37 Ignition Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

Sir/ MA'am, I noticed recently in the news that several gm product lines have been plagued by faulty ignition switches causing the vehicle to lose power and/or cut out. I implore you to look into the Trailblazers. I emailed gm while I was deployed (2012) and they gave me the runaround saying that it is not a documented problem, as expected. A simple internet search would show that a lot of other Trailblazer owners have bad ignition switches/ electrical issues that cause the vehicle to lose power at all speeds. My wife lost power going about 35 mph and I had my two children along with her. This is just one example, on one occasion. Granted, I do acknowledge this problem is intermittent, it still occurs at random and at all speeds. Gm tells me to go to a dealer and have them look at it. I refuse to pay gm any money to have a dealership rip me off for an ignition switch that is flawed and replace it with the same faulty oem style/model number. I have ran a scan tool looking for codes and it doesn't have any. Like stated previously, this is another line of gm that is plagued with ignition and electrical issues that gm refuses to take ownership of. The mileage I have entered is approximate. I cannot remember exact numbers, but it has happened for years, intermittently. When the vehicle has coasted to it's final destination after losing power, it starts up and drives normal again after it is put back into park. Also keep in mind that it doesn't show any check engine lights, indicating a problem or need of servicing. Again, please look into this product line as I know the result(s) will show that gm is liable and I don't want any fatalities because nobody spoke up about it.

38 Ignition Switch problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

Car has a delay in starting. Starts to turn over, but sounds like its trying too hard. Once started the clock resets to 1200 and the check engine light was on. When the dealership checked for a code the only thing that came up had to do with the gas cap not being on tight. It has been happening with more frequency regardless of how tight the gas cap is. Check engine light is no longer coming on. Battery gauge is where it should be once it starts and does not drain. Wondering if it could possible be a faulty ignition switch, but the dealership won't attempt a fix as they cannot get the problem to duplicate.

39 Ignition Switch problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/07/2012

I have had to have the ignition switch changed 3x in a year due to it failing. My vehicle has stalled out, will not start, and my dashboard lights, head lights also start acting up right before the ignition switch starts acting up. If I wiggle the key, sometimes that will get it to start, sometimes not. I have seen tons of complaints about this same issue with other Trailblazers in the same year when I went online to forums to see if anyone else is having the same issues with their Trailblazers. Someone needs to look into these vehicles also as part of the gm recall. I will get it fixed and it will be ok for a bit, then the same thing starts all over again. I saw on the tv lastnight the special about gm and the ignition switches, and this is exactly the same thing my Trailblazer does. Please, I hope someone will look into this. I'm sure that if you put something out there about the "06 Chevrolet Trailblazers you would get numerous complaints like mine. Thank you.

43 Ignition Switch problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/11/2011

The first incident happened as I was in line behind a car at a stop sign, the vehicle just cut off and smoke started coming from the steering wheel. I tried to start it up again but it wouldn't start and was stuck in drive. It was towed and identified as the ignition switch burned. This was back in 2011. Since then, I have had the same problem and replaced the ignition switch four times. The vehicle just stalls and cuts out whenever wherever which is dangerous. I just replaced this ignition switch last year as the vehicle cut off in the loading zone of my job and would not start resulting in it having to be towed. It's 2015 and the same issue is happening again so this has to be a recall or defect on this particular vehicle if not others.

46 Ignition Switch problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/09/2010

2006 chevy trail blazer with approximately 75,000 miles on it. About a year ago the vehicle died on me while at a stop sign. All the icons in the dash board lit up and engine alarms went off before it died. I tried to restart, but nothing happened. Also the key locked in the ignition. A good samaritan gave me a jump start and I made my way home. I drove it to the dealership and they replaced the ignition switch. A month has gone by and the problem started all over again. This time, I turned the key in the ignition and nothing happened. 5 seconds later on it's own the vehicle cranked over as I was about to step out of the car. I continued driving the vehicle for another week with no problems. This week is another story, it started all over again. I have read blogs online with many chevy Trailblazer owners having the same problems. As of right now my vehicle is at the dealership for the third time this year. All they can say is that I have a dead cell in my battery. Of course a month ago, they said my battery was good. My brother inlaw also owns a chevy Trailblazer and has the same problem. Can someone please investigate I'm running out patients and money. Not to mention a safety issue being stranded on the side of the highway.

47 Ignition Switch problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

I have a 2004 chevy Trailblazer; while driving on the highway; all guages, lights, etc. Abruptly stopped working and continue to not work. I researched on line and found it could be what is called the "cluster board". I took my vehicle to a local chevy dealer in daytona beach FL. They insisted it was the ignition switch. They replaced that mechanism for just under $300. The following week (this occurred in 2010); the exact same situation recurred; so I brought it back to the dealer and they then agreed it was the cluster board which would now cost me close to $700. 00. In order to avoid being ripped off to the tune of almost $1k; I purchased a gps unit so I could at least monitor my speed. The speed/rpms never register correctly; however, so far the other guages seems to be ok (except for the oil pressure, it goes out of whack frequently so I just bring it in quickly to make sure I have sufficient oil and that it's clear/clean). Most recently my headlights just go out without warning; I am able to use the high beams, but of course that puts me in jeopardy of getting a ticket. There are so many complaints on the 2004 chevy Trailblazer - I do not understand why there has not been a recall on the cluster board and the electrical issues (lighting). I cannot afford to have all the repairs completed and would like to see Chevrolet take on some responsibility for the cost of these flaws in the manufacturing of this vehicle.

48 Ignition Switch problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/25/2010

While driving on 96 freeway, my SUV shut off without warning. Ever since then it continued to shut off at random times. Had the ignition switch replace and would like to be refunded for the repairs. 50 Ignition Switch problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/26/2009

Last Dec I was driving and my tachometer began reading higher than expected. When I turned off the vehicle to refuel, the tachometer continued to read ~3000 rpm. My vehicle had approx. 38k miles on it at the time. I researched this symptom and found this is a common problem that was addressed by a recall on other gm vehicles using the same instrument clusters. One solution is to remove a fuse and then turn on the ignition switch. This resets the cluster. However, this is temporary and the problem soon returns. According to numerous internet forums, it is only a matter of time until more critical instruments (speedometer, fuel gauge, etc. ) exhibit the same erratic symptoms.

52 Ignition Switch problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/15/2008

My 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext has the same problems all the other Trailblazers have. Poor design and subpar manufacturing of parts in foreign countries have resulted in electrical problems that cannot be fixed. Gauges and lights randomly going crazy, heat and a/c may or may not operate, vehicle may or may not start, key may or may not release from ignition. Ignition switch has been replaced multiple times in last two years and often brand new ignitions straight out of the box from the dealer parts department are no good. As other gm vehicles with the same exact problems have been recalled one would think Trailblazer owners should deserve the same courtesy. Clearly gm disagrees. I guess when you know uncle sam will always be there to bail you out you can do what you want and still sleep good at night. I wouldnt know . As the parent of four children this is a serious safety issue with me. I can no longer drive it as I know it is not dependable.

53 Ignition Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/10/2008

About 2 weeks ago, my 05 Trailblazer began having "no start" problems. Sometimes it would start and sometimes not. During times it would not start, I could not shift it out of park. If I turn the key off and back on again it would start. But I took it to the dealership to find out what was going on, and of course, they could not duplicate the problem. So I continued driving it with this off and on problem for 2 weeks until one day I was driving on the interstate with my son, mother and father in the vehicle. All of a sudden the motor just killed! luckily there was no one behind me and I was able to pull over to the side of the road. As I was pulling over though it was difficult because the power brakes and power steering were lost. My son was very upset and nervous. This time at the dealership they confirmed it was the ignition switch. This is the second time replacing it since buying the vehicle new. Even the technician admitted that Trailblazers have alot of trouble with ignition switches but said there is no recall because it's not a "safety issue". So my engine dying while I'm traveling 70mph on the interstate with family in the vehicle poses no safety issue? I feel that Chevrolet should issue a recall and reimburse me for my costs as my warranty is expired. By the way, other problems I've had with this vehicle include the idler pulley, brake lights going bad and melting into the terminal, speedometer malfunction, cd player broken, glue around license plate frame oozing and melting, broken latch on storage compartment in between front seats, faulty thermostat causing engine light to come on, and problems with the back hatch door. Next vehicle I buy will be a reliable Toyota or Nissan. Can't wait to get rid of this chevy.

58 Ignition Switch problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 08/19/2006

I bought an 05 Trailblazer ext I have had it 9 months , I went to start it and it would not turn over nothing, it was also stuck in the park position, dealership said I had a bad battery, I had it checked through auto zone was fine , had it towed the tow truck driver got it out of park and was able to start it. The dealership proceeded to say it was the battery so they changed it. I picked it up brought it home and parked in the driveway like before. The next morning it would not start again had it towed to the dealership with it stuck in park again, they now have said that the ignition switch was bad , which would cause it not to start and be stuck in park, so I guess we will see if it is fixed or if it will go back for the third time in one week.

59 Ignition Switch problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/14/2006

I realized the problems when pulling out of a parking lot into the street, the truck came to a sudden stop and I couldn't get the engine to turn. At the same time I noticed all gauges on the dashboard started blinking and going back and forth. Luckily I was not around a lot of cars and I was able to get the car started after 10 minutes. However, what if I was driving in a heavily traveled highway? would I still be alive to make this complaint? a very much concerned Chevrolet owner.

66 Ignition Switch problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/28/2003

My 11-month old 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer has had multiple quality problems, twice affecting my safety. Most of the problems have been electrical in nature. The 4wd has become inoperable numerous times, once while driving in snow. In another incident during a severe thunderstorm at night the air conditioner (a/c) failed and I was unable to defrost my windshield in order to see. After one dealer failed to diagnose the 4wd problem, another dealer replaced my ignition switch because the technician said I had no power at all going to the "rear grid. " I continue to have intermittent electrical problems, including near stalling at a traffic light, and ongoing 4wd failures. The car also has very jerky motion when in 4wd reverse, of course, when the 4wd is working at all. The dealer told me that was normal and now I see there is a service bulletin on the problem.

67 Ignition Switch problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/01/2002

Gm ignition switch recall needs to be expanded. My mother purchased a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer new. Approximately 5,000 miles into ownership, the car would "drop" various electrical components while driving down the road. For instance, while driving, the engine would continue to run, but the wipers would stop working, hvac would turn off, air bag and abs warning lights would illuminate, etc. Dealer had no idea how to fix. Eventually they replaced the ignition switch and the problem was solved. To my knowledge, gm never issued a recall, but I'm sure the issue is not isolated. These switches were unreliable across several vehicle lines, please investigate gmt 360 platform well.
