I'm filing a complaint about my 1999 Chrysler Concorde. My car was in the shop for other repairs and when I picked the car up and drove it home and begin to give me problems so I turned around to drive the car back to the repair shop and it cut off right in the middle of the intersection. I had it towed to the shop and they called me and said the engine went out. I could not understand why and how did this happen cause this was without warning and I only had the car for a short period of time and I kept the maintenance up on it. The repair shop said that this would be a hassle going thru the extended warranty company cause they would not want to replace the engine so I wanted a second opinion, I had it towed to another shop and they said the same thing, that this was a 2. 7 engine and it's expensive and it's not worth anything and the warranty company will probably not cover much of anything. I feel that since this engine is known to have engine failure problems, something should be done about this cause it's not safe for an engine to go out without any forewarning and it's not affordable at all. . Please acknowledge this immediately.

(1) heard persistent knocking/pinging sound that was growing louder (2) took to mechanic who diagnosed imminent engine failure - cracked rod (3) replaced engine, found cracked rod and engine loaded down with sludge.
I own a 2000 chyrsler Concorde with a 2. 7 lemon engine. It blew up at 73500 miles. My mechanic says it is due to oil sludge buildup and too small of oil ports. I have read the 100's of complaints from other people on the internet as well as Chryslers denial of a problem. If former employees of Chrysler have told me this is a design problem. It is time for daimler Chrysler to step up to the plate and act responsibly. Regardless of their claims one or two missed oil changes will not cause total engine failure. It is not unreasonable to expect a vehicle to go for 200 thousand miles or more in this age of technology! I also own a 96 GMC yukon with 156 thousand miles on it. It still runs great and has not given me any engine problems.

: the contact stated while driving at 30mph, a pinging sound was heard coming from the engine. The engine was turned off for 45 minutes. When the engine was restarted the pinging noise remained. Again, the engine was shut off. However, the engine would not restart the second time. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop for inspection. The repairman determined the engine failed due to oil sludge buildup.

Engine failure. We are looking for an engine to replace the 2. 7 that was in our 2001 Chrysler Concorde.
1999 Chrysler Concorde. I experienced engine failure at 105,000 miles. My mechanic has informed me that this is a problem that Dodge is aware of and that there is a class action suit against them.
1) timing chain failed @72000 miles without warning (Chrysler repaired after giving me hell for two weeks extended warranty ran out @ 75000 miles 2)last week the engine failed without any warning at 76000 miles. Chrysler will not do anything the extended warranty is over.
Bought a used 2000 Chrysler Concorde w/2. 7 engine 1 year ago w/51000 miles on it I drove it only 1 year and engine stopped was told by repair shop it would require a major repair job and around $4000. 00 to repair . Chrysler knew of this engine failure since it came out and should be held accountable for not recalling for repairs. Thoma strowbridge sr.
Consumers beware! contacted by impartial services group (for Chrysler) to settle my claim for $5,561. 16 for engine failure. They offere #300. 00 after I complied with all their requests for information.
The contact owned a 1999 Chrysler Concorde. The engine went out with only 49,000 miles on the vehicle while driving 55 mph. This did not cause an accident, they were able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road. There were no problems with the engine prior to this. The contact purchased the vehicle from a first time owner he had the vehicle for about six months. The contact took the vehicle to a repair shop, and they told him engine had to be replaced, and that car needed oil changes often. The contact insisted that during the six months that he owned the vehicle he kept up with the oil changes, and did not believe that was the cause of engine failure.
My engine failed with no warning at all while driving.

I have a 2001 Chrysler Concorde with 80,000 miles. The engine failed and I still owe $6,000. 00. A month ago I had it checked, oil changes, etc. . Then 4 weeks later I'm at a stop sign and it just shuts down. I took it to Chrysler and they told me that the timing chain broke which ruined the engine. This just doesn't seem right or fair. I feel this car should have lasted me longer than 1 1/2 years. I can't believe this is actually even happening. . . I can't afford this. Yesterday a friend of mine had the exact same thing happen while driving her 2001 Concorde down the highway. This happended to my aunt a couple of years ago too and her intrepid sat useless while she finished paying off the loan for it. I hope something can be done about this. Obviously something is wrong with the engines if it's happened to not only myself but also my friend and my aunt. Ho.
I own a 2001 Chrysler Concorde with approximately 63,000. My wife was driving the car, when the engine seized up. We had it towed to a Chrysler garage in shinnston, wv where one technician admitted to many problems with the 2. 7l engine. The garage manager, however, denied any problems. Although there were no injuries from this engine failure while driving, we have suffered severe economic injuries, as we have a car that is not paid for, not drivable, and will cost, at a minimum, $6,000 to fix. Although many internet sites tell of how many people are suffering the same consequences as we are, no one at Chrysler corporation will admit to this problem.
The engine failed while driving, the temp indicator went from cold to hot.

2001 Concorde with 2. 7 engine failed 4/29/05 required total engine replacement.
Vehicle made noise from what I assumed was the engine on the morning of the incident. I immediately called to make a service appointment and drove my son to school. On my way from school to work the vehicle ceased operating. I had stopped at a traffic light and the car died. No indicator lights had gone on. Other than the initial noise it had made upon starting that morning there was no indication that there was any problem. The car was towed to a nearby dealership, and I was told it was complete engine failure and that the engine would have to be replaced, no other alternative. I chose not to replace the engine since a new warranty engine would have cost almost as much as the car was worth.
Having just exited the expressway, vehicle stalled and lost braking and steering. Unable to restart engine, and facing an uphill slope, I was able to back my car through five lanes of traffic to safety at the side of the road. Had this spontaneous and catastrophic failure occured just one mile earlier, I most like would not have lived to file this complaint. There is no doubt in my mind that many people have perished driving this car, as a more thorough investigation of fatalities in this model will prove. Chrysler dealer wants $375 to find cause of engine failure and $7500 to replace the engine. This is a 2. 7 v6 with 58,000 miles.
The 2. 7 liter original engine failed due to sludge build up. Consumer stated the engine would knock. Contacted the dealer. This engine was replaced with a new redesigned engine. Dealer sent an investigator to test the sludge.
1999 Chrysler Concorde 2. 7 litre engine failed. Suddenly just stopped. Had a recurring problem where the engine would shut off and the steering wheel would lock up, whether I was driving straight or making a turn. Im one of many thousands of Chrysler victims.
Total engine failure of 1999 chrylser Concorde 2. 7l engine.
While driving 25 mph the engine failed. Vehicle had to be towed to the nearest dealer, where the owner learned that the entire engine needed to be replaced.
I suffered major loss in valu,e and my husband was in a very dangerous situation due to the failure of the 1999 concord engine. Y 1999 Chrysler concord had under 57,000 miles, and was diagnosed as needing a replacement engine due to oil sludge. Despite providing Chrysler will oil change records showing the timeliness of maintenance to my engine, they claimed no responsibility. I was told I needed to replace my engine and that it would cost approximately $9000!!! my husband was driving the vehicle on the highway at a speed of approximately 65 mph when the engine started smoking, bogged down and started to "die". In order to avoid a potential accident, he had to immediately drive over the shoulder and through the grass so he could safely get the car off the highway and onto the side of the feeder road. The cost to replace or repair the engine was much more than the blue book value of the vehicle. In fact, the blue book value was deflated at least in part to failing engines of the concord. I had little choice but to sell my car "as is" for a mere $1000!!! my car was in very good condition prior the engine failure and I believe the blue book value was approximately $7000.
2. 7 liter engine failure.
Engine failed while the consumer was driving. Vehicle was towed to dealer, who claimed that the consumer did not maintain the vehicle and the oil had built up. The engine needed to be replaced.
The 2. 7 engine failed at about 120,000 miles. The mechanic said the engine is sludged up, but I had the car routinely serviced. It is a 2000 Chrysler Concorde.
While driving 36 mph engine failed. As a result, power steering malfunctioned. The cause has yet to be determined.
Complete engine failure due to build up of sludge and bearing material in oil filter causing timing chain to jump and engine to fail. Luckily this happened at the auto repair shop, not on the highway, as many others have experienced. Have literally found hundreds of complaints on the internet relating to the Chrysler 2. 7l engine and its propensity to fail. Our 1999 Chrysler Concorde has less than 40,000 miles and has always received routine maintenance. We were among the lucky ones. . . Our engine failed while backing out of the auto shop garage. . . Instead at 65 miles per hour going down the highway. Interesting how there are no warning lights. . . Nothing to tell you this is about to happen.
Chrysler 2000 concord engine failed (locked up due to sludge buildup) 5 minutes after pulling it into my mechanics driveway. Has bee in repair for three months. Could have been fatal if I would have driven a little farther.
Engine failed on my wife's 2000 Chrysler Concorde while she was driving. Mechanic says rod failure. 2. 7l engine. 58000 miles on the car.
2. 7 liter engine failed on 1999 Chrysler Concorde with 65,000 miles. Chrysler claim they do not have a problem with this engine and has refused to offer any assistance on the repair. Estimated cost to repair is $6,000.
My 1999 Chrysler Concorde was maintained per the owners manual instructions yet the engine failed at 55,700 miles. Please advise why Chrysler has provided 50% of the cost to replace Chrysler engines for other customer yet Chrysler has not offered any financial help to replace the engine in my Chrysler vehicle?.
Car engine failure at 90,000 miles. Was traveling on I-75 at 70 mph, engine gave no warning, just had cam shaft sensor replaced and oil sensor replaced, this was the second time for both items in the past year. Have not gave authorization to replace engine, cost estimated at 6000. 00. Was told by mechanic this a problem with the vechile. Contacted Chrysler, was told I should have bought a new vechile instead of buying a used one. This only had 50,000 miles on it when purchased, but I travel over a hundred miles to and from work daily. Engine should not have failed at 90,000 miles.
Owner was driving about 20-30 mph. When making a turn, vehicle completely shut down loosing all power. Vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. The problem was undetermined, at this time. It was later determined that the engine failed due to sludge build up. The engine light did not illuminate to indicate any type of failure. The technician said that many 2. 7 liter engines have this problem.
While driving home on a state highway, the engine in my 2000 Chrysler Concorde all of the suuden without warning, quit. When towed to my local mechanic, found that the car had complete engine failure. This engine completely failed while driving on a highway with my wife and 6 month old in the car. Not what I would call a safe situation. Fortunately for us no one was hurt.
