1 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2020

When turning at low speed, the vehicle loses power steering. At first this only happened occasionally and not it is happening more. It also gets worse if vehicles has been drove along that day. Check power steering fluid and it is full. This does not happen every time I turn but randomly when turning at low speed. Turning onto a road, at stoplight or into and out of parking spots. Happens with speeds between 5-20 mph.

2 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

2009 Chevrolet Traverse suddenly lost power steering when it reduced speed to turn on to highway on ramp. Stopped at the earliest opportunity to check power steering fluid. Topped off fluid but continued to have problem with random loss of power steering. Problem occurs now anytime that vehicle is not accelerating.

3 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2014

While traveling at slow speeds there is a complete loss of power steering. My wife was driving and nearly hit pedestrians because she lost power steering, it is nearly impossible to steer at low speeds, like parking and turning corners.

4 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

I have noticed noise in the steering column. The first 2 times I took it in for service the tech was unable to replicate the problem. The third time I took it in, they heard the noise and diagnosed a problem with the steering rack. I was told the rack needs to be replaced, and that if I did not replace the rack I would at some point lose power steering. If this occurs, I believe that it is possible that I could be involved in a collision. Since the problem was diagnosed, I have noticed a vibration in the steering column that seems to be getting worse. At this point, gm is not taking responsibility for this problem, although it is such a widespread problem that a class action lawsuit has been filed in the florida court system.

5 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2013

My wife is the primary driver of our 2009 Traverse. I was driving it about a week ago and noticed the power steering motor whining. We had an appointment for service on the 26th and I reported it to them. Basically at slow speeds when turning you could here the motor whining. They stated that the power steering pump needs to be replaced along with the rack due to leaking (which we hadn't noticed previously). The repair is estimated at $1800. I have read where people have lost their power steering riding down the road, that hasn't happened to us, yet. .

6 Lose Power Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

Going around a corner on a highway at approx 55 miles per hour the handling of the car becam erratic and difficult to control and uncontrollably shifted into the left lane. I forced it to the side of the road and determined we lost power steering. Had to manhandle it to our repair shop. The mechanic replaced the power steering pump and bled the system. Still was not right. Replaced the pump again and re-bled system. Still no better. Researched problem and found that we have to repalce the rack as well. Should not have to put this kind of money into a vehicle with 46,860 miles on it. Gm will do nothing. There is no way that my wife or my daughters could have safely got that car to the side of the road and they both drive the car. Have no decided to repair vehicle yet. Will be contacting the better business bureau. Amazing no one have had a serious or fatal accident yet.
