Chrysler Concorde owners have reported 10 problems related to engine shut off without warning (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was driving to work to pick up paycheck and car started to have a pinging type sound in engine, opened hood, noticed no antifreeze (which was just checked 5 days earlier and was at correct levels!!), the engine shut off. I really wish we could get to Chrysler about the faulty engines 2. 7l on this vehicle!!! I bought it from an older couple and only put 5000 miles on the car. Now I'm stuck with no car for myself and 5 year old child!!!.

I was driving down the highway on way to work one morning, as I had done many times. I was going approx 55 mph and made a decision to pass a slower veh that was traveling ahead of me. As I passed the other vehicle my car shut down, without any warning of lights or anything the engine just stopped. It has not started since. It needed to be towed from the scene. It was definitely a safety hazard. I am lucky that I was able to coast to the edge of the road safely. I have been making a $300 per month car payment on a vehicle I can't use unless I spend $3000 to replace the engine. I am a single mother and I do not have the means to do that. I has infered with my safety and my job.
I was driving at 40 mph on a busy highway and my engine shut off. I was able to go to the shoulder of the road and avoid any traffic problems. Had my vehicle towed to the repair shop , and they indicated that my engine was blown and needed replacement. I only had 82,000 miles and changed my oil 3 to 4 times a year. This was well within the guidlines. Had my car towed to the dealer and they were great. They set up a communication with Chrysler and instead of having to pay $8,100 for an engine replacement, they offerred to pay $7,000 and I had to pay $1,000. I was happy with the result, however, I don't know why I should have liable for any amount.

Oil light went on yesterday morning. I immediately stopped at a service station and they put in a quart of oil. On the way home from work last night, oil light was still on. I stopped at another service station and they put in another quart of oil. Minutes later, the engine shut off while I was driving. I pushed the car into a nearby gas station and had the car towed to the dealership this morning. They just informed me that I need a new engine - minimum cost will be $6,400. They advised that these were not great engines and Chrysler is not proud of them.
My wife's 1999 Chrysler Concorde (2. 7 motor) shut down up at wal mart. I got a call from my buddy who said he thinks she needs a battery. I go up there, buy a battery, put it in, start the car and it is knocking to high heavens. I pull the dipstick and there is a grease like substance on it. I immediately go into wal mart and buy oil. I fill the crank case up and have her start it up again. I knocks for about fifteen seconds then sounds somewhat normal. I instruct her to drive home and I will follow her. It is about four miles to home. She makes it three miles and the car just shuts off and she struggles and gets it off the road. This occurred about two hundred yards from an exit and a red light. I called a tow truck in and had it towed to the dealer where I bought it. They called the next day and we went up to see them. They never once mentioned any problems with this engine. They simply suggested we either replace the engine which is very expensive or buy a new car from them. We bought a car because she and I work and both of us work thirty plus miles from home. To boot, they sold us another Concorde!!! unbelievably I found out about this widespread problem with these engines today, 8-18-08 at a dealership. They were offering us very little for a four year old Concorde and stated that engine as the reasoning. I was furious. We traded it off, lost our tails-again- and moved onto a more reliable foreign named vehicle. I started surfing around to make sure that this foreign dealership was not lying about the engine and found thousands of complaints. I figured I should do my part against these robber barons and enter the arena as well. The worst part of this whole thing is we refinance our house years ago and paid off that 99 Concorde to get ahead. It blows up months later and we are back to square one and actually worse off because the 04 wasn't worth anything either.
While driving engine shut off. Vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. After inspecting the vehicle sludge was found in the oil, and the engine needed to be replaced. Vehicle was maintained as the owner's manual required. The consumer stated that the temperature at the time of failure was in the low 20's an she is 84 years old.
While driving to work this morning (at the end of my commute to work) I lost complete engine control three times. The rpms each time went down to zero, pumping the gas pedal repetedly seemed to bring them up each time. Until finally the engine shutdown (the power steering was lost at this point). The car ended dead on the off-ramp near work. My car is a 1998 Chrysler concord with a 2. 7 l engine. My dealer (joe jacobby's out of warrenton, va) told "it is the best engine Chrysler makes", before I bought it! what a laugh!

Engine shuts down after driving more than 90 miles with out stopping.
While driving the car shut down with out warning or lights. Total shutdown without power steering on busy road. The engine locked up due to engine sludge. The engine had to be replaced with new block because the poorly designed engine could not be rebuilt due to the fact that the cylinder walls are too thin. Used engines are not available because the problem is so widespread.
