Chrysler Pacifica owners have reported 34 problems related to gas recirculation valve (egr valve) (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chrysler Pacifica based on all problems reported for the Pacifica.
The oil filter housing and oil cooler unit is made of plastic, mounted to the central engine (metal). It warped with heat and caused oil to leak into the valley of the engine and cause failure of bay 3 and 5 fuel injectors which caused multiple cylinder misfire. My engine experienced this problem for the first time in a busy intersection. With the engine heaving I had to pull over and tow the van to a shop. The faulty oil cooler unit was confirmed by dealership diagnostics and was not covered under warranty. I have the original part. This a recurring problem with many other drivers online and an aluminum aftermarket part has been made to solve this problem. The original part should be recalled and replaced by Chrysler. The egr hosing is made of brittle plastic and split/cracked of its own accord. I have pictures and most of the original hose.

Recall fail recall done in 2019 for egr and car is continuing to fail again years later. While driving car stalls and shuts off.
I purchased 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in 2021, I started having issues my vehicle after my 30 day warranty expired it seemed on and off at times now more noticealbe the start/stop feature failed to work properly. The vehicle stalled when the brake pedal was released I had to restart the vehicle. The contact disabled the start/stop feature. Additionally, while driving at night in the rain the vehicle acted up or started to blow hot air from the ac unit at 75 degrees with out the option to change it only way to restart was to turn on and off the vehicle. I also had problems with the coolant being low, and coolant was added. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the check engine and coolant lights were illuminated. The battery was faulty, and the start/stop feature was inoperable. A pressure test was performed however, the mechanic was unable to locate a coolant leak. The vehicle was taken to two mechanics egr cooler valve was cracked and my engine was damaged as well as the pistons. The vehicle had to have the whole engine replaced which was an expensive expense I had to pay out of pocket, the dealer did not cover the damage. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 104, 000 or so. I still do not feel safe using this vehicle it is my family vehicle, please advised. I have invoices but not at the moment I had to replace the engine, the battery, the coolant container, and the radiator for a total amount of about $5000.
I have had engine problems for over a year now. My car has had constant issues with rough idling and also jerking while driving. The jerking has been fixed for now but the rough idling has became worse to the point where the car feels as if it will stall out. My car has been at the dealership for repair since 12. 22. 22 and is still there today 1. 11. 23 - I was told by another repair shop (while getting brakes and an oil change ) that my car had 3 holes in the crankshaft and that was a problem because there should only be 2 holes. The dealership has replaced an egr and now is talking about something on the engine to replace (but not the whole engine) and they have still not looked at the crankshaft to see if there are the incorrect number of holes. This is my primary vehicle and no one can seem to fix the problem.

30,390while cruising on interstate, (2/6/21, 3:17 pm, drizzling, 55 degrees f, at 70 mph in cruise control) instrument panel goes black, engine shuts off, power steering goes off, rt passenger window descends all the way, wipers go off, cruise goes off, gear indicator switches (on it's own from drive to neutral, to park. Coasting to side left of side of the (under construction) shoulder (rt shoulder is blocked by jersey barriers) instrument cluster comes back on. I shift from park to neutral, to drive, with no effect on drivability. I stopped off the roadway and shut off the ignition. Instrument cluster has battery and fcw warning lights on. There is a distinct smell of an electrical fire. I check under the hood to look for obvious fire sources. None are apparent. I checked the battery connection. This appears as normal for this vehicle, not tight but not loose either. I checked the fuse box. I did not have a fuse indicator tool with me and did not attempt to pull fuses. Seeing no obvious fire sources I shut the hood. Five minutes after stopping I tried the ignition again and the car started. The rt passenger window was to 3 short of closed, then it stopped. I pulled back on the highway and resumed the trip. The fcw warning light was still on. Cruise control was unavailable. The driver's side mirror warning indicator was on. On 2/7/21 I checked the car. All power devices on the rt front door were not active. I checked the fuses and determined that at least one had failed (f47). I attempted to replace the fuse. In doing so the rt passenger window immediately returned to the fully closed position, the fuse blew as I put it in, the smell of burning electrical wire was apparent inside the cab, but not under the hood.
While driving, my son, who was seated in the passenger side of the third row, noticed that his cupholder area was extremely hot. I pulled over and confirmed. We drove on and I told him to check. It stayed very hot for the duration of the drive. At the first visit the dealer said that they added insulation between the interior panels and the coolant lines in the area, though as an engineer I understood that said insulation would do nothing if it were squeezed tightly between the panel and the pipe. We noticed no change and reported the problem to Chrysler, who refunded the visit but took no further action. A repeat visit to the dealer had them saying there was less than five degrees difference between the hot spot and the surrounding area. I used my infrared thermometer to prove that the section of the interior panel is over 130 degrees whereas the surrounding panel is about 65. You can see this in the video I link to below. This is a safety issue, as second degree burns can result from temperatures that high, and it could start a fire. Repeated attempts to contact Chrysler were ignored. Https://youtu. Be/gtbecz5chtg.

Engine stalls after idling for long period of time. Spent several hours driving at neighborhood speeds to house hunt. This would include idling with air conditioner going for several minutes before moving again. While beginning to move after being at idle for several minutes the car stalled and would not restart. Shut off car for a minute completely and tried to restart. It would idle but would not respond to pushing on the accelerator. After two more minutes with all power off, the car restarted. We drove a mile and the car stalled again. Was able to pull off safely and wait again for a couple of minutes. Restarted and got about a mile again before stalling. Waited three minutes and restarted and got two miles before stalling again. Pulled off waited again, this time was able to drive home. Thank goodness the traffic lights were with us. This car went into the dealer for the same reason last year for the computer reset/reprogram recall. It has happened twice since then. This situation would be almost impossible for any dealer to replicate as it takes several hours of driving and idling to occur. I will mention that I live in phoenix, az and the temperature was apx. 110 degrees on the day of this occurrence on Saturday July 20, 2019. The car has less than 7000 miles and was purchased in November of 2017. This does not occur under similar driving conditions when the temperature is below 90 degrees. For more explanation when the stall is being to occur, the accelerator no longer responds to the push on the pedal. You will have several seconds to pull off the road before the call engine stalls out completely and you lose brakes and steering.
Vehicle started having issues starting, the vehicle would not start once the start button was pushed. Once it did start and put into reverse or drive the vehicle would not move. I would have to turn the vehicle off, and on again several times before it would start. The vehicle would shut off and then turn back on while on the interstate whenever speed was reduced. The headlights would spontaneously shut off at night while driving, and could not be turned back on. The inside dash lights would also turn off making for a very unsafe situation. The air control also did not work properly. It would be very hot at 68 degrees, and would not blow a steady flow of air. It will speed up then slow down.
Wife and children in the van in August 2017 driving at around 55mph on highway. Message center told her to place vehicle in park before starting. Vehicle lost all power while in motion and she coasted to side of road. Would not start, towed to dealer dealer drove for 10 days before faulted on them. Chrysler repaired a "faulty egr. " August 2018, message told her that auto on/off needed service. Vehicle lost all power at 30mph on residential street. Took to dealer, they replace a battery for auto off/on. September 2018, while pulling into garage van put up message telling her to place vehicle in park before starting. All power lost and vehicle died. Van has been at dealer for 29 days. Currently has data recorder installed, and we are in contact with Chrysler enhanced customer service to figure out the problem.
2018 Pacifica with 5450 miles on it. While driving on highway at 60 mph with adaptive cruise control engaged, vehicle sudden appeared to stop running. Vehicle had been operating perfectly normal with no indication of a problem until it started to quickly lose speed and had no response from accelerator pedal. Message on dashboard said to place vehicle in park and press start button. I'm not sure if the engine was actually idling or if it had completely stopped running. I did not notice a loss of power steering or brakes. Coasted over to shoulder, placed in park and tried to restart. The engine would start, but only idle at about 600 rpm. Accelerator pedal had no effect on engine rpm and I could not shift out of park. Shut the vehicle off and restarted it several times with same result over a 3 minute period. Then I switched the auto start/stop button into the off (defeat setting) and was immediately able to restart the vehicle, which then operated as normal. Since this incident yesterday, the vehicle has operated as normal and has reported no faults through the u-connect application. Clear weather with temperature near 100 degrees when this incident occurred. Both keyless remotes for the vehicle were inside the vehicle, mine in my pocket and my wife's in her purse. Before heading out on this trip I had used the remote start function and allowed the vehicle to run in remote start mode until it timed out. Then had remote started the vehicle a second time before switching it to normal run mode before leaving the parking lot. This was about 40 minutes before the event happened. It occurred to me that the messages that were displayed on the dash while the vehicle was inoperable were similar, or possibly identical to messages displayed during the remote start function, which is why I thought of switching the auto start/stop button to the defeat position.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving at unknown speeds, the rpms decreased and the vehicle stalled. Additionally, the passenger side low beam headlight was flickering. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to key Chrysler Jeep Dodge (2020 n detroit st, xenia, OH 45385) where it was diagnosed that the exhaust gas re-circulation valve and the computer module needed to be replaced. Our 2017 Pacifica was repaired in the fall of 2017 under recall #t23 (egr valve function defect). Now, our vehicle is experiencing the stalling problems described in the more recent u01 recall. The Chrysler dealership refuses to apply the u01 fix to our car, stating that the earlier recall fix should have fixed the problem. At this time, the vehicle experiences intermittent stalls at low speed and at idle, and has slammed to an immediate stop if the issue occurs when moving. It is unsafe to drive.
I took my car to the Chrysler dealer for a routine oil and misc filter change on October 4, 2017. I was shown the deterioration/disintegration of the cross member/cradle rot of the car. Of course, they showed me the cradle rot issue after the $334 of work they'd done! I'd inquired about a vibration or loud hum sound coming from the front end of my car on March 22, 2017 when I had an earlier oil change. On the service order, it was noted as "engine performance concern," but I said I thought it was with the acceleration or rotation of the tires that was making the sound. "the technician supposedly checked it out and said it was found to be operating normally at this time. They said it was probably "tire noise. " today, I now understand why the front end of my car has been louder than what I remembered it. Today I just discovered the actual issue with my car is typical of many 2005 Pacificas. I'm sure I am not the first 2005 Pacifica owner that has had their vehicle serviced at their facility, and that they did not have knowledge of this problem with this particular year of Pacificas. This problem has been occurring for a significant extent of time; I'm quite disturbed that the dealer's negligence in not informing me of this problem much earlier can or could result in serious injury to myself as well as other drivers. I'm sure I am not the first 2005 Pacifica owner that has had their vehicle serviced at their facility, and that they did not have knowledge of this problem with this particular year of Pacificas. I still see several 2005 Pacificas driving on the streets, roads and interstates. I just hope these Pacifica owners will be made aware of this serious issue. I have religiously taken care of my car because I really love it, and I intended to keep it for a few more years and several thousand more miles. I'm looking for a car. Now.

The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving various speeds, the vehicle started to jerk and then stalled. While the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle accelerated at a rapid speed. The contact was able to control the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the egr valve, water temperature sensor, and intake manifold gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 155,753.
Stalls while driving, losing steering, braking, lights. Too many close calls while driving. Have replaced, egr valve along with couple of other sensors and continue to have issue with it growing in severity and occurrences.
Have owned a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica for almost 3 years now - bought it used and enjoy most features of this car having waited for a few years to purchase one after having recurring (and costly) repair issues with my previous Chrysler (cirrus. ) however, for the past year, I've experienced intermittent stalling issues with my car - while operating/driving and I am now terrified of the what "ifs" since I thought we'd resolved the issue just over a month ago when replacing my egr valve. This was a huge expense particularly since I've been underemployed for a while now, but then again today while driving with my young daughter the issue happened again!! I too have had my share of being inconvenienced by taking to multiple mechanics and repair shops saying they need to "mimick" the issue in order to find the problem. Since this issue occurs intermittently, how is that exactly suppose to happen??? Chrysler corporate really needs to step up and address this issue ASAP since this appears to be a major issue and possible defect on the products themselves used when manufacturing this car and/or a huge defect of this particular make and model of vehicle, in general! Chrysler - please hear us before you all are faced with an even larger penalty than the ones used to recently bail you out - please don't make a further mockery of the process by ignoring the voice of your consumer on such a major health and safety concern. To echo the words of another complaint I came across in my research of this specific issue. . . The price to replace a defect is much less than that of a human life!!.
The contact owns a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and shook violently at any speed. There were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the mechanic diagnosed that the egr, O2 sensor, and front motor mount were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle had the same symptoms as listed in the recall for NHTSA campaign number: 06v432000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 186,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Pacifica. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and the egr warning light illuminated. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the egr and motor mounts with the hydraulic units needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000.

Our 2005 Chrysler Pacifica has the motor mounts and the engine cradle rusted out to the point where it's integrity is compromised because it's so bad. The recall Chrysler has set forth for their recall of tho does not cover my vehicle because it was made a different month, but I have no idea what Chrysler changed after they issued the recall. It is a design flaw that allows water to sit and continually rust and corrode and Chrysler will not cover this.
While I was driving down the road my car stalled and then cut off in the middle of the road. My car started back up right away but as I continue to drive home it continued to stall and shut off. Thank god there was not very many cars on the road because someone could have gotten seriously hurt. My car has been down since April 2014 and it is now September 2014. My husband and I have put so much money into this car because the mechanics can't figure out the problem. We have had replaced the egr valve, O2 censors, throttle position sensors, idle air control valve, and a tune up and my car still runs the same, like crap. The computer is not diagnosing the car properly and neither are the mechanics.

Engine cradle has rusted through and made the car unsafe to operate for my teenage son. A very expensive replacement is required. Structural integrity should have a much longer lifetime. Chrysler was contacted and declined the opportunity to make things right.
2007 Chrysler Pacifica. Consumer states experience with mechanical problems. The consumer stated at 2,900 miles, a smoke condition developed in the vehicle's engine. A diagnostic revealed the front axle seal was defective. At approximately 3,800, the smoke condition developed again and the consumer was informed that the power transfer unit needed to be replaced. At 25,893, the power transfer unit had to be removed and replaced after it was discovered that there was a leak in an input seal. At 26,906 miles, the engine mount was replaced; at 48,062 miles, the blower motor was replaced; at 48,490 miles, the blend air door of the blower was replaced and the rear axle seals were replaced due to leaks; at 63,852 miles, the pvc valve, fuel pump, egr valve and battery were replaced and a short in the wiring to the alternator was repaired; at 65,479, the vehicle broke down and had to be towed. It was determined the computer needed to be replaced. At 82,439 miles, the motor mount failed and was replaced, an isolater was installed and power transfer unit was leaking again. The consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer, after driving it for 15 minutes, because it was in worse condition than when she left it with the dealer. The engine was racing at 6000 rpms, while driving at 50 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the engine and a banging noise could be heard upon turning the steering wheel. The dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. However, when the consumer drove the vehicle for 20 miles, the malfunction indicator light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and after an inspection, the dealer stated the transmission control module relay was faulty. The consumer was assured the issues were fixed. However, on her way home, the malfunction indicator light illuminated again, the engine was racing and the entire vehicle jolted every time she shifted into, drive, park or reverse. The power door locks failed and the consumer was locked inside the vehicle for several minutes.

We have had multiple issues with this vehicle since we purchased it. First issue was the cv boots that had completely disintegrated. This occured 62,123 miles. Next issue that is still occuring today and deeply concerns me is that the accelerator pedal sticks from time to time. Not sure what causes that to happen but it scares the living day lights out of me on a weekly basis. Shortly after that the check engine light came on and the panel read gascap. Well we bought a new gas cap and the issue was not resolved. Since then we were told it was the fuel pump that needed to be replaced. Again, more money out of our pocket so unfortunatly we have not had the repair done since we don't have the money to pay for it. Next and biggest issue off all is that while driving down our street I heard a noise that concerned me. When I got home there was a tapping under the hood, the tapping has been continuous since then. The original milage at that time was 85,625 miles. After multiple trips to several different mechanics it has been diagnosed as a tapping lifter. Well this is a very very expensive repair. So easiest thing for us to do is to trade in our car. . . . Not the case. Our car now has no trade-in value because of the lifter issue. I am beside myself and I firmly believe that these are all issues that Chrysler should address under warranty. The maintance on our vehicle is done on a regular basis to avoid issues like this. I feel quite cheated by Chrysler and wish I could request a refund for all of the repairs we have had to do while owning this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning while driving 65 mph. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for the failure where the dealer performed a diagnostic that was unable to locate the failure. The dealer replaced the egr sensor, the etc sensor, the ecm sensor and the wiring harness but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to stall without warning. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer. The failure mileage was 42,000, and the current mileage was 66,000. Updated 03/27/lj.
I just want to voice my feelings on this company (Chrysler) concerning the Chrysler Pacifica 2005 awd why wasn't this car recalled as a whole. It is a piece of crap I bought this car as a reliable family car being that I am a single mother of 5. I researched this car to make sure that it was going to be the right fit. I have had to buy 3 batteries for this car which to me seems to be a lot. The car burned oil constantly and no one could tell me where the oil was going, I had to have the motor mount changed I had to replace the egr valve failed my emissions because of it right after meaning seconds after it was changed the check engine light came back on while at the shop showing that the catalytic converter needed to be changed! not only did I have to pay for the egr valve but I also had to buy a two year waiver for my emissions in order to get my tabs because there was no way that I was going to be able to afford a catalytic converter. Got the catalytic converter changed and the check engine light went off for about a month or so but came right back on. Had to get the radiator repaired and now there is 5 different codes popping up p0305, p0404, p0736, p179, and p0720 im sure these codes mean nothing to you but I needed to address. I don't understand how so many complaints were made and these are from families people who spend a little more money on something that is not a Mini van to end up with some crap!!!!! no one wants to spend their hard erned money on car repairs when I have to make life decsions on food on the talbe or fix my car well we are eating rice. I am attaching links from online complaints. . Read more...
I was exiting off the freeway and came to a stop. As I accelerated out of the stop a gush of hot radiator fluid came shooting out of an area right above the gas peddle and burned my right ankle. I sustained second degree burns and was treated at my local doctor's office.
The engine light on the dashboard lit up one day. Shortly thereafter, I experienced a very rough idle. It did not stall however, but continued to idle and run very roughly. Upon examination, the dealers service department determined that the TSB #09-010-06 had described the issue and it's recommended fix was applied. That being to replace the valve spring retainer locks, combustion clean, and replace and test the map sensor. This TSB fix had the adverse effect of causing the engine to surge rather abruptly when starting cold, and applying light pressure on the accelerator. It's more noticeable when backing out of a parking space and having the wheel turned at the same time. It seems that having the steering wheel turned presents an additional load on the engine that the computer senses as a need for additional engine speed. This surging also happens when pulling forward into a parking space with the wheels sharply turned as well. Three subsequent visits to the dealer yielded different answers without being able to fix it. On one visit, the service director, called to tell me that he had been in contact with Chrysler engineers in michigan about the issue and would like to try a couple of things. Namely to check the fuel pressure, adaptive memory, and map sensor. After a test drive he conceded that the problem remained, but not to the degree that I was complaining about. He offered no other alternative fixes, but said that he would remain in contact with the Chrysler engineering website that issues TSB's etc. I guess that is supposed to satisfy me as he states that he has done everything he could. As this is unacceptable to me, I felt prompted to file a complaint on the website as I feel that the surging problem is a definite safety issue that needs to be addressed. My next step is the write Chrysler directly per their warranty information booklet.
2006 Chrysler Pacifica with 13000 miles stalled making a left turn at a very low speed. There was no warning the vehicle was about to stall. I was turning left in a residential area, driving around 10 miles per hour or less, when I let off the brake to make a left turn, the steering while tightened up and my dash lights came on (the mil malfunction indicator light did not come on). I put the car in park, turned off the engine, and restarted the vehicle. Arrived at my destination few minutes later. An hour later when my family and I were leaving to go to another store, the same scenario; I was turning left to enter the parking area when the steering while tightened up and my dash lights came on. I put the car in park, turned off the engine, and restarted and did not stall the remainder of the trip. It was 90 degrees outside and sunny, and I had more than 3/4 of a tank of gas. Vehicle was manufactured 9/05. This is the same problem that many people have reported with 2004, 2005 and 2006 model year Pacificas. This is an extremely serious issue that concerns us, obviously for safety reasons. Please help.
2006 Chrysler Pacifica with 1650 miles stalled making a left turn at a very low speed. There was no warning the vehicle was about to stall. I had just come off a major highway where I was traveling approximately 50-60 mph for about 10 miles. I exited the highway and slowed to about 3 mph, when I let off the brake to make a left turn, the steering while tightened up and my dash lights came on. I put the car in neutral, it started right up and did not stall the remainder of the trip. It was 60 degrees outside and sunny, and I had more than 3/4 of a tank of 89 octane gas. Vehicle was manufactured 9/05. This is the same problem that many people have reported with 2004 and 2005 model year Pacificas. This is an extremely serious safety issue that obviously Chrysler hasn't resolved.
I purchased my 2004 Chrysler Pacifica approximately one year ago. I currently have over 18,000 miles on the vehicle, which has been plagued with problems. My engine light has stayed on almost continuously since July 2004. The service department can't seem to repair this problem. The egr sensor failed on a recent trip and my vehicle began to lose power and make loud noises that could be heard by other drivers on the road. The ball joints have had to be replaced. The axle seals have been replaced and now an axle has to the replaced. Either my vehicle is the only lemon in the orchard or Chrysler has a serious problem with the Pacifica.
