Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have reported 11 problems related to transmission slip out of gear (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Automatic drive shift linkage disconnected due to failure of what appears to be a small plastic rivet that held the linkage components together. Transmission could not be shifted out of drive, not even to neutral. Could only stop car by coming to a complete stop with the brakes, turning off the ignition key, and then applying the emergency brake. Called dealer and then tow truck. When the tower arrived, he looked at the make/model of the vehicle and as I described what had happened he said he knew what the problem was because he had picked up 6 of the same vehicle in the last 2-3 months for the same problem. When he checked, he was correct, the linkage had become disconnected due to a broken plastic rivet.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission shifted out of gear and the anti-theft lock and battery warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also mentioned that the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading when the fuel tank was full. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

Driving from out of town and all of the sudden rps ran high and trans would not shift. It would catch finally and then slip out had to drive it in 1st gear. Had it rebuilt lasted 1 yr and now back in shop! having it rebuit again. Very frustrated with this vehicle. I have had to replace just about everything on it at least once some things twice. Very poor made vehicle. Please look into the transmission problems. Mechanic states it is a known fact that the transmissions in Trailblazers overheat which causes these issues. How can gm sleep at night knowing they are charging 36000. 00 for a piece of junk! I have to work hard for my money and don't appreciate the way gm turns a deaf ear to their poor workmanship and design. I feel I should be compensated for the frustration!.
Acceleration sluggish at first. Then the rpm's would increase without any acceleration. Finally, would not shift out of 2nd gear and if went above 30 the rpm's would increase without anymore power to the whells. Found a transmission hose blown also.

On 04-06-2009 at 10:30 am I was driving south on MD rt. 4 . The transmission then slipped out of gear while decelerating. Followed by a loud grinding noise, my rpm's raced and then slammed into gear almost causing a serious accident.
I started to do a 3 point turn and when I went to put my vehicle in reverse, there was a loud clunk and I no longer had reverse and would make an awful sound when I tried. I could drive it forward, but it wouldn't shift out of low gear, driving the rpms way up. Had to have it towed. Took it to a gm dealership and they gave me the choice of a rebuild or replacing the transmission. I chose to replace because it would have a longer warranty. The warranty on this was 36000 miles. . . It had 42800. Currently conversing with gm to try and get them to cover some of the expense.
Transmission slips out of gear while in operation in all gears. On previous complaint I stated that repair was costly. At this point tech. Says that small "o" ring clip did $2,000. 00 in damage to sun gear, shell, and major drive gears and casing as well. This vehicle only has 51k mi. On it. We believe there was a situation of defective this vehicle was sold as a certified used at top dollar. Parts according to the tech.
2002 chevy Trailblazer, slips out of gear, 1,2,3,4. And slams back while in operation. Consulted dealer, dealer said no recalls available. This happened 3x's. We stopped driving vehicle. On second incident a qualified individual said that there are issues in the transmission. Dealer still said no bulletins on this vehicle at large. Dealer stated that I take the vehicle to the vendor in which they do business with for inspection. Vendor who is repairing vehicle claims a clip or spring slipped out somewhere destroyed come major parts and also the casing. I have asked vendor to hold all parts. So far this episode is very costly.
1) no special events. Normal operation, backed out of parking place, heard metal noise, now tranny has no reverse, and won't shift out of 1st gear. Vehicle was left there at that point for tow. 2) vehicle is now being towed and serviced by aamco transmission. After reading numerous online discussion boards, it's very apparent to me that gm knows there is a problem with the 4l65e transmissions failing, but refuse to do anything about it, in the form of a recall. My wife was driving, since this is her vehicle, but I'm thankful that hers failed in a parking lot. I read some discussions that should definitely be a true safety hazard. As in, when some of these transmissions fail, the wheels lock up, which makes you skid. This could be very dangerous, especially for those of us that live in snow country!.
2002 chevy Trailblazer, at 37k miles the transmission went out. Dealer repaired under warranty. At 60k miles, the exact same part on transmission went out again. Gm agreed to split repair at 50/50. The transmission went out while driving. I was stranded over 100 miles away from home. Now at 90k miles on the vehicle, the exact same part has gone out again. I was driving home from work when the transmission would not shift out of first gear. It was a hazard to myself traveling on a state highway with a speed limit of 55 and the car would not move past 30 mph. It will not go in reverse. Gm has said they will not do anything other than a 10% assistance to repair. I have read a number of other Trailblazer owner's complaints who have experienced the same issue. It seems to be a design default on the vehicle and gm does not want to look at it.
While driving at high speeds there is a vibrating sensation. Ts also, when starting engine, sometimes there is a higher than normal engine idle, and it won't idle down. When starting to drive idle is still high, but it wouldn't shift out of low gear. This happens intermittently.
