1 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

Stabilitrak/traction control problems I am the owner of this vehicle that has 165,000+ miles on it. We have repaired/replaced about $6900: in 2017 evap purge valve, in 2017 upper coolant hose, 2016 water pump gasket, timing chain, 2014 catalytic converter and gaskets, 2014 water pump and front motor mount, in 2009 reverse clutch plate. Now the stability trac and traction lights both came on stating to service the brake system when you are in motion and come to a stop. Plus today, the ac does not come now. One vehicle with one owner should not have this many problems. Chevy has got to issue a recall on this 2009 model. Class action lawsuit, something needs to be done.

2 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the vehicle had no specific failures other than failing an inspection. The contact called a dealer (lannan Chevrolet, 40 winn st, woburn, MA 01801, (781) 897-0508) to inspect and diagnose the failure. The manufacturer did not send a notification of any extended warranty campaigns; however, the vehicle was included in a water pump seal leak, power steering, transmission, and additional service campaigns. After the dealer's repairs, the vehicle was rode roughly and the engine indicator illuminated two days later. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer who indicated that further diagnostic testing was required. The vehicle had been at the dealer for longer than two weeks with no resolution. The manufacturer was notified and refused to provide a remedy for the several extended warranty campaigns, of which some were not completed, but the dealer specified on the invoice that the vehicle was serviced. The vehicle was not repaired and was unable to be driven. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

3 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2015

Took my car into dealership martin Chevrolet because check engine light came on. Since my car was new in 2009 my steering on my car has always been hard to turn. I asked them within a year of getting car but said nothing was wrong. Well the power steering water pump and steering gear assembly was leaking. Also my timing chain was defected. There was an extended warranty for the timing chain and pump but not the steering gear assembly. My car has less than 50,000 miles on it. Chevy knows that the steering has been defected but would not cover the gear assembly so it cost me $934. 19 to fix. Chevy should cover the cost for everything!!.

4 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2015

The steering wheel catches and I cant turn. I got the pump replaced and I am still having the same problem. Some people have had recall sent to them for this problem but I have not received anything.

5 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2015

While driving at low speed steering becomes difficult. It squealed often when turning corners and was very hard to turn. Took it to the dealer for repair and gm covered the water pump but needed a new steering rack which is unusual at 40k miles. Had to pay about $1400 out of pocket to cover the repair so I could safely drive the vehicle.

6 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

2009 Chevrolet Traverse steering will lock up at low speeds especially in parking lots and turning in town. Took to dealership and said it would need a power steering pump at a cost of 1200. 00. Seems to be a very common occurrence and I think gm should pay for some of this repair. Not very impressed with how they are avoiding not to share in some of the cost of this costly repair.

7 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

Power steering cut out at low speeds -- intermittent. Worked some days and other times it wouldn't had pump replaced.

8 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

Since back in April 2014 I started to notice that at time the wheel would be hard to turn when parking. I contact the dealer and they said that power steering was a known problem with the Traverse. Just recently it got so bad that I can't turn the wheel safely. When making a right turn the wheel locked and I rolled into the curve. When pulling out of the parking lot I had to give it some gas to get the wheel to try to turn and almost hit a person. When to trying to back the car because the wheel is so tight I almost hit someone again. I contacted gm and they said they would offer me cost assistance to get it fix. The dealer said they put all my information in some calculation system and it came back as the only cost assistance I qualified for is 100% participation on my part. I have to cost assistant to help myself pay the bill. I don't want to be responsible for hitting a person or another car because my wheel is locking because the power steering gear is leaking and need to be replace and now the power steering pump is bad. And they keep telling me this is a known issue and everyone has to pay for gm error.

9 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2014

I purchased a 2009 chevy Traverse new in March of 2009. The vehicle has approx 125,000 miles on it & is out of warranty. Recently the vehicle began to lose power assist in steering at low speeds making it nearly impossible to make a turn. I have been close to striking other vehicles and objects as I have tried to turn. This is intermittent & I never know when it is going to happen. This is a very, very dangerous issue & needs to be dealt with as there are several owners of this or similar gm vehicles that have the same problem, as indicated by the many internet forums related to this matter. Please, please look into this before people are injured or killed. I took the vehicle to a local repair shop, they say it needs a steering gear & pump at a cost of $1,629. 58, however, after reading some posts from others who have had the repairs completed, it does not appear this fixes the problem.

13 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

The rack and pinon on my Traverse is leaking. The mechanic said they had the same thing on a couple other 2009 Traverses that have come through their shop. This is a $1,000-$1,200 repair that is common for these vehicles at this mileage. This will also make the power steering pump go out and not be able to turn. Why hasn't this been recalled yet? this is something that needs to be looked into by the government/gm as to how many of these similar issues have been repaired by dealers. This needs to be a covered recall. Obvious weak workmanship of this part.

14 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2013

My 2009 Traverse lt1 has steering issues while turning at slow speeds. The steering gets extremely stiff, resulting in having to use incredible strength to complete the turn. I first noticed it when the car got over 40,000 miles. Took it to chevy service dealer and they stated it was a safety feature. I knew that false because I would have noticed it before 40,000. Now they're telling me they can't help me unless the car does it while in their care. But it happens randomly so that doesn't help, which also makes it that much more scarier. This is a well-documented issue among Traverse owners. Most owners have stated that chevy would have them repair the pump or rack, not covered by a warranty, costing $1200 plus, to only face this issue shortly thereafter.

The failure mileage was 50,000.

16 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

The power steering stops working when going at slow speeds. Diagnosed by dealership as power steering pump and gear leaking. It becomes nearly impossible to turn the steering wheel when parking or at times turning onto roads. Our neighbors just took theirs in for the same exact issue.

17 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, there was a sudden loss of power steering without warning. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times. The technician informed that the power steering pump would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they refused to repair the vehicle under the service warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

18 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2011

As we were driving along an on ramp to a highway as we reached 55mph the vehicle was sluggish and would "pull" constantly as we tried to accelerate all the way until we reached 65-70 mph. This started happening more and more frequently even while driving at lower speeds on city streets. Again getting that "pulling" or "bucking" sensation as we tried to accelerate. We took the vehicle to the dealership and they returned it stating they found no error codes and could not duplicate the problem. After another month of the same thing happening almost daily on every commute we took the vehicle in again to the dealership. This time they were able to duplicate the "issue" and said the cause of this problem was the motor mounts which they replaced. This made absolutely no sense and sure enough the vehicle still has the same issue to this very day. 2nd issue is the steering going completely out as you make turns going at slower speeds such as making a left hand turn or turning in to a parking space. As I started making a turn in to a parking space I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the car next to the empty space I was trying to go into because it felt like the "power steering" went out and could not turn the wheel at all. We have taken the vehicle to the dealership and power steering fluid and pump are working "fine" according to mechanics. I can not believe there has not been a recall on this issue since many Traverse owners have the same problem which is a major safety concern especially when we are talking about not being able to control a vehicle going around 25-30 mph in a parking lot or making turns in front of oncoming traffic (left turns). Please help with these issues.
