Premature stretching of the timing chain. This is a documented and admitted defect by general motors for the 2009 model year Traverse vehicles, service bulletins 10287c - April 2012 and 11340a - may 2012. Our vehicle, which is labeled as an early 2010 model year vehicle (built in October 2009) was built in the same factory (spring hill, TN) and with the same components (3. 6l v6 engine) as the vehicles that were included in the bulletins but we did not receive the extended coverage. Our vehicle should be covered in the special program.
The steering rack on this vehicle went making it impossible to steer. This has been the case in many of these vehicles of this year. Prior years of this make and model have been recalled for the same issue but as of yet the 2010 has not. They replaced my steering pump and told me the rack was gone and would be 1700 to replace. The car cannot be driven as it is unsafe. The timing chain is also gone which is another issue with this make and model that Chevrolet is not dealing with. Although this does not render the vehicle unsafe it is overall a very badly designed vehicle. My major issue is the safety and read many many complaints on this make and model. I can no longer use the vehicle as it is unsafe to drive and a serious financial hardship. I bought this car in good faith according to the safety rating to transport my grandchildren and friends and it is now unsafe and unable to be driven. I am hoping for a recall of this vehicle as I have read that I am not the only one dealing with this situation. Thank you. Joan true.
Received engine code p0008 within 24 hours of purchasing used from russ darrow dealership.
My automatic transmission won't shift to higher gears when I accelerate. I have to pull over, come to a complete stop, shift the car into park and then back to drive. That somehow "resets" the transmission and the engine behaves normally after that. This happens almost daily. Frustrating thing is that mechanics have only been able to make it happen once. They say they are unable to id what's wrong. I don't understand that at all. I'm telling them exactly what's happening and they don't even know where to start. And the car's computer doesn't kick out an error message. This happens on all kinds of roads. My car won't shift out of 1st gear. If I don't pull over to "reset" the engine, I get a hot metal smell from the engine. Very frustrating. . . . The mechanics have no clue where to start looking. This has been happening for months. I've gone to multiple mechanics and they're all grasping at straws.
Timing change replaced 06/26/2017 cost me 2505. 34 dollars only had 72896 miles all I got from gm was sorry things do ware out case number #8-3782721557 light came on when driving on the highway.
While driving to work,I start hearing dings. I look at the dash and it tells me that my traction is off, to check my stabilitrack, and also the brake was on. Then all of the lights turned back off except the traction light. Now it feels as though my vehicle is being pulled backwards as I try to drive. Definitely a loss of power.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer (Chevrolet Cadillac of goldsboro) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: 8/3034264137. The contact was advised to call NHTSA to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving at an unknown speed, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (seidle Chevrolet located at 1141 e main st clarion, PA 16214 814-226-8300) where it was diagnosed that the timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 119,000.
At 88,000 mile I have recieved a p0008 code - timing chains. This is odd to have stretched timing chains at this mileage. Reviewing similar complaints on the internet, this seems to be a common problem with 3. 6 l engines made before 2011. I contact gm with no avail. Being such a common complaint by many why isn't gm standing behind this problem?.
I have 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. This car got a problem with engine. Timing chain is stretched out and engine runs rough with multiple misfires and noise. I took this car to diagnostic and dealer diagnosed and confirm existing problem with timing chain. After some investigation and research I found out that GMC extended a warranty till 10 years/120000 mi for 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. But they said that my car does not qualify for this recall because it's been made from different parts. This is not fair and not right. It doesn't matter from what parts was made engine in my car. The fact is that my car has the same problem as 2009 chevy Traverse what qualify for extended warranty. The issue with timing chain was never fixed on 2010 model year and many people have the same problem. I know that I'm not the only one who got this kind of situation. I'd like to resolve this problem before it will go to the court. GMC representative please contact with me to resolve it. Thanks, sergei zharkin.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving approximately 70 mph, the check engine and stabilitrac sensor indicators suddenly illuminated and the speed reduced to approximately 5 mph. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine had become damaged and would need to be replaced. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.
Engine light came on while diving at city speeds, took it to stewart Chevrolet and the said it was the p0008 and p0017 timing chain and crank camshaft. This is the 3rd time that this is occurring . 1st was at 60,929k and second was at 81,781k they want between $3,000 to $9,000 to repair and no guarantee that it won't occur at next 20k, gm are not standing by there product nor is steward.
The timing chain and the crank sensor.
My check-engine light came on while the vehicle was on a 300 mile trip, and the trouble codes at 2 different shops indicated that the timing chain had stretched and had to be replaced at 81,000 miles. Luckily, the vehicle did not breakdown on the highway. Prior to learning about similar problems in 2009 and some 2010 models, I had the chain replaced by a non gm mechanic. Since then I learned that gm has reimbursed or extended the warranty on select Traverse vehicles.
Not sure I should do this but it has occured 2 times bow. My Traverse eccelerator gets stuck down and you cant atop. The only way to stop is put in nutral if you have the time. I am afraid to have my wife deive this. It happened for the 2nd time since I have owned it the other day. The breaks wont worm unless you put it into nutral!!!.
The engine light came on and I took it to a shop, where they told me the codes indicate that your timing chain is stretched. There is a recall on this issue but does not cover the 2010 model. I was told that the issue had been corrected with better parts, but is having the same issue the 2007,2008, and 2009 model years.
I have an issue with the electrical system when the vehicle gets wet from rain or any kind of moisture I lose all warning chimes, blinkers on occasion, and the lights will flicker at times. Defective timing chains in a vehicle that was manufactured in 2009 where an extended warranty was issued for vehicles having faulty timing chains but since my vehicle was sold as a 2010 I don't qualify for the special extended warranty. While driving around a bend with the defective timing chain I have encountered a loss of power on the highway which almost caused a wreck while my kids were in the car on a trip.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. While driving various speeds, the check engine, traction control, and stabilitrak warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle's power independently reduced. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,940.
I am having timing chain issues as everyone else I have seen or read about my sub only 78,000 miles and gm will not extend the warranty on this part.
Timing chain is loose. Loosing fuel and power.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. Upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the timing chain was failing and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
Blown engine @. 55,000 miles while driving at normal speed.
Car stopped functioning in middle of highway with no warning. Was very dangerous situation with 2 small children in the vehicle. No steering, no power brakes and no engine. Traverse was purchased new in Aug 2010 and has approx. 55,000 miles. Needs new engine. Had chain issues in Jan 2015.
Vehicle keeps pulling code p0008. Gets sluggish after engine light comes on. Seems there was a recall for the 2009 models that were having the same issues.
At 84000 miles the emissions light came on yet nothing was a red flag while driving. No noises or anything seemed different. Had diagnostics completed and timing chain was stretched and needed replaced. Codes p0008, p0009, p0017 appeared. Cost $2500. Our warranty was up at 83000 miles. Seems this is a common problem yet the dealership never mentioned any of this during the sale. Gm should have a recall on this!!.
The stability/track light turned on while driving home from a meeting. The airbag service light goes on and off too.
While driving our vehicle some sensors starting to go off and we started losing power to the vehicle which in turn caused a huge and very dangerous situation. The Traverse we were driving showed a traction control, service stabilitrak signal. It began to lose power and slow down. If we were in the middle of the highway we would have wrecked, luckily we were not. I have noticed that this has been an issue on many other Traverse's as well as many other vehicles within the Chevrolet lineup, yet there is still no recall. I am not sure what needs to be done or if someone really needs to hurt before a recall is made, but someone need to make the right call before anyone gets hurt with this issue. I have contacted Chevrolet and they said it is a know issue but there is no recall for it, what needs to be done to make this recall happen, does someone need to seriously get hurt? it also appears that there are no fixes for this issue and it is just costing owners, more and more money to get repairs they don't really need. Where do I go from here?.
I purchased a 2010 Traverse from molle chevy in blue springs 3 years ago. We have 61,000 miles and were sent letters to go have more recalls and "special adjustments" done. (chevy's way of more recalls without calling them that) besides many other codes, this weeks p0008 code is a known timing chain issue. Since we took it in and it wasn't one of the special adjustments, they made us pay for the $90 diagnostic, wouldn't give me the car until I paid. Offered for "us" to pay and fix the problem and they would split the cost with us, went from $2,700 to $863, what a deal! it is a known defect! why should we pay a $1, we already paid for the vehicle??? after holding are car hostage for the $90 and offering for us to pay for gm's fix, we have decided to check all reacall's and buy used with the least amount. I really hope the people get a dose of what they give in life. They have these people trained to sell a line of crap all the way from purchase to end of life on the vehicle. I know they are a necessary evil, but buyers beware, cars are the biggest waste of money, stress, and time. They don't pay for all your time for the recalls, why? buy a cheaper used car and check the recalls before you do. Don't buy new, you don't know what's wrong with them yet. No one looks cool in an costly car with a ton of issues. Life's to short. I would say don't go to chevy but they are all similar to a point. Good luck, my Traverse is being sold this week. Sorry to whoever buys it from carmax. Always research!!!!! always buy at least a year old, gives time to find issues, 2 is better.
My Traverse just pulled a p0008 and p0017 engine code. After bringing it to the mechanic, I had an oil flush and induction system cleaning. The following day the p0008 code when off again. This is specific for the timing chain and cylinder heads. Apparently there was a recall and warranty extension for 08-09 chevy Traverses however that has not transferred over to my particular model year. My vehicle is 1 year out of warranty with only 63,000 miles on it. My repairs are to be an estimated $4,000 - $6,300 but am being offered a 50/50 split that I feel is still unacceptable on a vehicle with only 63,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that the vehicle drove abnormally rough and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the timing chain stretched and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.
I was driving on highway going 70mph. Traction control/stabilitrak off came on dash along with park assist off. I felt the engine lose power and speed dropped to 25mph. I has to swerve and miss several cars from hitting me due to this reduce speed on the highway. Pressed on the peddle to speed up and the engine would not go past 1st gear ( well at least that's what it felt like) I had the car towed home. To afraid to drive. Took it to our shop and nothing was registered on the diagnostic code. Car seems fine now, just afraid to drive. Is there a recall for this?.
My car could have gotten me killed. I was on my way to work, stopped at a stop sign and when I mashed the gas to go it said stability track off ,motor reduced. My car literally was in the road with traffic coming. There was no way to turn it off . Another day I had to pull over on a four lane because it done the same and wouldn't go. This is so dangerous to anyone who has these chevy Traverse. I have looked at many reviews and this is a big complaint out of hundreds of people on the same issue. It's a matter of time before someone is killed. It's not safe for an individual much less a family, because you never know when it's going to shut down. No shop can fix this problem. I've had new tires, sensor, and reset and it doesn't work. Please consider looking at all the reviews on these cars.
My Traverse just pulled a p0008 and p0017 engine code. After bringing it to the mechanic, I had an oil flush and induction system cleaning. The following day the p0008 code when off again. This is specific for the timing chain which is directly affecting the cam and crank positioning (creating sluggish performance and poor fuel economy) apparently there was a recall and warranty extension for 08-09 chevy Traverses however that has not transferred over to my particular model year, which was built in 09 but sold as an 2010. The vehicle is 8 months out of warranty with only 66,000 miles on it. -(please note service bulletin 10287c date of issue April 13, 2012) (also note the letter sent to owners about the ecm reprogramming, did not resolve the problem and warranty extension would be provided for 10 years 120,000 miles).
Timing chain is stretched after 102,000 miles; repair is $2500; gm extended the warranty for this problem on 2007 to 2009; the same problem exists for 2010 but gm has not extended the warranty; oil was changed regularly; timing chain should not go after 5 yrs, 100k miles. Gm must extend warranty for this model year due to this ongoing design flaw.
I am writing you this letter to file an official complaint against general motors regarding my 2010 chevy Traverse. On August 6th 2015, while driving my car 55mph, the engine seized causing loss of power steering and power breaks. As you can imagine, this put my family in a dangerous situation. Our licensed mechanic told us the reason the engine seized is a ¿spun rod barring. ¿ we were told that a spun rod barring is a very uncommon mechanical issue and extremely uncommon in a car that is only 5 years old with only 71k miles on it. I called general motors while the car was being repaired to discuss the problem. They were quite rude and refused to discuss the issue because I did not take my car to a certified gm repair shop. Therefore, I decided to send gm a letter explaining the situation. Attached is a copy of the letter, maintenance records, and photos of the spun rod barring I sent to gm. Gm customer service called me on multiple occasions and verbally told me that they would not reimburse me or even look into the issue because ¿I did not take my car to a certified gm repair shop for the repair. ¿ I asked customer service multiple times to send me this information in writing and they refused. To refuse standard customer service and avoid taking responsibility for a poorly engineered and manufactured engine simply because I did not take my car to a certified gm repair shop is inexcusable. I hope that you can assist me in receiving reimbursement for replacing the engine in my car and requiring gm to recall the engine. If you need any additional information please let me know. I have more documents than the website allows me to submit.
