Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Chrysler Pacifica - part 1

Multiple times while stationary when starting the car, the push button starter will fail to start the engine. Upon second attempt to start the car the starter has a prolonged series of cranks and finally starts. The concern is this has happened multiple times after just purchasing the car. This could be a safety issue if it happens while driving, and engine shuts off, or could strand us without the the ability to start the car.

Engine has shut off on its own 3 separate occasions since purchasing this vehicle 4 months ago. First occasion I was coming to a stop at a traffic light and the engine shut off. Second time I was starting up from a traffic light and the engine shut off. Third time I was driving approximately 35 mph and the engine shut off. All instances were on a city street. I had to press the start/stop button. Then press it again while pressing the brake to turn the car back on after putting the vehicle back in park. This issue is widely described on older years of the Chrysler Pacifica.

While I am at a quick stop - stop sign, rotary, light, intersection - my vehicle will shut off without warning, causing me to have to put the car into park, restart, and put the car back into drive before I am able to continue in motion. This causes me to stall for 30 seconds - 1 minute with traffic piling up behind me.

The contact owns a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shutdown and ceased without warning. The contact called crown Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram fiat (2120 chapman rd, chattanooga, TN 37421; (844) 372-1835) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The contact stated that vehicle was unsafe to drive. The contact stated the failure was like NHTSA campaign number: 18v049000 (electrical system, engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was 60,028.

Start/stop indicator comes on and van will some times just shut off while driving or while stationary. Dealerships have replaced the batteries main and ess battery 4 times in 3 years and problem continues to persist. Dates of occurrence, (stationary) March 9, 2018 (came off the lot with two dead batteries), (stationary) another time date unknown, (moving city streets & stationary) December 5-12, 2019, and (both moving highway & city street & stationary) September 7-15, 2020. (incident information below is of one of the many incidents. No crashes every, the times it stopped while driving on city streets, I was able to move over or get it started again before an incident occurred. All event where under 50 mph, and between 0 miles and 36550 miles on the vehicle.

My Chrysler Pacifica shut off twice while I was driving in a pkwy. Everything turn off, engine, display everything. It took around a min to turn back on. And five min after it made a big noise and it shut down again.

My car engine suddenly shut down on stop at red light in an intersection and then happen again during driving on the city street the engine shut off again and unable to restart. The dashboard showed message of �shift to parking to start� had to tow the car to dealer. Another experience with engine shut down was on the freeway of 210 but engine was able to restart after turn off the car for few minutes.

I returned home from driving a half an hour in my vehicle and when I pushed the start/stop button to turn the vehicle off it would not go completely off. The engine turned off but the sensors and radio would not turn off. Normally it shuts off when you open the door and it still would not work. So then I messed with things a bit and made sure all doors were shut. When doing so the back left door would not latch all of the way. It would go to shut and the open again before latching.

My engine shuts off when it is idle. The start/stop battery was replaced 5 months ago.

I believe my vehicle is have the issue of a known recall on this type of vehicle: engine stall or loss of power steering assist a loss of power steering assist or a stall can increase the risk of crash. I was driving and suddenly the power steering went out and the vehicle came to a stop. I was instructed on the screen to put the vehicle in park. Once I put it in park the vehicle shut off. I tried restarting it. The brake was stiff and would not push in. When I pushed the button it went to "acc" then when I pushed it again it went to "run" but the vehicle was not on and I could not change the shifter out of the park position. This was very dangerous and happened while vehicles were driving behind me causing people to suddenly come to a stop.

Had auxiliary battery replaced approximately 5 months ago because the ess was not functionally properly. No problems until today 11/9/19 while on vacation in washington DC. The engine shutoff totally at stop light. Put car in park, depressed brake, vehicle started and ess warning light stayed on and no other lights came on, pulled out of traffic into parking lot and vehicle was slow to accelerate at first, turned vehicle off myself, let it sit a minute. Restarted vehicle with no problems and ess light was off. Called dealership where I purchased vehicle and Chrysler customer service about what happened. Neither on had any ideas or suggestions except to take to dealership. Dealership did say might be oil change was due or oil was low. Had oil changed about month ago. Said they had not received any complaints about this 11issue.

While driving my 4 year old son the other day the vehicle just shut off and it flashed "turn to p (park) to start engine"- this freaked my entire family out. I do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle anymore. I am up to date on all my maintenance and recalls. I have also been experiencing a "bucking" when you turn the vehicle and accelerate. It is as if the transmission is slipping. I am so frustrated and feel like I wasted $36k of my hard earned money.

First time apex August 6, 2019 - started car in driveway. Proceeded to drive out of driveway and engine shut off. Second time was September 7, 2019. In a parking lot at store started car. Proceeded out of parking lot onto a small street to a stop sign at end of street. Pulled out of street onto 4 lane highway when engine shut off. Were able to just make it to the center turning lane to stop and restart car. Car was purchased at a Chrysler dealer used on July 5, 2019. No notice was given to us regarding issues with this make/model.

My family and I was at the airport when it just shuts off. Will start fine but stalls when put in drive(. Reverse works) I had to have my car towed from the airport. My mechanic cannot find the problem.

Purchased 2018 Chrysler Pacifica limited in March 2019. Within 2 weeks, two electrical recalls and failure of safety locks and autistic 3yo locked in car. Turned car on with ac to cool, took daughter out and put in carseat, closed door and driver door locked. Had spare in house. Serviced at dealership and told all fine. Three weeks later, sunroof would not close, and daughter locked in car again for over 30 minutes. Grandmother had to bring spare key to publix. Service once again said all was fine. Safety locks, we were told, would not lock if key was in car which it was. Serious safety issue for my daughter and there has been times engine shut down.

Auto stop/start malfunction. After stop at light, engine shuts off but will not restart. Has occurred at least 10 times. After latest failure, parked engine self started in garage, caused CO alarm to sound at 1 am.

The vehicle has 9700 miles on the od. As it was slowing for a stop as it was still in motion the traction control light came on and the engine shut off forcing the vehicle to abruptly stop. The vehicle had to be placed into park and turned back on to continue.

The car shuts off while driving. I turn the ignition off and it cranks back up. It does this almost every other day. No codes come on the warning lights do not come on the car just shuts off. I know this is an older car and I just bought it but this is a hazard can cause an accident and potentially kill someone. After looking online this seems to be a common problem with these cars even the new models and I can't understand stand why there hasn't been a recall to fix this issue.

Problem occurs at slow speeds or when stopped. The car completely shuts off. Then we have to quickly switch into park, restart, then switch into drive. This has happened at least 8 times while driving. It is extremely dangerous. Chrysler said to turn of front collision warning collision until they have a solution. Since that temp fix, the car fail 2 more times on 3/6/19. Once while making a left turn it died before the turn was completed, and once more coming out of a parking lot turning onto a main road. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be rectified immediately before someone has a crash. The car just shuts off. The car is only a few months old and it has happened several times.

Wife was driving the vehicle and it shut off while approaching an intersection. Vehicle shut down, gave warning that it must be in park before restarting.

The car has lost power on several occasions. When stopped at a stop light/stop sign car shuts off completely and loses power. I brought the car to the dealer last week, they completed an update- however just today the car lost power on a main road which happens to be right in front of the dealer. I pulled in completely shaken as I had my daughter in the car and cars were coming from behind not realizing I am stalled in the road. I have left the car at the dealer. It is so dangerous and scary as I bought this car as a family car and I can't feel comfortable driving it.

Vehicle shut off on my 7 times already 2 on highway and 5 on streets. 2 on highway was driving around 65 mph when dash went off all lights went off no power steering or hazard light function. Had to pull over to median at a complete stop. The others were variant from coming to a stop all the lights shut off the gauge needles went crazy. And the others were driving at lower speeds. The worse is trying to muscle onto a parking lot or median with no power steering or lights.

On multiple ocasions, the engine shutoff feature shut off just as I was trying to turn left on a busy street. This caused the vehicle to pull about ten feet into traffic and then it stalles for an unsafely long delay before the vehicle would get out of traffic. It is a problem when is decides to shut the engine off just as I decide to turn left. It causes the vehicle to stall and then lurch as it tried to come back on. I usually remember to shut this feature off but it always comes back on every time you restart the vehicle. Ken garf chystler dealership was unable to have this feature turned off by default. This is a dangerous engine shutoff feature intended to save some fuel. I don't care how much fuel it saves if it causes an accident! the ai for this needs refinement and it needs to be disabled when left turn signal is engaged so this doesn't happen.

While approaching a traffic light the car came to a stop and completely shut down. I had to turn shifter of the car from drive to park and then restart the car. This is the 4th time this has happened. Scary time as the first time it happened I was making a legal k turn and the car shut off as I stopped the car before putting the car in reverse. I was t'd in the middle of the road. The first time occurred was 11/23/18 then again 12/18/018, again 12/21/18 and today 1/3/2018.

Driving at 70 mph, my Pacifica just shut off. Had no control, had nothing. Managed to pull over to the side of the road. When called into the beaver county Chrysler dealership I was told, "we just sell them, we don't make them. " this vehicle has been one issue after another. The sliding doors not closing, the dvd player not working, the radio not working, the sliding door on driver's side still not working and they had to completely replace the gas tank because I couldn't even put gas in the tank it would shut off and wouldn't let gas get into the tank. Now this. We were scared for our lives and then told, "we just sell them we don't build them. " this is not a safe vehicle.

Could not start Chrysler Pacifica for one hour Friday morning. Finally starting, the engine shut down while moving at low speed approaching a light (at time thought it was the gas saving feature) and was very difficult to start. Drove it to dealer Monday, after a very difficult start for a fix yesterday. Dealer could not duplicate problem so I drove home, parked, and today it would not start. I had to have it towed back to dealer. Concerned engine could shut down at speed locking controls. As cause is unknown, I believe this is a safety issue for Chrysler and a heads-up to the NHTSA. The problem began with about 150 miles on the odometer and the van now has about 475 miles.

The vehicle was in motion on a city street just driving straight. The engine shut off while driving. The display indicated to put the car in park to start the vehicle. The power steering shuts off. I was not going fast at the time and was able to stop, put it in park, press the brake, start the vehicle, and put it into drive. However, I was in traffic and almost was rear ended by another vehicle who was fortunately able to stop in time. This issue affects the brakes, engine, steering, power train and all around safety. I was lucky that I was driving and that my kids were not in the car. I was going to pick them up.

I was stopped at a stop sign, and when I tried accelerating the vehicle wouldn't move, it has just shut off, when I tried turning it back on, after putting it in park it wouldn't turn on. Luckily someone helped me push it out the way, and after waiting 10 minutes, the vehicle just started back up normally.

My 2018 Chrysler Pacifica keeps stalling while driving. I found a recall from 2017 that matches my car exactly! recall u01. Dealership as well as Chrysler, keep telling me that my vehicle year is not affected but my car keeps stalling at intersections! I have almost been hit two times with my child in the car. They have had my vehicle for more than 42 days in the service department and say they cannot recreate the problem in order to fix it. I even have video tape documenting what happens. If I stop at a light, or am driving very slow my vehicle shuts off! an indicator on my dash states to put the vehicle in park and re-start it! this is not safe when you have people behind you ready to go at a green light and you are stalled! I refuse to drive this vehicle on the road and jeopardize my families safety. Please investigate this issue. I am stuck paying a brand new lease payment for a vehicle that I am not able to drive!.

Today I was driving as usual and of a sudden the car started beeping. At the same time I noticed I lost control of my car and the screen on the dashboard shows shift to p to start. The vehicle shut off as if the "key" had been turned off in the middle of traffic while moving, on the highway accompanied by the message "shift to park" my wife shifted to park then restarted it, the vehicle continued to repeat this multiple times until she was able to make it to an exit ramp and park in a safe area. This is the second time this has happened in the span of about 8 months. It has been to 2 dealers, both times we where told that no codes where stored internally therefor they didnt know what to repair. Our van has been modified for a wheelchair for our disabled teenager because of this we have no choice but to keep driving it in this condition. Not to mention how undependable it feels.

I was driving the car on a 5 lane highway going approx 50 mph when the car shut off. The gas pedal stopped working and the car began to decelerate. On the console it told me to then put the car in p to start the car. I was able to pull over and restart the car however it happened again within 10 minutes of driving. It has proceeded to happen 10-20 times and cars is now in the shop. This is a very dangerous thing to have happen when you are driving.
