When I moved over to avoid the pickup both side airbags went off with a bang filling car with powdery cloud. My left ear popped from the loud bang but I was able to get off on the shoulder. Called 911 and CA highway patrol came out and did a report. Both officers had never seen anything like it. There was no impact to the car and the chp took multiple pictures of the exterior. Milage on the car at time of accident was 117,873 . Chp cutaway the airbags and my father came out and drove it home and then to auto shop to evaluate. Seat belt also stopped working now that airbags deployed. Really terrifying experience.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/09/2016

My husband was driving about 40 mph on a country paved road when his side airbags went off. His radio and lights started flashing. He was able to get home the mile or so, parked the car and shut it off. When he went to start it the next day nothing worked. He was startled by this happening and was lucky he didn't cause an accident or get hurt. He could have caused an accident very easily due to the visibility. Not sure what caused this to happen. - unknown the vehicle was taken to a chevy dealer but they were not able to diagnosis it so at this point we are not aware of exactly all that was effected with the vehicle. I have attached the denial from our insurance.

Our side airbags deployed without us hitting anything. There was no pothole or any curb or anything obstructing our path. We were just driving along and the airbags deployed all on their own. Why has the 2007 chevy Trailblazer not been recalled. We spent $8,000 getting the car repaired.

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

During a left hand turn, the side airbags and front seatbelt deployed for no reason. After a complete diagnostic by gm they concluded the computer sensed a rollover and the air bags were deployed on command. Problem is that the tilt of the vehicle did not reach or exceed 20 degrees (only 2 degrees) and therefore the system should not have deployed. This was verified by gm's own report yet they denied anything was wrong.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

While I was driving down the road, both curtain side air bags deployed at same time. There were no other cars on the road, so I was able to stop the vehicle without causing an accident. The airbag on the driver side pushed me over so hard that it broke my center console. My lower back still hurts, but I am hoping the pain will go away. My left ear is still ringing and has not returned to normal hearing yet caused from the exploding noise from the airbag deployment. Both of the front seat belts will not work and the dashboard has so many lights going off, I don't know if there are any other problems. The dealership that I purchased the vehicle from said the damages could run as much as $4000. 00 which I do not have and my insurance doesn't cover this since there was no accident that caused this. The dealership service dept. Also said they have never heard of any vehicles doing this. After research, I see that this has happened alot.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

The incident happened early in the morning on the way to work. As I was driving, I came to a red light and made my right hand turn like I always do. I started driving down the road, and my side airbags deployed on both sides. It scared me & my daughter so bad, and it caused me to swerve and hit the curb on the left side. Luckily there were no cars around me. I don't know why they deployed like they did. This is very dangerous!! it needs to be looked into by the factory!!!!!.

19 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

On may 24, 2012- I was traveling out our mile long gravel driveway. Half way down the driveway the side curtain airbags on both sides deployed. There was no crash- they just came out. I contacted gm. They finally sent out a 3rd party investigator to investigate the vehicle. They determined that the vehicle had a roll-over event. The vehicle did not roll-over. Gm told me that it was an insurance issue. Insurance company says it is a mechanical issue and was gm's problem to fix. At this time the vehicle still sits with both side airbags out and the front driver and passenger seatbelts are locked in place. Vehicle is not drivable.

23 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 01/19/2011

Airbags didn't depoly and roof caved.

24 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 12/08/2010

I took a left turn with my 2005 chevy Trailblazer ext. And fishtailed on some ice and my side airbags deployed. I have read several other complaints about this on the internet and gm has told those people that the black box said that the airbag system anticipated a rollover and they have not paid to have the damage fixed. I have told gm this has happened and am waiting to hear back from them but am expecting the same verdict that everyone else has received. I don't see how fishtailing on wet pavement, ice, or in some instances or around something can cause airbags to deploy. I have airbags that need to be replaced, the interior roof needs to be replaced, and the seat belts are all locked up and can't be used.

25 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 10/24/2010

The 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer I have owned since I purchased it brand new in 2003 was involved in an accident on 10/24/2010. My kids were driving when another vehicle sideswiped them, causing them to leave the road. When they reentered the road, the vehicle hit them again causing the Trailblazer to flip over a guardrail and rollover several times; landing on its roof. There were four vehicle occupants (including the driver). Neither driver, passenger side nor side airbags deployed during the accident.

27 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 09/09/2009

After our battery manifested a dead cell for the second time in 3 years I decided to do online research to see if any other 2006 Trailblazer owners had similar issues. I found a recall NHTSA campaign number 06v417000 concerning passenger side airbag sensor and aftermarket leather upgrade I contacted gm only to be told our VIN was not part of the recall. I proceeded to ask how a VIN could tell if we had aftermarket leather added by the dealer they said our VIN was not part of the recall nothing more. After calling another dealer I learned the 794 SUV's had the leather upgrades done by gm, not the dealers who sent them out to get leather installed. The remedy for the vehicles gm upgraded was gm purchased them back as no aftermarket leather was or is available that is compatible with the sensor in the passenger seat for the airbag. If this is such a safety concern why weren't the other Trailblazer owners who got aftermarket leather from the dealer notified of this are they liable shouldn't we get a notice of the safety concerns as well? still looking for answers and a resolution what can I do to make my vehicle safe for the front passenger??.

28 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

I was driving down a curvy road. I looked away from the road for a second and when I looked back to the road I was slightly veering off. I overcorrected the car to my left and corrected back to the right. Once I was back straight again-the side impact airbags deployed. This all happened very quick. I was traveling about 35-40 mph. There was no damage to the vehicle, I did not hit anything and there was no collision. There was only one other passenger in the car and no one was hurt. I called the insurance company who declined the claim since there was no collision or property damage. They attributed the crash to overly sensitive yaw sensors. The insurance company told me they have seen similar occurrences that they attributed to the yaw sensor. I made a claim with Chevrolet, the manufacturer, of my vehicle. Chevrolet sent out a 3rd party engineer/inspector to look at and diagnose the vehicle. The engineer's report said that the vehicle was preparing for a roll over and acted as it was supposed to so there was no mechanical malfunctions. Nothing has been done to correct this situation. The airbags on the vehicle have not been replaced. Chevrolet says the car has no mechanical defect and the insurance company says there was no collision or anything to attribute to why the airbags deployed, other than the airbags being too sensitive.

29 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 05/11/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving 45 mph, both side air bags deployed without an impact or crash occurring. The contact swerved on the highway, but managed to drive the vehicle to the dealer, where it is currently being inspected by the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were 74,000.

30 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 04/23/2009

The side curtain airbags deployed without cause on our 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, causing interior damage.

31 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/27/2009

Was driving on highway at approximately 65mph when we were cut off by another vehicle. We drove off onto the shoulder to avoid the accident and started to slid sideways. As we corrected the vehicle we entered upon the pavement and corrected the sliding vehicle and was continuing to drive straight for about 3 seconds when the side airbag deployed. Tgere was no collision nor was the corrective move so erratic as to tip the vehicle.

32 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

This complaint is in conjunction with my false and delayed side curtain airbag deployment, report date of March 25, 2009. I just discovered that both front seat belt systems must be replaced. The drivers side seat belt is limp. The passenger side seat belt is so tight it not only broke top of the belt housing on top of the seat (pieces), the belt is so tight it is deforming the seat. I cant imagine what this would have done to a passenger, had I have had one in that seat.

33 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Side window airbag deployment, deployed virtually seconds after I made a sudden abrupt maneuver (in avoidance of another vehicle). I was normally proceeding straight down the roadway at the time of deployment. The passenger airbag deployed rapidly and at the same time the drivers side deployed very slowly as if in slow motion. In an attempt to see to turn left I contacted a curb and resulting in a flat tire (right front). These air bags should not have deployed and especially moments after my maneuver. G. M. Has concluded that I experienced a near rollover situation, and that all sensors functioned normally. G. M. Has declined any assistance on the airbag and headliner (as a result of deployment) replacement, that is the only existing damage to the vehicle with 1066 miles on it. The vehicle is sitting at the dealer with its estimate of $4000. 00 to reset all. I am sure that there is a high possibility that this will re-occur. Nobody can or will answer or address my questions and concerns that there is something wrong with the system in this vehicle that, not only erroneously activated, but substantially late in the mater of any sudden movement. I am considering canceling my extended warranty as I may not own this vehicle through the course of its manufacturers warranty as a result of this unnerving experience.

34 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Failure Date: 02/12/2009

I was operating my 2006 chevy Trailblazer when I slide on slippery pavement due to freezing rain. My vehicle began turning sideways then straightened out and bumped the left side curb parallel with my tires. Only the left side tires struck a 4" curb. Both right and left side curtain air bags deployed. The left one hit me in the side of the face and left shoulder. The impact with the curb could not have been at more than 10 mph. There is no damage done to my vehicle, the step bars, mud flaps and/or even a scuff mark on either of my tires. No one else was in the vehicle with me. Thank goodness my 1 yr old and 8 yr old daughters were not. This air bag deployment would have caused injuries to my daughters not a bump to a 4" curb. I have been driving for over 17 years and have only have one accident. I drive for a living and now I am terrified to take my girls in my vehicle. My car is not fixed and I have requested gm to do an inspection on the vehicle. Time will tell but I believe in safety but not in the name of failure.

35 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving 30 mph, all of the side air bags deployed without a crash or impact. The vehicle was towed to the Chevrolet dealer and the diagnostic indicated that the vehicle was in a rollover state. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The vehicle was in good condition. The contact sustained minor injuries to the neck from the air bags burning her skin. The failure and current mileages were 26,000. Updated 12/30/08 updated 01/02/09.
