2 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/28/2012

I came out to my vehicle today, unlocked the door with the keyless remote but the driver's door was unresponsive. Upon starting the vehicle I realized the windows don't work on the driver's side as well. I removed the driver door control module to find a burn mark internally on the door as well as burnt plastic on the door module itself. The window and lock worked fine the night before so I'm concerned with the short circuit occurring over night without a key in the ignition.

3 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/03/2012

We were on vacation and we were getting ready to leave and we tried to unlock doors to enter vehicle and all doors except the driver door unlocked. A passenger leaned over to unlock the driver door and hit the driver window down switch. The key was not in the ignition. A burning smell was noticed and the driver door was completely dead. We were able to open the door and drive the vehicle. When I returned home I popped out the driver door module and noticed that the plastic case was melted. I opened the unit and noticed that a wiring harness connecting the 2 printed circuit boards was completely burned. Luckily this did not cause a major fire.

5 Ignition Module problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/25/2012

While driving, my headlights will intermittently turn off on their own. This does not happen frequently but has occurred several times per month for about 3 months duration. I had experienced this same event about 6 times before contacting gm directly. I contacted gm directly due to the fact that I consider this problem to be a safety issue. This vehicle is equipped with automatic headlights which turn on when darkness is detected. This automatic activation cannot be overridden with manual controls when the headlights turn off unexpectedly. I attempted to pull over and manually turn the headlights back on without resolution. I attempted to turn off the vehicle's ignition and restart the engine without resolution. Nothing I could do would make the headlights turn back on. The headlights seem to have a mind of their own and will eventually turn back on but this is completely random, sometimes taking a few minutes or maybe up to 20 minutes. A certified gm service center claimed the issue to be with the body control module and provided an estimate for replacement. I elected to not have the dealer replace the body control module for a significant amount of money. I instead started searching for another solution. I turned to the internet and found that this same issue has been reported on this make of vehicle since at least 2002 continuing until the late 2000's. Gm informed me over the phone that they had not heard of this issue before. The certified gm service center claimed that they have not heard of this issue before. A simple google search will tell you a different story. I ultimately followed the direction of a youtube video which directed me to replace a relay located on the vehicle's fuse plate. The cost of the part was approximately $30. My headlights are working again. In my opinion gm should issue a recall for this part and not the body control module.

6 Ignition Module problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

Power window control on the passenger door started on fire and melted some of the door panel and window control module and wiring harness. The vehicle has the heated seat buttons on the window control module. (p/n 15096223). The vehicle had been parked in front of the house (no keys in ignition) when the window started going up and down by itself and smoke started flowing out. Completely melted the front 4pin connecter and wiring harness I still have the melted part if needed for anything. I found it interesting that you have now opened up an investigation on 2006-2007 models on the drivers door. I had did a few internet searches looking for recalls or such. Did find a couple post where similar things had happened to others where others had stated having to do with water coming in the window and shorting the switch (if this helps) thanks.

8 Ignition Module problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

Check engine lightstarted coming on, then the stabil-trax and the engine deceleration light started coming on. When this started, the engine would shut down every time the lights came on. At first it was at intervals of 40 to 140 miles. Whenever the engine first started this, you could shut the ignition off for 1-2 min. , then the vehicle could be started and driven until the lights came on. Dotson Chevrolet, in big sonne gap, va. ( where we bought vehicle), has had the vehicle off and on for 6 weeks. They have changed the sending unit in the fuel tank, and the pcm module on the engine so far. As of today, 10-19-09 the vehicle is now shutting down at 8-10 miles. They say they are still checking , but now they are thinking the problem may be in the wiring. So far, we have luckily been driving in light traffic, where we were able to get out traffic to the side of the road, without any problem. If this problem occurs on the interstate of in heavy traffic , it could cause a serious accident. The dealer says the have been in contact with gm about the problem. I would have thought that gm would have tech people, of engineers that would know why the codes and lights don't correspond when this occurs, or would have some idea what might cause such a problem.

10 Ignition Module problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/12/2008

I approached a stop light. As I stopped, the whole car shut down. I turned the ignition "off", put the car in "park", and turned the "ignition switch" to restart the vehicle. It did start. A couple days later the same thing happened. I took it to my dealer on sept. 15 2008. They asked if I had a lot of stuff hanging on the key ring, I did not. They replaced the ignition switch. On Jan. 21, 2011 , I was driving, and, after stopping, the car was running but would not engage (move). Had the car towed to dealership. They again replaced the ignition switch and another switch. On Feb. 11, 2011, I was at a "drive-up" window, my car just quit running. I had to push it off to the side and have it towed to the dealer. This time they again replaced the "ignition switch" along with a transfer case switch and a transfer case module. They said they had to replace all of them since there was no way to know for sure if it was still related to the "ignition switch". I feel all my issues were relate to the "ignition switch", and all repairs should have been paid by gm. They new they had an issue, or the dealer would not have asked about "excess weight hanging on the key fob". . I believe the "ignition switch issue" goes back farther, and affects even more models, than they are currently owning up to. I still have all paperwork pertaining to my repairs.

11 Ignition Module problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/03/2006

I purchased a 2005 chevy Trailblazer less than a year ago. Since that time the vehicle has been in the service center four different times. Each time the vehicle has failed to start. The dealer states that the rear hatch module continues to short out. This module causes the entire vehicle to short out. I have expressed my concerns with the safety of this vehicle with the dealer and have not gotten anywhere. I an a single mother of a two year old. I am only interested in the safety of my child. Jack schmitt Chevrolet of o'fallon illinois will not stand behind the vehicle that they sold or admit that there is a problem. The last time I brought my vehicle in for this problem they told me that it was the ignition. When I came to pick up the vehicle after they had "fixed" it, the vehicle would not start. They admitted that it was in fact the rear hatch module again and that they had made an educated guess the first time in order to save time. I would like someone to hold this dealership responsible for the defect in this car and to stop giving consumers the run around.

12 Ignition Module problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/27/2005

Purchased 2005 Trailblazer 3/8/05 @ bacon Chevrolet in palestine,TX. Problems: while driving headlight & interior dashboard lights flicker & shut off, engine loses power & surges lunging forward, battery gauge drops & pegs out, check engine light comes on, ding alarm, radio, electric locks, etc, w/ no key in ignition go off & on, no power cant start vehicle. Svc mgr/tech comments: cant duplicate complaint, no codes showing, gm bulletin stating "normal" & working as designed, can not replace or work on anymore due to tech/gm motors stating "normal", or until problem can be duplicated or until they have a way to fix. Repairs:(total of 9 times in shop) 2 headlamp switches, 1 battery, 3 times wiring harness gone through, numerous pcm updates/reprograms, fuel pressure check, ipc reprogram, data recorder installed, replaced bcm body control module, workorders have been altered & work stated done that has not been done. I have all my workorders. Conclusion: took to bbb of tyler,TX. Cs#chv0592738, had arbitration hearing. Bbb's decision was that their opinion was that the lights going off while driving was not a safety issue. Thought the bbb was suppose to be a consumer advocate! I found this website while doing a college research paper. How many other consumers have same problem, but do not know about this website. Will anything be done before someone is killed or is that what it will take!.

13 Ignition Module problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/17/2004

The check engine light and the reduced engine power light came on the first time and the truck had no acceleration. There was a code recorded when service was performed and pcm was reprogrammed. The next 3 times the check engine light came on and the truck would only accelerate if the rpm's reved up to 2, then the truck would move very slowly. The problem they found this time was a faulty ingition switch (2 times) a program upgrade of the motherboard of the truck, and the tork converter clutch module. Windshield wiper blades stopped working during a snow/rain storm.
