Sporadic transmission failure during operation of vehicle. During operation of vehicle a sudden jerk of the transmission occurs and the vehicle is unable to shift gears in transit. On 2/19/2018 while on a trip, our 2016 Chevrolet Traverse with 29,000 miles on it had a catastrophic transmission failure while merging onto interstate 40 at shamrock, texas. We were almost hit by a semi truck and barley missed a fatal accident. I had the vehicle towed by irish road service to the closest Chevrolet dealer (ware Chevrolet Buick) in wheeler, texas. This was approximately 16 miles ($175) � when we arrived there I was told by the service manager that they would not work on the car and to tow it somewhere else. I talked to serena bailey in the service department at autonation Chevrolet in amarillo, TX and she told me they would not tow the car but would work on it if I got it there. . I had the car towed approx. 100 miles to autonation Chevrolet on February 20 ($575). Per the dealer in amarillo there is a bulletin out on this transmission for the failure of the 3-5-r clutch pack so this is a known defect and should have been a fix done as a recall instead of waiting until the transmission has a catastrophic failure. This is exactly the part replaced by this dealer per the invoice from that repair. I have contacted Chevrolet 4 times asking for reimbursement of costs for the towing and costs to stay in amarillo. Two times they cut me off - the 3rd time on 3/5/18 they told me to write a letter to road side service to request the reimbursement. I did this with copies of all receipts on 3-5-18. I had not heard anything so on 3/27/18 I called the 1-800-243-8971 again and talked to sofia. She told me that since I did not call them initially on 2/19/18 to have them tow the car I was not eligible for a reimbursement.

The 2009 Chevrolet Traverse is a hazard to drive! this is the 3rd major break down in the last 4 years and is also currently under recall for bad airbags and seatbelts, whereas should there be an accident, the actual deployment of said bags would "injure the occupant" (recall words). In 2012 the entire power steering system failed. Later recalled and good thing I was in they driveway and not the interstate! 2013 the catalytic converter system failed to a tune of $2,020. 84 - totally out of pocket expense, and once again, the engine could have caught fire and caused injury. 2015 just a few weeks ago, the transmission fails completely and is estimated at $3,896. 36 at just over 100,000 miles, less than 5 years old. All Chevrolet Traverses are potentially hazardous and should be totally recalled. Thank you.

My wife the driver was taking my son to school and the transmission was making a winning sound then the transmission failed. Thankfully there was no accident. Took the vehicle to the dealer and the customer rep said that the transmission will have to be replaced. They said it would cost $4850. I immediately called gm and they said that I was up by 5 months on warranty. It has a 100,000 mile or 5 year power train warranty. They will not help replace my transmission or give good wil assistance. It really makes me mad that this is a known bulletin and problem that gm ignores to fix. The problem is bulletin no. : 09-07-30-012a which is a broken 35r clutch wave plate inside the transmission causing metal shavings in transmission an a total failure on the transmission. It's a $20 dollar part that comes off and it destroys the transmission. Thankfully my family is ok. I believe that gm should extend this issue under warranty and fix this problem before some gets hurt or killed. I would hate to think what would happen if she was in a metropolitan area and it went out in heavy traffic. Please do something about this!!!!!! thanks.

During the first incident of this problem the car would stutter/hesitate/shift strange when going up a hill at higher speeds. The problem continued for about one year and then had a transmission failure with no shift from 2nd gear to 3rd, difficulty shifting from 5th to 6th, and no reverse.
