3 Hatchback/liftgate problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 05/31/2006

At about 6:00 pm on Wednesday, may 31, 2006, our 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was parked in our driveway. It had been driven to and from my work place (about 44 miles round trip) that day, without any problems. Weather was about 72 degrees with sun and low humidity. The car's two front windows and the sunroof were open to let in air. While we were in the house, we heard a noise. Upon investigation, we found that the glass portion of the Pacifica's rear liftgate had a hole about the size of a soccer ball in it and that the surrounding glass had shattered, but had not yet fallen off the vehicle. There was no one around the vehicle and there was no golf ball, baseball bat, etc on or in the vehicle which would have indicated how the glass had broken. The dealer will be contacted as to repair of the liftgate window. Pictures were taken of the damage.
