51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Chrysler Concorde

The first breakdown occurred in January of 2004. The engine froze with no warning. We had purchased an extended warranty that covered the damages to the vehicle and replaced the engine. The second breakdown occurred on August 1st 2008. That's right the second breakdown. The same thing happened the engine went from running great to running like crap in seconds. I have been informed that I will be needing to purchase another engine.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 12/23/2003

I had bought a 2000 Chrysler Concorde in 2001. The car had been acting funny. The oil light came on during stops, the engine would rev up without my pushing the accelerator, the engine was knocking. I took the car to my regular mechanic & paid for repairs that did not solve the problem. Then, soon after I took the car to a Chrysler dealership repair service and they replaced the camsensor. It seemed to correct the problems. About 6 weeks later all of the problems returned. I immediately stopped driving the vehicle except when I drove it back to the service center at the dealership the next morning. They replaced the camsensor again. The next day, my engine froze and now needs to be replaced. It was not under warranty. Therefore, niether Chrysler nor the dealership will take responsibility for my loss.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 10/24/2003

I was driving on the highway and my engine just failed. I had it towed to the Chrysler dealership and paid 100 to find out what was wrong with my car. They told me that the timing chain failed. Once the timing chain failed it sent the chain through the engine and basically destroyed the entire engine. There was only 59,000 miles on the engine which is well below Chrysler's 100,000 mile replacement reccomendation. I had to have the engine rebuilt which cost $4,000 and drained my savings completely.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 09/15/2003

On 9/30/03, I was driving to work on u. S. Hi-way 45 in heavy rush hour traffic, and the 2. 7l engine on my 2001 Chrysler Concorde suddenly failed. When the car was later towed to the local Chrysler dealer and the proble dianosed, I was informed the engine was completely gone due to sludge build-up. Further more the service dept. Manager suggeted that it appreaded that I had not changed the oil during the two years I had driven the car. (untrue) the problem was not covered by warrenty (expired by 6,000 miles)and Chrysler and the dealership refused to cover any of the extimated cost. ($6,900 for new engine or $4,000 for a used 30-day warrenty engine).

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1996 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

I was driving 70 mph down the highway when the car shuddered. I took an off ramp by the time I reached the end of the off ramp the car had died and would not restart. The extended warranty I purchased is no good, due to bankrupty. The dealer insisted I tow it to them and they would work with me to help pay for the repair. They then blamed me completely and refused to help me at all. This is the second major repair to this car. First bushings and then bolts coming out the powersteering housing. If I had not been near an off ramp I could have been in a major accident.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

While driving my 2001 Chrysler Concorde down the interstate at 65mph with my three children, the engine stopped functioning and I lost control of my car. I had no power steering and no power brakes. Fortunately I got off the highway avoiding serious injury. Chrysler states that the engine has excessive sludge and will not honor the warranty. I believe that the engine has some problem that results in it getting too hot which creates this sludge problem. Even on short 4 mile trips the hood and engine compartment are to hot to touch. These cars are a danger to drive and could pose a risk to anyone who is not strong enough to pull the car over without the benefit of power steering and brakes.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 06/15/2003

I was driving my 99 Concorde on a curvy road when engine started knocking and died. I had only manual steering and no brakes. It took all of my strength to keep it from going off a curve. I called the tow service and had it towed to a garage. They said a rod bearing had gone out of the engine. After numerous calls to Chrysler and the district mngr. He had it towed to the dealership where I bought it. To rebuild my engine (with their discount) was $6300. 00. Another rebuilt engine was $7300. 00 a new engine was $8300. 00. I have records this car was babied and regularly serviced. Chysler has denied their problem with hundreds/thousands of the 2. 7 l engines saying the sludge build up in the engine causes the blow up. They blame the owners for poor maintenance. So now I have a lawn ornament in my driveway. I refuse to pay this. I can buy another used whole car for that. I've been a chysler man for years as was my father. I have 3 now. When they are gone. That's it. Believe me I will research my next auto I purchase.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 03/01/2003

As other complaints indicate, my oil light started coming on at <700 rpms, car maintenance schedule maintained as instructed, car has 137,000 miles and owe more than its worth now. Can't afford new car, can't afford to pay to replace engine, other complaints indicate sludge problem, I'm taking to mechanic this afternoon, and expect to be told the same thing.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 1999 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 08/15/2001

Air conditioning continually goes out. As car has expired warranty, Chrysler says they have no obligation to repair. I disagree. I believe that Chrysler, and in my particular situation, has a faulty a/c system.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Chrysler Concorde

Failure Date: 05/28/2001

On may 28, 2004, the engine in my 2001 Chrysler Concorde failed while driving home from work. The car was towed to the deal (reedman auto world, langhorne, PA). We were told it would be $7,600. To replace the engine. We have 37, 500 miles on the car - 1,500 beyond the warranty, therefore neither reedman or Chrysler would honor the warranty. In conducting research on the defective engine I have learned that the steering rack and pinion is also defective on this model. The steering may fail causing the car to veer into oncoming traffic. This car is a death trap. I will not place me or my family into this death trap. Unfortunately we still have $8,600. And 2 1/2 years left on the loan. I am in a real dilema. The car has been towed to a service station where the owner will put a rebuilt engine that has corrected the defect for $2,000 less than reedman's.
