I just purchased my 0 9 Traverse and I have started hearing a squeaking noise coming from the steering wheel when turning as well as a squeaking noise coming from the brake pedal. I have taken the vehicle back to the dealership and they have told me that gm has not issued a fix for that problem and that it is common for the Traverses. I contacted gm and they just says that there is no fix for it. I have seen on line that they have changed some parts in the newer vehicles due to a manufacturer defect. They say that it is not a safety issue, but people are losing power steering and I don't want to one day not have ability to control the vehicle. This issue needs to be addressed and fixed!!.
It is difficult to steer and makes a noise when steering. Had the car in to the shop and he said power steering fluid is good and to contact the dealer because there are 1,000's of complaints regarding this same very dangerous safety issue. Called the dealer and they claim to have not heard of this issue. This car has had 6 recalls and now this very dangerous safety issue that had not been recalled. Gm needs to take care of this. I am afraid to even drive the vehicle because of the seriousness of this. Nor do I feel that the consumer should pay for the repairs when this is happening in 1000's of vehicles. It is obvious that there is yet another found problem with this vehicle. I am very disappointed in gm that they are not taking these complaints serious and fixing the vehicles.
While attempting to perform a left hand turn after receiving a green light, the steering wheel became extremely stiff. Continues to be a constant problem with a whining noise coming from steering wheel. Took to chevy dealer and they said rack "beginning to seap. " quoted me $1300 to fix but I believe there should be an investigation into this issue since so many other Traverse owners are experiencing the same problem.
2009 Traverse that will not turn!! no noise from the power steering pump, just driving along and all of a sudden the car will not turn!! this needs to be recalled!! this is ridiculous chevy won't cover this problem! researched online and there are hundreds of customers with this same problem!.
Loud thumping noise when turning the steering wheel. Sounded like something fell out of the front end of the car. Car dealership replaced rack and pinion and bled power steering and set toe. Found noise traced to internal rack failure which caused clunk when turned back and forth. Repaired 3/2011.
When my vehicle was 2 years old and had approximately 35,900 miles, I started hearing a low whining noise in the steering column whenever the steering wheel was turned. The intermittent noise continued, so I had the vehicle serviced on 2/18/11 with mileage of 36,379. The dealership was unable to duplicate the noise. The noise continued getting worse; became louder and constant. I had the vehicle serviced on 8/24/11 with mileage of 44,248. The dealership determined the steering gear was failing and needed replacement. Since the vehicle was no longer under warranty, I had to pay $1212. 80. It's very disheartening to have a repair of this magnitude on a 2 year old vehicle with low mileage. I purchased this Traverse brand new to avoid the costly repairs of older vehicles. Apparently, I made a bad decision. This vehicle has already had 3 safety recalls and the steering gear should be made the 4th.
