I own a '99 Chrysler 300m. The dash has develop a 10" vertical crack on the dash above the air-bag. I spoke with several other owners of similar 300m's, all have experienced this problem. I feel thesis a flaw in manufacturing and a major safety issue that needs to be corrected.

The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler 300m. The contact experienced air bag failure in the dashboard. The dealer stated that no repair would be performed because the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 56,000. Updated 03/18/08. Updated 03/18/08.
Six to seven inch crack appeared in dashpad on left side of passenger airbag. Appears that airbag could deploy or perhaps malfunction in the event of a frontal crash.
A crack has developed on the dashboard around the passenger airbag of my 2000 Chrysler 300m. The crack developed around 40,000 miles.
Front passenger air bag cover (on dashboard) is gradually splitting open.
A 2 inch cut is now visible in the passenger side dash, which is the edge of the airbag housing. I am concerned that any dash repair will cause the airbag to not operate properly in the case of a collision.
Took car in for recall on the stick replacement. Dealership also replace speakers in front dashboard. Dash since then is cracked alone the passengers side air bag. This is a very dangerous and serious crack that can lead to an unexpected air bag deployment, we have records to prove that the dealership crack the dash when (they) dealership remove the front speakers for replacment as well as the recall on the stick shift recall.
The portion of the dashboard covering the front passenger airbag on my 2000 Chrysler 300m has two large cracks corresponding with the left and right side of the airbag storage area. One crack is over 12" long and the other is approx. 8" long. They are unsightly, especially for a top-of-the-line vehicle like the 300m, but I am afraid to have them repaired because of the potentially adverse affect it may have on deployment of the airbag in a collision. I understand that many 300m dashes are beginning to crack and it seems like this could result in a real safety issue if people start repairing these with vinyl patch kits that hamper airbag deployment. Chrysler needs to do something about this dash problem. They have a design flaw in the thickness of the dash skin.
At fault accident. Area of impact was front driver side. Failure of airbag to deploy caused serious bruising to my chest, arms and lower abdoment. Vehicle was totalled by insurance company.

While vehicle was parked dual airbags deployed inadvertently. No injuries reported.
2 inch vertical crack in dashboard over the passenger airbag.
I have a 2001 Chrysler 300m with a crack along the left side of the passenger airbag. This is a very common problem on 300 miles and has been happening since the 1999 model. Chrylser has done nothing to rectify the issue and will not even consider speaking to you about repairing it unless your car is under warrenty. Repair shops will not fix it due to its proximity to the airbag and the only option is to have the dealer replace the entire dash which will cost $1200. Not only is this a poor quality issue, but a safety issue as well as I have been told by the dealership that this could affect the way the airbag deploys -- if it will deploy at all. Chrylser should be responsible for fixing this issue regardless of whether car is under warranty. Mine is 3 months past warrenty and they refuse to even talk to me about the issue. They also deny knowing anything about the problem. I find this hard to believe since it has been happening since 1999.
While vehicle was at the dealer, the front air bags deployed after the mechanic pulled the release button for the hood.
I own a Chrysler 300m 2000 air bag housing (dashboard) is cracking and this could cause the air bag to be defective. Dealer notified. Refuse to do anthing about it.
Consumer stated that the air bag housing is cracking and this could cause the air bag to be defective. Dealer notified. Ts.
While driving at 40 mph the consumer was involved in a head on collision and none of the front air bags deployed. The cost of damages to the vehicle is about 7-8 thousand dollars. Contacted dealer. The consumer states that the driver was turning in front of him while the consumer was entering an intersection with a green light. The consumer hit the other vehicle at about 40 mph. Neither front air bag inflated, even though the vehicle was impacted in the front. The other driver was taken to the hospital.
Vehicle was involved in a rollover crash, struck a tree head-on and neither air bag deployed. Dealer and manufacturer were not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.
1999 Chrysler 300m. 8 inch crack in dashboard following the seam of the passenger airbag. Can not be repaiered only solution is to replace the entire dashboard cover.
Consumer was traveling about 60mph on highway and hit ice, vehicle spinned into another vehicle, and dual airbags didn't deploy. There were no injuries reported.
12-29-00 traveling at a speed of 45mph another car made a turn without yielding with no time to stop I hit the other car both cars were total loses but the airbags never opened up to prevent injuries ---- thanks Chrysler -.
While driving about 60 mph and changing line to the middle, both air bags deployed without a prior warning. Manufacturer was contacted.
I am informing your office of a possible saftey issue regarding the air bag system. On my car, the dash board began to rip at the air bag component on the passager side of the car. I have brought up the rip to the Chrysler serivce dept but to no avail. Since contact other companies for the repair of the dashboard at the rip, I was told I should report this to your office because they had seen this rip on other vehicles as mine. They said the rip is due to the dash around the air bag was thinner for the air bag to deploy, but repairing the tear around the air bag was not possible becasue of a liability issue. The tear is right on the edge on the right side of the air bag system on the passenger side of the car. I felt when I first noticed a very small tear in the dash over a year ago, that the air bag would either deploy or would interfere with the deployement. Over the year, the tear has gradually increased to the length of about 12 inches on the edge of the air bag system.
