I was driving today and it seemed that my steering was extremely hard to turn if I was mashing the gas, harder to turn to the right side of the car. If the car is coasting or I am breaking the steering is easier to control. I have stopped at my parents house on the way home to research what could be happening with my car and found this disturbing news. 17 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

My mechanic informed me that the engine cradle on my car is completely rotted out and is a serious issue which is a fatality hazard. He gave me a copy of Chrysler "extended warranty period" written notice for this issue for Pacifica model years 2004-2005. I called them and they stated that I'm not covered because my car was built in 8/04 and not between 3/04-4/04. The notice does not state that the cars need to be built in a particular month. Their statement makes no sense to me and I think they are lying. All of the signs of their notice is what I have have been experiencing for over a year, the "corrosion resulting in drivability vibration and/or shake. " could you please help me I love my car but can't afford the repair cost and they need to stand by their awareness of the defect and written warranty coverge notice. The notice is labeled as "[xxx]". Thank you. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

19 Structure problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

I took my car to a mechanic for an oil change and I was shocked by what I've seen. The engine cradle is rusted out and it also has cracks on it. It is a real life-threatening situation where the structure can fall out at any moment. I could imagine myself driving on the highway and be involved in a car accident because this car manufacturer builds cars like this. I'm shocked. I have a son that we drive in this car and now I prefer to have it parked than put my son's life in danger. I've never seen such corrosion and it is definitely a problem Chrysler needs to address to all cars. It seems a lot of people are having the same issue even in florida so don't tell me that it's a normal situation due to salt on the road.

20 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

Found out in December 2013 getting tires, that engine cradle had serious rust and to watch it. Engine light came on in January 2014, and car needed transmission work. Mechanic took frame off and it rained rust particles from the horribly corroded engine cradle frame. Called Chrysler, wanting to speak with supervisor. I was told that a supervisor would call me within 24 hrs. Never happened. Called again a week later, and that operator found out my original message was never delivered to a supervisor. And now I"m waiting again for 24 hrs for someone to call me.

21 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

Was informed by service center that the engine cradle was rusting thru. Svc center advised that this is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. Contacted dealer who looked into the issue and said it needs to be replaced due to rust damage. Dealer advised that Chrysler extended the warranty for 04 & 05 Pacifica's for 10 years or 150000 miles. Chrysler sent a letter to affected people on Nov 9, 2010. ( we are not part of the affected cars according to Chrysler) the dealer advised that our car was not part of the affected vehicles. Parts for replacement totaled out at 1329. 55 plus tax and labor. Dealer said to contact chyrsler cust svc to see if there is any thing they can do. Contacted customer svc and they advised that the car does not fall in the affected cars and there is nothing they can do. Have sent a letter to Chrysler with no reply on this issue. So no we have a dependable care in very good condition that is not safe to drive and the manufacture is going to deny any replacement or repair.

22 Structure problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/14/2014

Engine cradle is rusting out from inside frame out, popping large holes in the frame. Had to replace. Chrysler won't help at all with parts or cost.

23 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

I took my car into get the power steering fixed and the mechanic told me that the engine cradle was rotting out and I would have a couple months, at best, before it could become very dangerous and even deadly.

24 Structure problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/11/2014

The engine cradle cross member of my vehicle has rotted to the point that the car is unsafe to drive. There is a service note for a small window of Pacificas included on a warranty for the same problem, but only for the cars built within a certain date. Chrysler is aware of the problem, but will do nothing to correct it. The cradle incorporates the engine mounts, lower control arms, and steering. If it is not replaced, and breaks while driving, there will be a complete loss of control of the vehicle. I know that my vehicle is not the only one with such a serious issue.

25 Structure problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

My 2004 chrylser Pacifica was purchased new in Aug 2003. I brought the car in for an oil change at dealership. Dealer contacts me to have me see the car while on a lift so that I may view the extensive rot of the engine cradle. The underside of the vehicle is totally fine as far as rust except the cradle that is full of holes. Cost to fix $2400. Contacted representative at Chrysler - two representatives stated that although there was a bulletin sent out to extend warranties on some 2003 and 2004 Pacificas, mine is not one of those included and since it was an extension of warranty up to 10 years, it would not be considered under that extension anyway. Clearly this is a defective part. Chrysler knows this as evidenced by the extension to fix these in the first place. A clear safety concern as the engine is not secured. This should be a recall!.

26 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

My vehicle's engine cradle and/or subframe is completely corroded and rusted. I have one very large crack in the engine cradle and another forming. The bolts and many other parts are rusted and rotted through. Chrysler is aware of this issue and has been for a long time but, since my car was made 6-8 weeks outside of their extended warranty period, they have refused to help me (while at the same time offering relief to others in my exact situation). During my initial discussion with their customer service, a supervisor told me not to call again and, despite not knowing the full extent of my particular problem, told me that Chrysler would "absolutely" never do anything to help me. Chrysler has also refused to explain to me what was done differently to my engine cradle and subframe compared to vehicles made on March 31, 2004, the day the extended warranty ran through. My wife and I have owned this vehicle since 2006. It's the only car my 4- and 5-year-old daughters have ever known and to learn now, years later, how dangerous the vehicle is in saltbelt states makes me terrified about any other problems with Chrysler vehicles that the company has chosen to keep secret. I am fortunate that we learned of the problem before the engine cradle failed altogether, which clearly could have led to serious injuries and/or death.

27 Structure problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 12/10/2013

Chrysler service bulletin: 13-001-10 service bulletin no. : wb-d-10-34 NHTSA id number: 10045080 motor cradle has rusted out structurally unsafe, will not pass inspection may cause a severe dangerous accident. Chrysler has extended the warranty on 2004 Chrysler Pacificas that were produced February 2004 - March 2004. My car was manufactured in may 2004. I have the same symptoms the cars produced only 30 days prior! my repair needs to be covered.

28 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Front engine cradle on my 2005 Chrysler Pacifica has rusted to the point that the engine/transmission could fall out while driving. Chrysler says that have no plans to issue a recall for such a condition. I called Chrysler at 1-800-Chrysler and they said it was not covered. The vehicle is in perfect condition and has 109,000 miles on it.

The engine cradle is rusting and the engine will soon fall down to the ground if not replaced cost + $2,000 +.

31 Structure problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

I am the original owner of this 2004 Pacifica. The front engine cradle is corroded severely with the welded seam having areas of separation as well as rust through holes in several areas. Chrysler had a recall for a narrow band of vehicles manufactured between Feb. 23, 2004 and March 31,2004. My vehicle was manufactured Jan. 12, 2004 before the window of the recall. Failure of the cradle could result in the engine dropping from the car causing a severe safety issue. It appears Chrysler responded with a token recall that does not encompass all vehicles effected. I have made three attempts to have Chrysler correct this problem, or offer some partial compensation with no success. I view this as a severe safety risk where Chrysler has a known problem that they are failing to address adequately.

32 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

We bought our 05 Pacifica a couple months ago used we were aware of the engine cradle being lose we then found out it was corrode out on the right side of the motor and steering rack problem and was wondering if there is a recall on either of these items we see that alot of 05 have the same problem were can I take my car to get it fixed.

33 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I took my Pacifica in to get the tires rotated and was told I had a cracked frame and they would not rotate them. I checked to see if I had a recall and I did not. Now I have a car that is worth less than what it would cost to fix it. Judging by all the complaints this is a serious problem and I am just thankful my family didn't get hurt because of it. I was told the subframe hold the engine so it is not safe to drive because of the crack.

34 Structure problem of the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I was having my vehicle inspected and was informed that my engine cradle was rusting. I pursued this problem on line and found out that this is a recognized problem with 2004 Pacifica's and that Chrysler has offered an extended warranty due to manufactures defect. However there is only a one month period (in-service date) that applies to the warranty. It is apparent that this is a common safety problem that could result in serious injury and Chrysler not only made no attempt to contact buyers, but also fails to accept responsibility for the manufactures defect.

35 Structure problem of the 2005 Chrysler Pacifica

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

Subframe corrosion - rust.
