Chrysler Concorde owners have reported 17 problems related to engine noise (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
2002 Chrysler Concorde 2. 7l engine. Engine noise due to excess sludge build up in engine even though suggested maintenance routine was followed performing oil changes at proper intervals. Clio michigan Chrysler dealership maintenance technician suggested a total engine rebuild or a used engine replacement at a cost of more than 3000. 00 dollars even though the engine has only 73774 miles of normal driving use. Upon further investigation it was discovered that there have been numerous complaints and subsequent class action lawsuits filed against daimler Chrysler corporation as a result of premature failure of the 2. 7l engine manufactured by the Chrysler corporation. I then filed a formal complaint with the Chrysler corporation in regard to the engine noise and possible premature failure and suggested repair cost and as of his date have not been contacted by the said corporation.

2. 7 engine in Chrysler Concorde just blew with 70,000 miles on vehicle. 4 separate mechanics stated that Chrysler had many, many issues with the 2. 7 engine. Oil was changed regularly and all fluids were at correct levels. No reason for engine to completely fail with such low mileage. Complete engine replacement to get vehicle up and running again. I believe this is a defective engine which is now costing me $1000's of dollars to repair. There are no events leading up to failure. Engine made noise for 1 day, I parked it, and 3 days later it would not start. Had mechanic checking and replacing starter, battery, etc. Finally determined the engine blew. As of today, the engine has not been replaced. Vehicle is currently parked.

The car head lights & dash lights dim when driving. If you play with control switch it sometimes makes them work right. Car stalls and doesn't want to restart. We have done the recall for exhaust. The a/c all the sudden started making noises when stalling and now does not work makes a hissing sound. I have kept this car in great shape and have it maintained & serviced regularly. I have had several sensors replaced and the engine light refuses to go off. I put it in the shop and they said it was because gas cap was loose. That wasn't the case, car is now sitting in driveway unable to start. Had the heads removed and fuel injectors cleaned and car still won't run.

Was on interstate heading to hampton virginia when had to pull over for traffic and sit for 20 minutes due to traffic accident delay, when I pulled back into traffic my car would not go over 10 miles per hour and was squealing and sounded like engine was falling out. Had towed to Chrysler dealership, said I need a new engine costing 7500. 00, internal engine problem and my warranty expired 5 months ago!! still owe 2 years on this car with only 63,000 miles on it. Took it for regular oil changes.

While driving down I-75, my 1999 Concorde began making noise that sounded similar to an object touching a moving fan. When I got to first exit, vehicle died, and at that point oil light flickered. I restarted and before I could get across 1 lane of traffic to the side of the road I thought that from the sound my whole engine would fall out of my vehicle. Car died again,as I managed to reach the side of the road. Had it towed to dealer and was told that the engine had "thrown a rod", and needed to be replaced. I asked what would cause it and was told "everyday wear and tear", it has only 70,000 miles on it. It will cost $5,000. 00 to replace, which I don't have!!! I have spoken to very reliable auto parts dealer about a replacement engine. He told me that the engine has a reputation for being the worst you could have, and that he would not put another 2. 7 liter engine back in the car. (didn't make me feel any better!!) now I find this website and I read 64 complaints with the same issue. Is there a place or phone number to someone who can help with this problem. As it stands now, I have a car that I can't drive, but still have to pay $7,000 on, and no prospects of being able to afford alternate transportation.

Engine began to make noise. Shut down & towed to shop. During diagnosis noise got progressively louder & timing chain jumped. Engine needs to be replaced. Car has 59,000 miles & was always well maintained. My research on the internet has turned up many Chrysler & Dodge 2. 7 litre engines from 1998 to 2002 with the same low mileage failures. Chrysler corp. Blames it on lack of maintenance, but that's hard to believe with so many identical complaints.
I have an 2000 Chrysler Concorde and was turning from one highway to next and car died right in middle of turn. There were no warning lights or loud engine sounds that would indicate something was wrong. Had car towed to Chrysler dealership and they said engine had froze up and would cost $7,100 to replace it with new engine as no used engines were available. Car only had 85,300 miles on it and had regular maintenance. . . Warranty had expired previous year. Called daimler-Chrysler corp and they were very rude.
I was stopped at a stop sign and pushed the gas pedal to proceed. When the gas pedal was pushed my car began to make loud screeching noises and lost power in the middle of an intersection.
2000 Chrysler Concorde with 2. 7l bought new started making engine noise on June 23rd 2005 with 57009 miles. June 24th failed to start attempting to take it to an automotive repair shop. Towed to shop and later told that the engine had failed blaming engine sludge. Currently having engine replaced. Read article in consumer reports August 2005 edition about engine sludge listing 6 different models of engines including the one in this car that seem to be prone to this type of problem. This article states that all the automakers listed but Chrysler have begun replacement or repair programs.
Dt: the consumer owns a 1999 Chrysler Concorde. While driving, the vehicle began to make a noise and the engine just shut off. Prior to this incident the blower worked but there was no heat. The mechanic said the engine was bad and this was a bad year for these engines.
Engine made a noise and before I could get to the dealer which is 5 miles away the car died. Told it was sludge and even though I had proof of oil changes, they would not fix engine but wanted $7000. 00 to replace.
I have a 1999 Chrysler Concorde that has been at the atlanta Dodge dealership since March 26. The engine has sludge build-up and will need to be replaced. The air conditioner was serviced before my trip to atlanta, yet I still experienced the unit making noises the day after we arrived. (thankfully, we arrived). Within an hour of the ac unit making noises, the engine died on I-20 west. I had the car towed to the dealership. I live in florida and purchased the vehicle only 6 â½ months old ago, it has about 79,000 miles. I had 3 regular oil changes during those 6 months, and one month before my business trip, I had a diagnosis test done at goodyear because the oil light was flashing on-an-off. Goodyear also changed the oil that 3rd time. Nothing was discovered. As a single parent of 4 kids, I was trying to rebuild my credit after a series of job layoffs. I have had auto rentals for the 5th week now and see no end in sight. Luckily, I did purchase an extended warranty, but no one is assuming responsibility for the defect, no one-- the warranty people, thrifty dealership (where purchased) or Chrysler! I am sinking further into debt. This is so unfair to the consumer. I am more than angry. I will never purchase a car again without checking ?mycarstats? (I did a very generic online search and had carfax). And will never purchase a Dodge or Chrysler again. I am now searching for a mechanic?s special to get around town and to work.
The car was purchased used from yankee Ford,so. Portland. With 60,000 miles on it. After a few days, the car seemed to idle high. Yankee Ford diagnostic could find nothing wrong. In 2004 fall, I took it in because it was running hot, the engine sounded rough. The oil changes were up to date. The oil was clean when the mechanic looked at it. He did a diagnostic check. Then he looked in the engine. It was very dirty. When the machine shop cleaned it, the mechanics said they never saw anything like it, it was caked with sludge. The car has been sitting in the shop while the mechanic has looked for a new used engine. The cost is very, very high and I still owe $7,000 on the car. It had less than 80,000 miles on it when I took it in.
Intermittently while starting the vehicle consumer heard a screeching noise coming from the engine. While the noise was present vehicle revved severely. After awhile the noise subsided, and the rpms would lower significantly. Several months later consumer started the vehicle and heard a discouraging sound. Engine sounded as if there was a hand full of tacks being grounded up. Dealer examined the vehicle, and informed the consumer that the timing chain snapped, and the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer refused to pay for the repairs although the vehicle has an extended warranty. The consumer didn't have the $5900. To repair the vehicle so they traded it in.
While driving the engine started making a noise then lost power. I had it towed to a local repair shop who believes that the "wrist pin" may have failed and the only way to find out for sure is to tear it down. They don't recommend repairing due to the amount of work and other potential engine problems but to replace the whole engine. Cost $2000 - $3000. I called Chrysler and received a file number. They will not commit to anything until a authorize Chrysler repair shop diagnosis the problem and of course I will have to pay for the diagnosis. The vehicle is only 8 years old and only has 55,000 miles on it. I would think an engine has a longer life than that!.

Consumer stated while driving heard some engine noise. Pulled off the road, and engine died completely. Dealer notified.
My engine started making a noise on July 4, 2003. When I had it towed to a dealership they said there was sludge in the engine and it was on us, we had also purchased an extended warranty and they denied our claim and the dealership we purchased the vehicle did to, we have all oil receipts and I've done alot of research on the 2. 7l engines and there are alot of the these engines with this same problem (sludge build up) the quote to repair my car is $9500. 00 and I cannot afford this, it has been almost 7 months and my car is just sitting in my drive way, I'm making monthly payments on this car and it is no good. Please help all of us to do something about Chrysler. It's us little people against the big corporations and we have no chance at all.
