The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that as children attempted to exit the vehicle from rear driver sliding door, the door failed to open as needed. The contact attempted to manually open from the outside of the vehicle and was also unable to open the door. The contact stated that while driving to the dealer to service the door, the door ajar warning message appeared on the instrument panel accompanied by a warning chime. The contact managed to shut the door completely which corrected the failure. Once the vehicle was at the dealer, the failure was diagnosed and the contact was given an estimate for repairs. Upon investigation, the contact discovered manufacturer communication number: 08-027-18(electrical system) which was linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Problem 1. Service airbag light. We bought our brand new 2017 Pacifica the summer of 2017. Within a month, we took the van in to the dealership due to the service airbag light. They told us they couldn’t replicate the issue so they couldn’t fix the issue. The van has been having the same issue for the past 7 years, the service airbag light randomly popped on especially in the summer/winter when hitting a bumper or making a sharp turn. We took the van in numerous times but they couldn’t detect any issue or read any code due to it. Recently months, it has happened a lot more often, finally we are notified the issue was due to the faulty occupant restrain module which could cause the airbag not to deployed during an accident or to deploy during a normal driving. Problem 2. U0001 can bus issue. The check engine light would randomly be on and gives a u0001 code. Sometimes it would affect the drivability of the car. The car stalled on us at a red light. The car couldn’t accelerate after pressing the brake and made loud noise when press the gas at a very busy traffic situation. The car’s rpm got stuck when driving. The mentioned above randomly happened numerous times in the past but more often during recently years. If you research on the website called Pacifica forum, you will see a lot of canbus issues with the 2017 Pacifica making this family van a hazard or death trap. My service airbag issue might or might not due to the can bus. After 7 years, thousands of dollars spent, so much runarounds from the dealership, we still don’t have an answer. Here’s the website I mentioned. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was driving, slowing down approaching stop sign and the car just shut off leaving me stranded in the middle of a road, blocking traffic. It is a start/stop push button so there was no way to get it in gear to move it. Everything was completely locked up. I had my child in my car with me. If we had been 10 minutes further into my trip, I would have been on the highway and we probably would have been killed as a result of the car just shutting off. I had to have it towed and am waiting to hear what the repair shop finds but they are expecting an electrical short. I see this is a problem with the hybrids of the same time period. I think you need to investigate the non-hybrid cars as well.
Engine ticking,blind spot not working.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. While the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed through an intersection, the automatic braking system engaged independently, and the engine shut off. Despite the sudden failure, the contact's wife was able to restart the vehicle and resume normal driving. The contact then stated that while driving at slow speeds, the failure reoccurred with the lane departure assist message flashing on the instrument panel. The manufacturer was notified after each failure had occurred; however, the contact was not offered any assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 67,950.
The vehicle presents almost all warning lights then acts very radically . The engine will stall, won’t go in gear . It will happen while vehicle is in motion. Super dangerous. I’ve had it to the dealer 3 times . They can’t seem to find a fix.
Passenger sliding door fell off.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality; however, the failure recurred while driving, and the vehicle independently shifted to park(p). The immobilizer warning light was illuminated. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign numbers: 23v010000 (electrical system, hybrid propulsion system) and 18v049000 (electrical system, engine and engine cooling) that were previously performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving my car and approached at a stop sign. The car stopped and froze. The shifter knob lights were out and I was unable to move the car or shift the gears into neutral . ( the engine turned on ,but I could not move my car. ) I had the car towed to my autodealership. Since then, the car has repeatedly started, but the shifter is frozen. My dealership has spent a month telling me they don't know how to fix the car. The dealership has been trying one thing after the other, they tell me, yet within a week my car is not functioning. The dealership installed new programming. A week ago. . A few days afterwards, while I was slowing down in city traffic, the dashboard filled with error messages and the car became extremely bumpy to drive. Today, I just had the car towed again to the dealership. The car started, but the shifter was not functioning with an error message "service shifter. " the car shifter randomly worked once the tow truck arrived, but still had the engine light on. I await to see if the car can be fixed.
Intermittently my van will lose power, all dash lights will pop up, active parksense unavailable, service required , blind spot alert temporarily unavailable , service shifter, fcw unavailable service required, service electronic stability control will pop up on the dash and in the message center. Code p0420 has popped up on a reader. Several trips to the dealership purchased at, and they cannot figure out the issues. I have 2 kids, this is a major safety concern. I had it shutdown on a highway 3 weeks ago with my 9 month old in the van. Recall list says everything was repaired, but it seems there needs to be more recalls. These vans are not safe. Recall them all. Chrysler is going to end up with a lawsuit. I think this is a major defect on the electrical and computer systems. When driving the van it will show I'm doing 70 but really 35mph. The van will rough idle. Again these are all intermittent issues that happen all at once. It seems like the van will reset itself once it's sat overnight. We just bought the van in may 2024 and this started a few weeks later. Very frustrating. The dealership won't buy it back, they can't figure out what the issue is. I.
The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The contact stated that on the second attempt to start the vehicle, the brake pedal was stuck on the floorboard and failed to return to the normal position. The contact stated that the vehicle could not be jumpstarted. An independent mechanic was contacted and advised the contact to depress the brake pedal harder to start the vehicle. The contact stated that a friend assisted in depressing the brake pedal harder, and the vehicle started; however, the windshield wipers engaged independently, additionally, the steering wheel made an abnormal sound and became difficult to turn. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle on another occasion, the rotary gear shift dial lights failed to illuminate, and the message "service shifter" was displayed. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or a dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v348000 (electrical system) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,270.
The screen stopped working I couldn’t see the backup camera and the radio wasn’t working and I haven’t been able to open the door or unlock the door. I went and replaced batteries in the remote at dealership and it still does it from time to time. And the screen has gone black several times. I haven’t touched anything to cause it. I had to turn the van off and back on again 2 times before I could get it to work again.
While I am driving the vehicle will shut completely off without warning. I have to pull to the side of the road and restart the vehicle.
I was pulling into a parking lot and had my foot on the gas. The gas pedal suddenly stopped allowing me to accelerate. The dashboard read "place car in park" I lost power of the vehicle. I was able to pull safely into a parking space and then I put the van in park and turned it off. I started it up and it started without issue. This was a very scary situation as I almost hit a shopping cart where I was forced to pull in as I had no power and was coasting in a parking lot full of cars.
I purchased my 2017 in 2023. Within a few months, problems began. When we brought the van back to the Chrysler dealer to have it checked with their obd2 code reader, multiple codes pulled up… first thing “needing” to be replaced was the hood sensor because the display said the hood was open (even though I was simply stopped at a red light). The auto start/stop light was also coming on and staying on. The dealer said that would go away after replacing the sensor. That repair was done (I believe) in April of 2024 at the Chrysler dealer (and the auto start/stop light came back on a week later, both batteries testing fine independently of one another). Next thing “needing” to be replaced was the accelerator pedal module because my van would start shaking, not accelerate, and go into (what I now know is) limp mode with all warning lights displaying on almost every right hand turn. This absolutely puts my safety and the safety of my four children at risk when it suddenly decides to not accelerate!! that repair was done in June 2024 at the Chrysler dealer. Next thing to happen is the check engine light illuminating. We checked the coolant and it was almost empty! this should not be happening! we filled with coolant, but have to do this every few days now. The check engine light has come back on and is still producing many codes, the worst of which is p0303. This code has pulled up every single time we’ve had the van scanned at the dealer. The dealer has had my vehicle on multiple occasions for multiple days each time and never once told me the severity of this problem. Their words: we just go down the list, starting at the top. P0303 was not at the top, and now I have to pay the price for their incompetency! my van would not start and had to be towed to the dealer yesterday, 7. 17. 2024. I’m waiting to hear from them, but I can guarantee this is a head gasket/engine failure issue. Who can afford to just replace an engine?! this is infuriating and beyond frustrating!!.
This vehicle’s uconnect “infotainment” system began to malfunction after only 20,000 miles or so. At first it was only intermittent resets but they progressed over the last two years or so until now it is constantly auto-selecting every feature in the system while driving. I have experienced random selection of the heating/cooling system, auto parking brake, random nav selections, radio/audio changes, display units, language, seat heater, and more. Basically every selection available through the touchscreen it does randomly while driving. It is hugely distracting and even uncomfortable. I have had it in twice seeking a fix but the dealer seems unable to address it.
Unknown while driving, the electrical system seemed to malfunction causing the lights to flash on/off, the rear windshield wiper to activate, the horn was blaring (quick repeated beeps, with occasional blaring), the dash indicated that the parking brake could not be used, indicated that the airbag system was not working, indicated that the driver’s side seatbelt was not connected, amongst other warnings that I cannot recall. The abs brakes were not working, nor was the power steering. The car indicated that it needed to be put into park, and allowed for the turning of the dial; however, the dash indicated that the vehicle was moving too quickly to shift into park. We were able to make a turn onto a street with an uphill incline from the road we were driving on; and the brakes stopped the car - using a lot of force as the abs braking system was still malfunctioning. The vehicle was put into park and the parking brake indicated that it was active; but of course could not be trusted as the indicators on the dash had been so haywire just moments before. While the vehicle was “off” the horn was still blaring (both short beeps and intermittently long blares), the rear wiper was still active (while in the off position), and the interior lights were flickering. This continued until the red connector was disconnected from the battery. The black connector seemed to make no change, connected or not. When the red connector was reconnected, the electrical issues seemed to be replicated with the horn and rear wiper. The vehicle was towed and we have no current answers. This was extremely dangerous as we lost all power and control of the car. We were driving, on what is oftentimes, a very busy street.
Occasionally when we start the van the shifter lights don’t go on and while the he engine starts, the shifter won’t move so we are stuck. It can be a few minutes up to 30 minutes we tried to replace the batteries and the shifter. It was fine for a few weeks after but continues to be intermittent after that few weeks. Also sometimes only some of the shifter lights go one and several alarms go off on the consel including fcw unavailable and service shifter. I am concerned one day we will be stranded.
My vehicle now 3 times just stops on me luckily 2 of the 3 times I was going maybe 10 mph. Only once I was going 35 and it just slams shut I am being told they are no active recalls however this is a problem and going to cause an accident when this happens my drive light on the dash is flashing as well as on the knob to put it in to drive. This is just one of the many problems with the vehicle the transmission constantly jerks you around. The sliding doors have a mind of their own. I am a single mom of 4 and I purchased this car almost bran new and I only have 3000 left to pay on it and I can barely drive it I dont even like going around my neighborhood in the vehicle for fear it will just stop. It has also left me stranded when everything just stopped working in the car and that turned out to be a recall that I was notified about til a few weeks after it left me and my kids on the causeway bridge. And before that alot of time my car wouldnt even start it was something with the battery for starting the vehicle. Chrysler should be sued for making this vehicle it is horrible I got it to have a reliable car for me and my kids and now im paying almost 500 a month for my car to sit in my driveway because no one wants to ride in it.
I am reporting a serious and ongoing safety defect with my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica (VIN: [xxx] , current mileage 51,875). The vehicle stalls and shuts off unexpectedly while driving, including in intersections, creating a life-threatening hazard. I have reported this issue multiple times to carmax and prestige Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram in las vegas, nv, but it remains unresolved. Key points: • first reported to carmax on 2/6/2024 (invoice #[xxx]). • battery health test passed on 3/1/2024 (invoice [xxx]). • dealership later misdiagnosed the problem as a dead battery and charged me $837. 95 for a replacement on 10/11/2024 (invoice #[xxx]), which did not fix the stalling issue. • I returned within 7 days with the same safety complaint. • multiple service attempts have failed to permanently resolve the issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
From the date of purchase, the check engine light came on and was told it was a software/computer issue. 3 months into having the car it stalled on the freeway. Abs light came on, and engine repair, and several other lights. I was told it was the two batteries, the aux and the car battery. Replaced both at the dealer. A year and a half later, the car stalled again pulling out of my garage. A-light with circle and exclamation point came on. Turned car off and the a light turned off. Now engine light comes on and off whenever. Had it looked at and it is showing a repair for fuel line kit, which was repaired last year and mechanic said it does not need to be repaired, another software/computer error. Engine light will stay on for a day and turn off for a week, then turn back on again. Car has been serviced so many times at the cost of $200 per visit to the dealer. I am afraid it will stall on me again and the issue is not repaired and falls under the recall for 2017 models that were stalling.
As I am driving down the street in the middle of traffic the van will cut off and all wheels will lock , I buy a new battery and wires and it continues to happen, not able to drive the expressway scared of causing an accident. The dash will start blinking and the electric will start flashing radio shuts down and the whole car is down for a few minutes like it need to reset.
The vehicle was diagnosed with a short in the electrical steering cable. It started off with just a minor glitch when steering which caused the car to simply caused the car to shift into neutral but was quickly resolved by shifting the gear into park and then into drive. This resulted in a really major glitching in system while steering to where the car was shifted into neutral in the middle of driving and will not turn off the van or allow you to shift the vehicle into park. It also caused the windshield wipers to stay on without the ability to turn them off as well. This is an extremely dangerous issue for a commonly used family vehicle especially one travels the highway everyday. I’m just grateful we’re in our neighborhood going at a low speed with little to no cars traveling. On the highway this could have caused serious vehicular damage due to accidents and injury or fatalities for the person who has to push the car out of the road and the family riding in the car from impact. This negligence of the manufacturer will cost my family $4521, which is just simply unfair. Im requesting thorough investigation on this matter with the a recall on all vehicles who can possibly have this issue as well.
The car's lithium batteries caught fire to the point of smoldering. This happened at the end of the charge cycle. The car was parked in our garage and if the fire department did not come to help, the fire could have intensified and burned down our whole house. We are very thankful we caught it so quickly. No warnings or issues were apparent with the vehicle when it was parked and put on the charger.
Engine code for misfire fixed and still has a shake, looking like head gasket. Transmission jerks upon shifting.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - internal charging system or vehicle battery pack malfunctioned & caught fire. Vehicle is available for inspection now, but not sure about when it is removed from our property. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - it was a big fire! close to structures, vehicles & dry foliage – super lucky it didn't spread. Smoke was very noxious and affected our entire neighborhood. Neighbors have reported respiratory irritation since the fire. I now have a cough, burning throat and headaches. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - there's a burned out van at the end of my driveway. . . Specific instance of this problem does not need confirmation similar issues are reported on the internet. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - not yet. Chrysler says it'll take 2-3 days for issue to be "escalated". Insurance is sending someone. Fire department hazmat crew verified that the battery pack is now "cold" but toxic chemicals are a public safety hazard. Oakland fire incident #91242. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - July 2022 the vehicle refused to charge & displayed a "turtle" icon. Took it to the dealer and told of the charging/fire recall. Stopped charging until all the recall parts were available which wasn't until August 2023. After repair, we were told the car was ok & it was safe to resume charging the car. Other details: - the vehicle caught fire while charging, engulfed in flames, had to be extinguished by fire department, total loss. Car plugged in at ~4:30pm and we heard a "pop" at ~8:20pm. So the battery had reached 100%. Ran out and there was small fire dripping from middle underside of the car– quickly spread & consumed the entire car.
While driving vehicle, car shifted to neutral then park then neutral, while in drive moving down road. Numerous warning came on including "service shifter", check engine, front end collision sensor, abs brake sensor, along with a message to put car in park before shifting . The day before a warning of service shifter came on and the car was unable for a few minutes to shift out of park. Then the codes suddenly went off. Took it to auto zone to check codes and it said no codes were found or stored. First time was September 25, 2023. The next time when it shifted itself out of drive while driving was September 28. Drove home from getting checked for codes with nothing showing up. Drove 5 minutes on October 2, and a bunch of random codes flashed. Took to shop and they found no codes. All warnings went off. Said nothing anyone could find wrong. Said nothing showing up and was fine to drive. October 5 was driving home, 526 miles later with no warnings , and suddenly stopped driving while in motion on road. Same codes flashed. Shifter stopped working. Car wouldnt start or shift. Completely broke down. Had to be towed to dealership. They say transmission needs to be replaced and it is only 500 miles out of warranty. The same 500 miles we had to drive to get it to throw codes. Had previously taken in when I thought transmission was problem when it was dropping gears. They said software update. Continued dropping gears after they "fixed it" and when I called they said it had to relearn how I drove. Almost had 2 major accidents now when it stopped completely on its own while driving.
While driving, the car malfunctions stating to have the shifter serviced. All of the alerts start going off and it feels like my car isnt shifting properly. Some times when I start it, the shifter will not respond. I have taken it to be serviced and it seems to be electrical.
The vehicle sometimes abruptly shuts off when it is stopped while running such as at a traffic light. It also abruptly shuts off when at a low speeds (0-5 mph). This occurs after the car has been operating for several minutes. This presents a safety hazard because the unexpected shut off can occur when the car in a precarious traffic situation. A quick message flashes on the display before the shut off. Usually too quick to read but seems to say something like, “service electronics”. Occurs at at least once a week. Car is driven 7 to 10 times per week so this incident occurs at least once out of every 10 trips. These incidents have been occurring for at least 2 months.
Battery light comes on, power steering goes out, start/stop function switches in and out of accessory mode, then total power drain and vehicle will not turn over or maintain a charge. Vehicle is available for inspection. Safety was compromised by lack of control of steering and vehicle shutdown in a roadway. Issue has not been reproduced by independent services or dealer or other representatives. Battery light appeared, etcs light came on, voltage meter drained very quickly until total loss of power.
All the warning lights on dashboard light up engine losses power then stop, after setting for two hours the engine restarts, the engine light is only light on. Drive for one or two days light goes off like nothings wrong. Then two or three day’s latter it will do it again. This has been going on for about five months and dealer can not fix it.
At least once a week, the rear camera stays on when I put the car from reverse into drive. I will be driving forward and can see the rear of the vehicle through the camera system on the radio for a minimum of 5 seconds. This happens randomly with no associated pattern. I just saw it was an issue for the 2018 model, and I am telling you it is an issue on the 2017 model too. My vehicle fails to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 111, "rearview mirrors. ".
While driving on the highway, our car started to make a jerk, like it was having trouble shifting gears, which is weird because we were driving through kansas and the road was smooth and flat. Then suddenly the car lost power, but did not turn off. Pressing the accelerator did nothing. We turned on the emergency flashers and pulled over to the shoulder, shifted into park and then turned the car off. We waited a few moments then restarted, everything appeared fine. We started to accelerate and merge back into the highway when it started to happen again. This time, our dash reported a message of "shift into p to start. " we again pulled over, waited even longer, and restarted again. After about 5 miles, it did it again. After several occurrences of this, we eventually looked to have it towed to the nearest dealership. However, now it also has trouble starting. This is incredibly concerning, losing power going 75mph.
Computer code p258b - electric vacuum pump - after fixing code p000b with an oil change, the p258b code caused the check engine light to come back on and after further investigation found that the wire that comes from the pump looks like it has started melting. The external wiring casing is no longer covering the wires and the piece plugged into the pump looks like its splitting. I finally found the part through the mopar site but is referred to as an air pump: product 68274999ad. Luckily the car has not stalled or caught on fire. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance reps, or others. I plan on ordering the part to install myself as personal funds don't allow me the luxury of taking to the dealer to have this done. I will keep the part if the manufacturer wants it to inspect.
The van stalls and completely turns off while coming to a stop, while stopped, and while accelerating from a stopped position. I have to wait a few seconds, then push the brake and the ignition switch to restart the van. The van acts as if it's been parked. This has happened 6 times in the last four days.
