While driving slowly in a parking lot, looking for a space, the passenger side airbag deployed with a loud explosion that also shattered the windshield. There was no contact with anything. I had the car towed to the naples dealership and after testing concluded that there was a faulty sensor and suggested I call customer service. Chrysler customer service established a case number [24703887], sent it to special investigations unit and sent a person to inspect the car. About 2 weeks later I was informed that since the car was out of warranty Chrysler had no liability. We are having the seat belt and sensor replaced [about $2,000], the windshield replaced about $800 with some insurance recovery] and renting a car during the 7-10 days from now while parts are ordered and repairs made. Certainly I believe Chrysler should cover these costs. But in addition I think Chrysler owners should be made aware of the risk of these defective sensors. In our case there was no passenger and the car was moving slowly. However, if the airbag deployed in this manner while on a highway, there could be significant risk to passenger and driver.

1) a growing crack in dashboard above passenger side airbag. 2) heat/air cluster will not illuminate.
The vinyl on the passenger side of the dash in my 2001 Chrysler 300m has cracked. The crack is about four inches long, and based on information from other 300m owners, is in the vicinity of the passenger-side air bag. There is concern that repair of this crack is unsafe due to its proximity to the air bag, and that the crack may affect deployment of the air bag.

I own a 2002 300m Chrysler and on may 17, 2005 when leaving the dealership from receiving some maintenance work a driver of a Toyota 4runner t-boned the driver side of the car causing extensive damage and the car was totalled by the insurance company. My car was equiped with front and side air bags as indicated on the sales sticker, however all air bags failed to work in this accident situation. Had my side bags deployed I could have potentially prevented severe bruising to my left side, glass injected into my left arm and forhead area, and possibly prevented loss time from work, not to mention my pain and suffering due to the injuries. The police report has stated that the accident was due to the other driver failing to stop at a traffic signal.

Air bag failed to go off in 2000 Chrysler 300m. I was hit head on by a small pick up. Witnesses says other driver doing 55/60 mph. I was traveling at 45 mph. Both obviously braking at impact but no driver side air bag deployed. My head hit the steering wheel. Lump and bad bruising as a result. Contacted Chrysler and they offered to fix air bags free if car still under warranty. Car was totaled so point is mute.

Yesterday I noticed that a small crack near the passenger side airbag had appeared. I couldn't imagine why being that my car is not that old and I keep my car clean and the dashboard moisturized. I started doing research on the problem and have found that nothing can be done about the crack because my vehicle is out of warranty. And, I cannot repair the crack because it might compromise the airbag deployment! I have read that serveral other people have experienced the same problem. Is there anything that can be done?.
While driving the srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the driver side air bag needed to be replaced.

6 inch vertical crack directly over the passenger side airbag. I feel that due to the close proximity to said airbag, this poses a serious risk to anyone riding in the passenger seat.
Last year, I noticed a crack following the left side of my passenger side airbag. Last week, I noticed a similiar crack following the right side of the airbag. Local dealership will not repair because of airbag and states the entire dash needs to be replaced at my expense. I know of many other chysler 300m owners that have this exact same problem with cracks around the passenger airbag. I feel this is a safety related issue resulting from a manufacturing defect and should be considered for a recall.
This is a huge problem with top of the line 300m cars. My car has only 60000 miles and the dash is cracked on both sides of the passenger side airbag. Every dash repair person I called said this was their #1 complaint for 300m but they will not fix them due to liability issues. As consumers we are lead to think we are buying Chryslers top of the line car. Now they have a wide spread problem and are not willing to help loyal customers. The consumer must be protected with this terrible issue.
Last spring when I pulled my car out of my heated garage that it was stored in all winter I noticed about a 3" crack on the left side of the passenger side airbag. Since then, that crack has grown to over 7" long and another one appeared this winter on the right side of the airbag that is about 3" long. I am afraid that the airbag will deploy without provacation. . Read more...
A slit has opened in the dashboard, apparently on the left hand side (when viewed from inside the car) of the passenger side airbag. Chrysler initially denied any responsibility for this, saying it must have been our problem. Follow up conversations with the local dealer suggest that Chrysler now knows it is a problem .

10 inch vertical crack over passenger side air bag compartment.
I own a 1999 Chrysler 300m and the passanger side air bag is in the dash and has developed cracks around the air bag in the dash I have called and talked to Chrysler customer service and complained about this and they basically told my out of warranty out of luck. Basically I would like something taking care of from Chrysler what if this problem happens and I happen to be in a car accident and the passanger side airbag doesnt deploy for this reason now whats going to happen lawsuit, los of life maybe something should be done about this and I know im not the only one who has this problem with there 300m and also the seal around the doors of the car have a problem of shrinking they have shrunk so much sometimes not able to open the door. Theres another problem there if im in an accident and the car starts on fire and I cant get my door open because the weather gasket has shrunk so much I can't get the door open then what. I believe Chrysler should take a look at the problems with there cars more and listen to the customers.
I have replaced 7 goodyear tires on my 1999 300m as well as one chrome rim (several serious blowouts). The driver & passenger window motors required replacement. Have mysterious 2 inch dashboard crack near passenger side airbag. Replaced sensors (crank case?). Chafing wires cause unexpected stalls & failures. Local dealer trying to diagnose current problem-car stalls after shift into drive. Afraid to keep a car with only 42,000 miles. Love the look & room of the car but may be too dangerous to risk stalling on a highway at 65mph or missing an interview.
Dash cracking around passenger side airbag.
I have a crack in my dashboard above the passenger side airbag. The crack is approx. 10" long. I have learned from other owners that the crack is a defect in the dashskin material of my 1999 Chrysler 300m. I am concerned that the crack may allow the airbag to deploy too strongly or that the repair of the dashskin my restrict the proper operation of my passenger airbag. The crack is also unsightly.
Passenger side air bag has created enough pressure on the dashboard material so as to cause a 6 inch vertical split in the material. Is this an indication that the air bag could prematurely discharge and possibly present a hazard to a passenger and/or startle the driven sufficiently so as the precipitate an accident.
I have a split over the passenger side air bag. The split started out 3 inches long and now is 8-9 inches in length. My vehicle was taking to the Chrysler dealership and told this was not a warranty item and the car is out of warranty, so I would have to come up with 1500. 00 plus installation for a new dashboard. There are at least 50 300m's in this area, that have the same problem and I wish I could get all of them to put in a complaint, but some people never do what needs to be done. This seems to be a material problem were the material is stretched over the air bag. I am not sure if the air bag will deploy or if it will deploy when not necessary startling me as I drive and cause an accident. I've looked on this web site and see where several others have complained and I complained previously. Is this defect being investigated? this seems to be a safety issue and could cause serious problems. My vehicle was taken to a vinyl repair shop and the service man said he wouldn't fix it, because he would be afraid the air bag wouldn't deploy properly.
1999 Chrysler 300m less than 3 years old has dash splitting where passanger side airbag is placed. Dealer refered me to a vinyl repair place who had repaired several others for them. Repairman refused to repair for fear of possible interference with proper operation of air bag. He stated that he had seen many with same problem.
Dashboard has cracked open around the outline of the passenger side airbag. Separate cracks of 3,4, and 6" lengths. Cracks began appearing right after expiration of warranty. According to manufacturer, only fix is to replace whole dash and they will not cover it. Afraid of airbag deployment implications.
Passenger side air bag is not a separate unit in the dashboard area. There is a very large vertical tear/crack on the left hand side the entire length of the airbag. It is obvious this is a defect in the dashboard area where the airbag sits underneath. The crack is of concern because we are concerned the airbag could disengage and our safety is a factor. The cost to repair this is the cost of an entire new dashboard in the amount of $1200 plus. Chrysler calls this cosmetic and will not cover the repair.
The dashboard on my 1999 Chrysler 300m has split on the right side just to the left of the air bag. My car has 36,00 miles and has been in a garage most of the time. I am concerned the air bag will not work properly. Chrysler is not willing to repair the dashboard because the year warranty is out. The dash should certainly outlast the first set of tires and the original battery. I also know of several other 300m's with splits in the same spot. Is this a safety issue with right side airbag?.
Dashboard cracked. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the mechanic determined that passenger side air bag caused the dashboard to crack. Dashboard along with the air bag were replaced.
