3 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2016

Power steering completely fails when making low speed turns (ex. Into a parking space, at an intersection. . . Etc. ). Steering gets very stiff that at times I cannot complete the turn. Have to stop and reverse to straighten out. Been very close to hitting vehicles because of it. From what I am researching, I understand this is a widespread problem with these vehicles. What I don't understand is why there hasn't been a recall to fix it. I guess the industry doesn't see it as big issue since they aren't the ones driving these cars and putting their own lives, family's lives and others on the road at risk. It's easy for them to say "fix it on your own" or "just buy another car". But for those who can't and depend on their vehicle day in and day out, it's a big problem. I would understand if it was normal wear and tear or if no one else was having these problems, but its not. It's a big problem all over the u. S. Fix it please !!!.

6 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2014

I wanted to highlight that I believe the Traverse 2009 model is a safety risk. Over the last couple of days on multiple occasions my power steering has completely stopped working at low speeds. It seems that at low speeds - I. E parking or changing direction at slow speeds, the power steering fails and becomes almost impossible to turn the wheels to change direction - I have been told by the dealer it is a steering pump fault that needs replacing and is out of warranty. This can potentially be very dangerous if I needed to change direction quickly - I. E moving out of the way of cars or children. Please raise this as a major concern.

7 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2014

On three seperate occasions the power steering has failed on the car. It has happened more noticibley during rain but at various speeds. The car was taken to the dealer after all occasions. The first time, the dealer said nothing was wrong. The second time dealer stated that the belt got wet. The third time we got irate with the dealer because this is an ongoing safety issue with our family car. The warranty was expired by the 3rd occasion, but dealer finally (after 2 days of arguing with them) replaced the steering pump, belts and pully to correct issue. This issue needs to be made a recall issue because it seems to be very common with this make and model year. According to jeff boyer, vice president of global vehicle safety at gm "with these safety recalls and lifetime warranties, we are going after every car that might have this problem, and we are going to make it right. Our issue is that the dealers nor the customer service at gm seem to want to make it right if the car is not on the list of current recalls. I guess they dont care until there are enough deaths involved.

10 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Power steering fails randomly and for no reason multiple times. Called gm and they had no response, said that there was no information that they could provide me other to say that there is not an open recall on my VIN for this, and basically refused to even make a record or note of the concerns so that it could be tracked to confirm that this is an issue for this vehicle.

11 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2014

Power steering failure while turning at low speeds. Problem is worse and occurs most when trying to park. You can be halfway through your turn into a parking space and all of a sudden power steering goes out. Have almost hit several parked cars just pulling into a parking space. Also happens when making low speed turns on the road. Very dangerous because you never know when the power steering will stop working. So far it has not happened at high speeds and hoping it never does.

12 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2014

I am having issues with the power steering failing on my Traverse. At low speeds the power steering seems to give out occasionally. This problem comes and goes, and it is extremely difficult to turn the wheel when this happens and am afraid of serious injury if involved in a crash because of this. Chevrolet seems to know there is a problem with this but will not cover it under any warranty.

13 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

When I attempted to turn onto a busy street with my wife's 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, the power steering failed and I nearly broadsided another vehicle. Fortunately I was able to stop before a collision occurred. When I got home I checked the power steering fluid and it was just under the max level. My wife said she has experienced the same thing when pulling into a parking space or just turning at slower speeds but it hasn't been consistent. Now in the last couple months the problem has become consistent. I have read many complaints online of the same problem with not only the Traverse but with GMC acadia's and Buick enclaves.

14 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

While driving my car the power steering abrubtly stopped working. I was coming up to a stop sign and the steering wheel became very hard to turn. It turned out that the power steering pump had failed. Luckily I was on a rural road with no traffic around me. I took it to the chevy dealer and they replaced the pump at a cost of $650. My concern is what would have happened if I was in busy traffic and the power steering unexpectedly stopped working? the outcome may have been a lot different. I have been on several chevy Traverse forums and I am amazed at how many owners have had the same issue with their vehicles. I would consider this a safety issue that gm should address especially in light of the recent recall they have issued recently on other models for the same problem.

Turning in dealer lot and steering became almost impossible to turn vehicle in desired direction. Almost hit a new car on lot as there was no warning power steering would fail. This has happened several times since. Seems like an accident waiting to happen. I doubt my wife would have been able to handle the vehicle in this incident. Gm dealer in carlsbad CA. Does not admit to any knowledge of the problem but goggle has hundreds of incidents.

24 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2011

I began noticing that my steering wheel would make a clicking noise. Then a while later, I began to notice it was increasingly harder to make sharp left/right turns into parking spaces. I took in my vehicle at 53,000 miles and they said the steering gear had failed. It took 2 days to repair and almost $1400. Then I'm driving the car less than a day and can't again turn into a parking space. I cranked the wheel with all my might to get it parked. I took my car back and they now say it's a power steering failure! why does a 2 1/2 yr old car have failing parts?!.
