Chevrolet Traverse owners have reported 754 problems related to power train (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Traverse based on all problems reported for the Traverse.
Vehicle shudders when driving between 18mph and 40mph. Brought into dealership, was told that the torque converter is coming apart, and that it would require an entire transmission replacement. This vehicle has been immaculately maintained, and only has 34745 miles on it. There is no reason that a main component of a powertrain should fail at such a low milage. I was told that the warranty only convers the part for 5 years regardless of the low milage. Was quoted $8500 (at a discount) for the repair required to make the vehicle road worthy. Just to be clear, this is a one owner, garage kept vehicle that averaged less than 5000 miles a year, with a flawless service record. This is 100% a manufacturing issue.

I bought my Traverse in 2024 it’s now two year later and my entire transmission needs replaced no longer shifting between 1000& 2000rpms this is a known issue with these vehicles and there hasn’t been a recall yet. Also the button in my shift knob tells me it is not in park (shift to park) even though it’s clearly in park. Along with the transmission issue the stabilitrack warning comes on every time the car comes out of auto shut off and jumps forward. How is this safe?.

Engine light came on. Car started shaking and making noise when shifting. Speed would not increase while driving. When shifting into park the car does not recognize that’s it’s in park and had to jiggle the gear shift. Took it to an independent mechanic and they said it’s probably the transmission. Have to take it to a transmission shop.
I purchase my 2018 Traverse in 2020 from day one there was a transmission problem. Took it to a Chevrolet dealer and they told me there something broken inside the transmission which it was still under warranty. A year later we notice the transmission would slip from time to time. Took it to the dealership told the service department the issue I was having with the vehicle. Just to be on the safe side I told them to do a transmission flush on the vehicle and ask the service tech to drive it to make there were any problems. Of course I was told everything was fine with the transmission. Maybe three weeks later it was still doing the same thing slipping from time to time. Now current yesterday I went to the store with no problem, went to leave the vehicle wouldn't go in reverse and barely wanting to move. I had to put the transmission into manual to get it home. The next day I was able to drive it to the dealership to see what was wrong with it. A few hours later, I received the unwanted phone call saying the transmission was done. I was told $11,000 dollars for the repair and two weeks for it to be complete. Now I am stuck in between a hard place and a rock. I am not sure if I want to take the chance on having it replaced for it to do the same thing again in the future.
When shifting into drive from start, the shifter does not shift. I have my foot on the brake at the same time also. This has happened at least 8 eight times sense the SUV went over 3500 miles on the odometer. I have to wait about 5 seconds before trying it again. This is a safety item that needs immediate attention by Chevrolet and gm, if I needed to evacuate an area, or my garage in the event of a fire and the shifter fails!!!?? should I take it back to the dealer and ask for a refund?? o give them a chance to fix it?.
Lost power to transmission at 36k miles. Transmission replaced by gm. Currently, the vehicle lost transmission power while driving and had to be towed to dealership. Notified that the transmission needs replaced again.
The vehicle jerks/shifts harshly while decelerating and again when accelerating after slowing down. The issue feels similar to the previous transmission shudder concern that was repaired.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding two vehicles provided through bob hook Chevrolet in [xxx] . My Chevrolet Traverse has been at the dealership for approximately one month due to a transmission failure. The vehicle has remained unrepaired during that time. The transmission issue has made the vehicle unreliable and unsafe to operate. While my Traverse was in the shop, the dealership provided me with a Buick enclave loaner vehicle. On Thursday, while driving the enclave, the vehicle repeatedly stalled. The entire electrical system shut down, and the power steering failed and locked up. This created a very dangerous situation and made it difficult to safely control the vehicle in traffic. After reporting the breakdown and safety concerns, the dealership’s only solution was to return my Chevrolet Traverse to me even though it had not been repaired. I am concerned about the serious safety risks involving sudden stalling, electrical failure, loss of steering assist, and unresolved transmission problems. I request that these issues be investigated to determine whether defects exist that could endanger other drivers. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Purchased the car in 2022 noticed some trans slipping issues and immediately reported it to the purchasing dealer. They took the car in serviced it and said it was good shortly after that noticed the problem again. We took it to be looked at and was told "nothing was noticed". A few months later again noticed some issues took it to another dealership and was told "nothing was noticed". Driving time dropped on the vehicle 2023-2025. Once instance driving down a major highway transmission started slipping. I reached out to Chevrolet and they were less than inclined to offer help other than to say take it in for service. I explained to them that we were lucky we were not in an accident as we lost transmission while driving on a major highway. Same response. Sporadically it would happen but no major problems. Fast forward to 2026 we noticed 2 weeks ago that driving down the street it would slip. Before we could make an appointment we pulled into a parking spot and reverse dropped. Now we have a car with no reverse. Took it to be looked at a local shop near where we were and was told transmission is bad. Now it sits because it can not be driven safely. Waiting for an appointment at a Chevrolet facility.
As I come to a stop and go to accelerate my transmission stutters and sometimes slips,I went to gm website and there is a recall on the 2018 chevy Traverse transmission but my VIN isnt included. I have all the symptons of the recall as described on the gm website but again my VIN isnt included in the recall. It only has 61k miles I been having issue since around 30k I been in and out of dealership but the test drive it and it doesnt do it and they just give it back to me,they told me I gotta catch it doing it and try to get it in. I contacted chevy and they instructed me to come to this site fill this form out. Chevy told me my vehicle probally wasnt included in the recall because not enough people reported it so I should fill out a report. Around 55k miles when the transmission slipped and the rpms rose really high it snapped the drive shaft which was scary as I had my children in car and car just stopped moving right in the middle of traffic if it would of been busy I could of been rear ended because of the sudden stoppage. I keep trying to get back in dealership but I work mornings so the driving I do is later I day so when it acts up the dealer is closed and they are closed sat and sun so by the time I get to them the next day or on a Monday it doesnt do it for them so they just keep giving me car back and I keep worrying about something happening like on the highway with my kids in car. The dealer did have someone test drive car and it did reproduce the symptoms but they made appointment for following week and when tech it then it didnt act up so it was returned to me once again.
The vehicle shudders and it very slow to shift from park to drive.
It started when I put my car in reverse and it would delay and jerk back before reversing off and on. About a month later, I started my car in the street and accelerated and it jerked and shut off in the middle of a street. I restarted it and accelerated it again and it jerked and shut off again. It's a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse with 61,570 miles. I towed it back to dealer and they are stating it's an issue with the transmission and want to charge $9800. I can send the email chevy sent for the repair estimate. My safety was put at risk by completely stopping in the middle of the street where I could have gotten crashed into. The problem was confirmed by the chevy dealer where I bought the vehicle. The vehicle was seen by transmission specialist at chevy dealer. No warning messages at all. Chevy app kept saying everything looks good with vehicle.
I have 37,000 miles and have taken it to a Chevrolet dealer for all suggested routine maintenance. It started shuddering so I took in to dealer. They said known issue and may need a new torque converter which would cost approximately $8500. They suggested I try changing the transmission fluid even though suggested at 45,000 miles. They said to drive 200 miles and see if it goes away. I haven't yet put 200 miles but am very concerned there is a bigger issue with the Traverses out there and afraid this is a band-aid and feel a recall may be inevitable. Just wanted to share with you.

When shutting the vehicle off, shifting to park pushing the button to shut off, the dash indicates shift to park after the vehicle is shut off. Vehicle will not lock. This is not safe to leave this way.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in park(p), the vehicle failed to turn off with the message “shift to park” displayed. The contact stated that several attempts were required to turn off the vehicle. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,300. The VIN was unavailable.
2020 Chevrolet Traverse started to shudder and hard shift between 25 to 30 miles per hour. Vehicle only has 64,925 miles on it (4,925 miles above warranty). Vehicle was taken to garage and told the torque converter along with valve body was needed to be replaced. The torque converter malfunctioned right after warranty expired due to mileage and could have left my family stranded on the side of the road. The components have been inspected by Chevrolet manufacturer and they deemed they needed to be replaced and replaced them. No lights or anything came on the only sign was the shudder and hard shift which if not taken in immediately could put the owner past the warranty mileage. Vehicle was purchased brand new and routine maintenance conducted.
The vehicle only has 145,xxx miles and I experience a "shudder" which could be caused by torque converter issues, often felt at highway speeds (approx. 40-60 mph).

There is a recall for the year, make and model for driver side airbag, also to do with transmission slipping and both of those I'm currently having issues with on my vehicle but with my VIN its not coming up for any of the recalls but I want to request a investigation on if my vehicle or any other of the same year be added to the recall.

I was driving and without any type of warning the car stopped shifting so I was barely touching the gas but my tac was all the way up.
The transmission is going out at 107k miles and needs to be completely replaced for around $8500 (see attached quote). It has a shudder and has a hard time shifting into third gear. This is a known issue with Traverses.
The exhaust bracket is broken [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Vehicle driving 32 miles an hour had sudden brake failure. The brakes did not work. Then, the vehicle had the following faults; esc fault, traction and stability control fault, brake system fault, air conditioning failure (blowing hot air while 92 degrees out), lane assist fault, power steering fault. The vehicle almost slammed into traffic as it could not stop. The vehicle has 14872 miles.

Puttering can be heard. Manifold has been replaced already. Reverberation through steering wheel and pedal can be felt when idling. Car has shuddered when driving 40+ in the past but dealership downplayed any possible issues. There is an issue with something in this vehicle whether it's the torque converter or another part up or downstream.
Check engine light came on with limited acceleration vehicle, then proceeded to overheat several times having to pull over to the side of the road in very dangerous locations vehicle was brought to dealership and it was determined it was a coolant pump. It was replaced under warranty. I want it to be known that there was an issue as others I have heard our ex experiencing the same.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while driving at 15-30 mph and shifting gears, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle began to shudder at 50-60 mph. The yellow engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined the gear system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined a new gear system was needed. There was no warranty coverage. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
Our 2019 Traverse transmission around 130,000 miles started shuddering when slowly accelerating or driving. Not sure what causes this but I do know that it should be doing this as well as getting the shift to park message. I looked online and found that it's supposed to be the torque converter. I then contacted a transmission repair specialist and he stated that changing the fluid may make it worse or make it possibly fail altogether. Then I found a video about shudder fix and I added one of those packets to the transmission and it stopped the shudder but it now seems to be trying to creep back. This is a known issue with most people not being able to afford the $9000+ repair costs. The shift to park issue is another issue that shouldn't be happening and the dealership will charge an arm and a leg for the repairs on this as well. Pressing the gear shift button about 5 to 10 times after shifting to park is a short term solution because that issue is tied to a spring action underneath the shifter to tell the car I'm in park. I found a bypass piece that is required to resolve the issue but I shouldn't have to do that to get this vehicle to work properly. Chevy needs to do a recall on this or they run the risk of having a bunch of them on the market where we all got rid of them and won't buy anymore Chevrolet vehicles. This is the second newer model vehicle I had from them. The first one was an impala and the dealership didn't know why the screen would go black and cause the car to start hesitating horribly. So I left it with the dealership, they can have it back.
When placing the vehicle in park, whether it’s on a flat surface or an incline, the shift to park notification displays. In addition, the nonfiction chime rings consistently until the gear shift is realigned or until it stops on its own. During this ringing period the headlights won’t go off and the ringing last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. The longest time recorded was 20 minutes. Once the ringing finalizes, there is still a possibility that the start/stop button has to be pressed manually so the headlights will completely turn off.
Complete transmission failure while driving approximately 60 mph. Transmission started shifting irregularly while driving at a steady speed on a 55 mph paved county road and locked into 3rd gear slowing me down quite suddenly. I turned on my emergency flashers and pulled into a parking lot. If traffic had been heavy I could easily have been hit from behind for unexpected deceleration with no brakes applied and no brake lights to warn a following vehicle. There were no dash warning on even after stopping. The vehicle has 111,000 miles on it and has been used to tow loads rarely, and the loads were far below the 5000 lb rating of the vehicle. Because it is well past the 75,000 mile power-train warranty (I bought it used) I am having to pay nearly $9,000 for a remanufactured transmission replacement at my local dealership. This is a major financial burden to me for a repair something that should last well beyond 200,000 miles as transmission typically do. I have owned several vehicles that have.
My car has been acting odd and shaking a lot. Was told it could be transmission since I fixed everything else it could be.
I have a 2019 chevy Traverse I bouth it 2020 /9/11 2020 I have had problems scense then I right now havb to buy a transmission GMC had me to take it to a chevy dealer and ask for some coast asistant they would not so they baclk out now I am about to sue.
My car is available for inspection upon request. Awd service and 4wd service messages appeared at 389 miles and 2104 miles on the odometer. Messages appeared during operation of the vehicle, shutting down awd as an option and defaulting to 2wd. Messages would go away and awd would come back online after a few hours of leaving the car off. Awd system was in use when error messages appeared and deactivation of the awd/4wd system increased risk during icy road conditions. When taken to the houston mac haik chevy dealership service center, I was refused at the door, stating that the messages needs to be on for them to take a look. No warning lamps or other messages appeared prior to failure. Message first appeared during normal operation with awd on at 389 miles on the odometer. The components have not been inspected by anyone.
