the repair was $592.
