1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 03/01/2020

In the begining my car stall after filling the tank up with gas. It would stall at low idle like for instance when I come to a stop. But it also have done it when I've been on the highway when I release the gas pedal which is very dangerous to me and everyone around me. Especially on a major city highway like atlanta. I;ve been trying to get this resolve since early last year.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 10/01/2019

Ii own a 2005 300c with 1001,500 miles. I had a problem with the car running out of gas when the gage was still showing gas in the tank wile driving in city streets, and once in highway. Luckily I was in the right lane. I complained to the dealer in two occasions of this occurrence. Finally the tank was replaced around 2014. After that, I went back to the dealer on several occasions complaining that after filling my tank with gas there was a strong smell of fuel. They keep telling me there was nothing wrong. Finally in October 2019. I took car back and was told there was a crack on the at top of fuel tank pump housing r/h, and gas was leaking from the attaching ring and the rubber hose and accumulating on some cavities at top of pump. The dealer quoted me about a thousand dollar for the job, and needed keep my car for 3 days. I got a second opinion and was told this has being happening for a long time. I eventually had the car repaired at the second location for less than $450 dollar including parts, and the was car fixed in 4 hours not 3 days and a thousand dollars. Also! I had an incident were the factory battery in the car exploded in the trunk of the car wile I was driving. Approximately 2011.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 09/14/2019

Every time you fill the vehicle with gas, the car dies shortly after fueling with out any kind of warning. After you drive a little ways and burn some of the fuel from the tank, the car runs fine. The driver has no warning and the car has trouble starting after it dies. I was almost in a serious accident because I pulled out of the gas station after filling with fuel. I was in heavy traffic and the car died. The car is quite and I didn't realized the car died. I just kept pressing on the gas peddle until I observed the rpm gauge was on zero. I had no warning. I bought this vehicle used with low mileage. I thought is was a isolated incident, but sadly was wrong. It happens every time you fill it up with gas and may die once or several times. There are no pre-warnings for the vehicle stalling. All acceleration, powers steering, and power brakes were gone with out warning. A quick search on the internet reviled this is a defect in the gas tank design and Chrysler has not stepped up to fix this. Chrysler said the only fix is a new fuel tank and they are are aware of the issue. Chrysler also change the design of the fuel tank in later models because of the defect please hold the maker accountable for dangerous and life threatening defect.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 06/04/2019

After filling up the gas tank, the vehicle started stalling right after I started driving away from the gas station. I was in the middle of the road, during a heavy traffic hour on city street. After turning off the vehicle and waiting a few minutes, I was able to restart but the vehicle stalled again. This has happened quite often. I have brought the vehicle to the dealership and they said nothing is wrong, but the problem keeps getting worse. After talking with them today, they said to bring the vehicle in almost full of gas and they will top it off and check for the stalling. This is the first time they acknowledged this issue. I am concerned about driving the vehicle to the dealership, knowing it will stall in traffic. The cost to repair if not covered is approx. $1,500. I asked about the extended lifetime coverage and was told to contact you. My problem matches exactly what is documented in your investigation document pe 13-016.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

5 min after filling the fuel tank, going approximately 15 mph, the car started lurching forward. Turned onto a side street, pressed gas pedal and the car completely died. Then restarted as if normal. We had 2 grandchildren in the car on a very busy street. This could easily have created an accident. Researched this problem, found there was a recall for the exact problem. But, when I entered the VIN on this site, it states no recalls for this VIN. What is my next step? I just bought the car and the original owner is deceased so I can't obtain any info/history on the car.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 10/16/2018

Vehicle stalls every time after filling up gas tank. Stalls when driving slowly or at idle when turning ex. When turning at intersection or turning into driveway. This is a definite safety issue as the car can shut off in the middle of a busy intersection and could possibly cause an accident. Vehicle can sometimes be turned on right after it has shut off or can take up to 10 minutes for it to crank up. 10 minutes in a busy intersection is a long time waiting for a vehicle to crank up.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Shortly after filling gas tank, whether standing or at considerable speed, car stalls several times. When at highway speed (ie 65 mph on route 80) car will shudder and then restart itself; at slow speed driver must restart manually by shifting into neutral and using ignition. If parked at idle, car will just stop several times. Occurs at all levels of gas tank prior to refill. (I am forced to select a date, below, but it has happen many times in the last four months that I have owned the car. ).

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2014 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 05/11/2018

I smelled gas in the cabin then later after filling the tank, I had gas running out under the car. Investigation revealed melted plastic around the fuel pump electrical connector pins allowed gas to leak on top of the tank then run down out of the tank. I changed the fuel pump only to have it happen again 5 months later. The fuel pump sits lower than the fuel pump so when the tank is full, about 3 gallons of gas will leak out. I figured out the cause was from heavy objects, in my case, people sitting in the back seat but child seats or possibly groceries could exert pressure on the electrical connector causing the pins to heat up and melt the plastic. . Failure Date: 03/24/2018

After filling gas tank ( full) the car stalls for the first couple of miles. Then stop shortly after. This is happening more and more. There was a recall for the 2005-2006 models with the 5. 7 and 6. 1 liter engines, but not for the 3. 5 liter that I own even though I have found through the Chrysler forums this is a problem for many of these model ( 2005-20006) Chrysler gave a life time warranty to the 5. 7 and 6. 1 liter models , but not mine. Even though this is the same dangerous problem as those vehicles.

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that while filling up the gas the contact then smelled gas fumes inside the vehicle. The contact did not know where the gas leak was coming from and went to the dealer cullman Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 300 benchmark way, cullman, al 35057 (256) 615-2563. They said that there is a overflow filter that runs with the fuel lines. The part was also called the fuel canister. They said it was the contact's fault by overfilling the gas tank that the fumes were inside the vehicle. On 10/01/19 the contact filled up the fuel tank and the vehicle stalled and sputtered but picked back up. When the contact arrived home he smelled gas and exiting the vehicle. The fuel was leaking from the right rear quarter panel and leaving a trail. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact noticed the leak close to the exhaust system. The dealer called back and told the contact he overfilled the vehicle again and needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer and they sided with the dealer but would do some more investigating. They suggested the contact to get a second opinion at another dealer but the the vehicle was already fixed and paid for. The contact told both the dealer and the manufacturer that he saw no overflow of fuel onto the ground. Currently both feel the contact overfilled the fuel tank. The failure mileage was 34,000. Tf.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2011 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 06/23/2015

After filling up my gas tank, I noticed the engine light was on and an odor of gas was present in and outside the car. Took the car for service. They checked for a gas leak and found it under the rear seat. I will quote the invoice (165567) dayton andrews inc. . "found gas dripping of side for gas tank coming from the top. Removed back seat to find connector was not fully installed. Installed connector and clear codes. Vehicle checks ok at this time". The service mgr. Said "we cleaned up the gas as best we could, and that the odor should dissipate in a few days". It's been a week and I'm afraid to drive the car. When I do, I need to have all the windows down. This I feel is very dangerous. I've never had any kind of major accident and it seems to me that this connection that was not installed properly was done or not done at the factory.

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

This has been going on for at least 6 months. Everytime I fill my tank up with gas, stop at a stop light, the car cuts off. It cuts off everytime I stop after filling the tank. Yesterday 10/28/2014, I filled and got on the highway, slowed to traffic and almost died. A car was coming full speed behind me, there was nothing I could do but pray. 25 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2005 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

My daughter & I are driving my car, a 2005 Chrysler 300c with the v8 engine and experiencing a stalling problem after filling up with gas. Upon leaving the gas station and merging into local traffic the car then stalls causing a dramatic loss of speed and loss of control. For my daughter she was lucky that there was a driveway (for another gas station) at the corner so she rolled into another gas station without hitting any cars and causing an accident. The same problem reappeared when next time, I left the gas station after filling up and the car stalled after I travelled about 200 feet and had just merged into traffic on a busy local road. Luckily I was able to restart the car after it stalled in the middle of this road. The car is now stalling every time I fill the tank and I will be taking it to a Chrysler dealer to get fixed. This problem was investigated by the NHTSA (reference case pe3-016) they found that the problem was caused by filling up the car with higher ethanol gas which was causing the gas shut-off float located inside the gas tank to swell and stick in the open position which allowed fuel to enter a purge line. Chrysler responded by extending fuel tank warranties to153,817 vehicles, namely the v8 versions on the Chrysler 300s, Dodge chargers and Dodge magnums for the 2006 model year. . Read more...

26 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

After filling car with fuel car starts bucking and stalls. Restarts and bucks and stalls a few more times then runs fine until next time we fill up. We cannot fill the fuel tank up or take a serious chance of having car stall in traffic. I have asked Chrysler if there was a recall or fix for this and was told by service manger that he was not aware. They suggested that I need fuel tank unit $1,158. 00. I have read that many people are having same problems and only fix is to pay for a new gas tank as this is only fix. Chrysler should fix this for no charge as it is part of the emission system. I'm terrified to have my son in the car that we'll be hurt or killed by this flaw in the fuel tank. I hope we can get some help to get this repaired. Thanks.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Filled car and it stalled out. After restarting and driving a little while seemed fine. Recentley 11/2/14 and today 11/11/14 after filling gas tank sames isse two weeks in a row. I saw a lifetime extention of warranty come a few months back. I just want to get in line for recall.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

After filling my tank my car wouldn't start. Called my husband waited for him approx 15 minutes and car started. As I left the gas station and accelerated the car stalled in the middle of a 3 lane busy street. I coasted with no power to the right and turned on my hazards. After multiple attempts to restart it I had it towed to my mechanic. He couldn't find anything wrong, picked it up next day, seemed fine. Started filling tank to 3/4, accidentally filled full 1x since, same problem last night. Called 2 Chrysler dealers this morning (4/8/14) to fix problem. They said Chrysler is working on fix, nothing they can do. Sooooooooo dangerous!!!!!! this is wrong, I have little kids and I am scared to death car will die in middle of intersection.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

Vehicle stalling shortly after fill up. Problem accrues using different filling stations. Fuel tank was not "toped off". Has happened multiple times. After fill up, starts and runs fine for a short time. Seams to straiten out after fuel dopes in tank. Restarting can be hard.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

Everytime the car was filled up, it stalls a few times. This had been happenning a lot during this pst year and still currently happpens. Luckily I was able to pull over when the car stalled, otherewise it will create accident. This is dangerous when driving on the crowded traffic. After it stalls couple times, the engine got gloded and it is difficult to start(this was the same time-dame day after filling up the tank). I brought it to the mechanic and he said he can't find anything since at the time he got the car to check, it doesn't stall.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 01/22/2013

After filling the gas tank, in phoenix, az, entering an intersection, the car stalled! we were almost hit by a car coming from another direction. It did this (stalling) many times. Scary! apparently they issued an internal memo in June of 2013. In may, 2014 Chrysler sent a letter to us extending the gas tank warranty to a lifetime coverage. They said it was the "fuel shut-off float, in the multifunction control valve sticks, which may result in the vehicle stalling after refueling. " "smply contact your dealer to have the re pairs performed". Challenge the dealers do not have any fuel tanks. Glendale, CA Chrysler has a waiting list of 2,276 yesterday, October 1, 2014. We are and have been #8 at hunter Dodge in lancaster, CA since early may. We never fill the tank. It is too great a risk! help please.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 01/14/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler 300. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was advised to stop filling the fuel tank to capacity. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the cause for the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 60,000.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 10/26/2012

I have a 2006 Chrysler 300c bought it new and never had any problems until 2012 when we were traveling for the holidays and stopped to refuel. After filling the tank we started the car and proceeded to drive, the car started bucking and then would shut off. It did this twice before it stopped and then drove fine for the rest of the trip. It did the same thing on our way home after filling the gas tank but after doing it several times it drove fine for the rest of the trip. Once home the car drove fine until I filled it up with gas and the problem started again. It bucks and then stalls, sometimes it will start right away and other times I had to let it sit a while. This has happened in the middle of an intersection, at a stop light and while just driving along. This is scary as well as dangerous because not only does it stop anywhere which could cause another car to hit you, the steering wheel locks and on one occasion I almost hit another car because I couldn't steer out of the way during a turn. Took it to the dealership and was told I need to replace the gas tank gave me info about cannisters and vapors and not being something that is serviceable. Of course it's going to be expensive but this type of problem is a danger on the road could lead to a serious accident.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

After filling up the gas tank, the car stalls when at speeds of less than 15 miles per hour. It stalls in the middle of intersections and on turning on to streets. Took the car into the Chrysler dealer and they informed us that the gas tank had to be replaced because of bad evap solenoid which is permanently affixed to the fuel tank. It is very dangerous to drive after filling up because of the chance of being rear ended.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem of the 2006 Chrysler 300

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

After refilling the gas tank of my 2006 300c Chrysler, it stumbls as though it is no longer getting enough fuel. There is a definite and serious loss of power, with concern for our safety as we exit the gas station and reenter traffic. There is a sense that the engine is struggling and would stall. The loss of power repeats several more times as we drive further from the gas station. This problem has presented itself almost every time we refuel and is cause for real concern for our safety. Based on advice from other 300c owners, we plan to no longer fill the tank, but stop at about the 3/4 mark. This does not seem to be a very effective solution to a genuine safety issue.
