The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The check engine light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who tightened the gas cap. In September 2007, the check engine light illuminated again and as a result, the clock spring was repaired. The contact felt that there was an enormous amount of electrical failures that led to the vehicle stalling while she was driving approximately 60 mph. There was no power in the vehicle because of the failure. The stalling occurred twice before the most recent failure, all of the warning lights on the dashboard flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealership but the dealer could not find the cause for failure and therefore could not repair it. She called the manufacturer and was instructed to take the vehicle to the dealer to have it inspected. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The current mileage was approximately 34,000. The failure mileage was 365.

The defects in my vehicle are primarily related to the electrical system failing resulting in the engine shutting off. All of the power goes out; the engine dies and comes back on after either a few moments or a few minutes. During this time the vehicle is very difficult to steer and near impossible to brake. This occurs intermittently, on multiple occasions while at speed on the interstate. To date (1/16/2006) this has occurred 18 times on my vehicle. The dealership has told me on many occasions that they are not confident on what is causing this problem. This condition has been witnessed by others. I bought this car new in April 2005. I began having problems with it at around 12000 miles in September 2005. This problem is still present and DC does not know what is causing it. They offered a similar 2005 pt but refused to buy the vehicle back. From what I have found so far, there have been 9 similar occurrences of this and none have been solved. Thereby, I refused to take another 2005 Pt Cruiser. I do not have any confidence in the car so it sits parked while I must continue to make payments while this matter goes through the courts. They also stated that they were only attempting what daimler Chrysler directed them to do. The dealership has attempted to fix this problem with no success on four occasions (10/06-10/07, 10/20-10/24, 10/24-10/28, 11/07-11/17). The dealership promised to make necessary part replacements and then drive it one to two hundred miles after. They did not do either. They said that they do not have the manpower to have someone drive it several hundred miles to replicate the problem. Most times the car is on the highway for several hours before it dies. I have given the dealership plenty of opportunities to fix this problem. This is a very serious and severe safety issue for both me and other drivers on the road.

Two major complaints:
1. I have been stranded on 3 occasions in deserted parking spots - with my car just not starting - the ignition will not work and there was a complete electrical failure / discharge. Road side assistance we called on each occasion and only on charging the battery would the car start. The first instance happened when the car was only 3 months old (its a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser, 4 cyl non turbo , automatic - bought in March 2003) - the second similar instance was 3 months later and the last one was a few weeks back. I have taken the car repeatedly to the dealership and they cannot find anything wrong with the battery or electrical system but they keep saying that maybe something is drawing extra power. They refuse to replace the vehicle or take any further action. 2. I read about the recall notice released in June 2004. I took my car to the dealership and they refused to rectify the problem saying that they had not received any confirmation from Chrysler headquarters. I called up Chrysler and I was told that I would receive a letter in the mail authorizing the recall. Its been a month and the letter has not been received - the Chrysler company does not return calls and on listening to my problems says I will receive a letter in the mail. The dealership will not touch my car unless I have a letter - what does Chrysler want us to do -they sell us inferior products and now do they want us to burn !! please help and take action against this company before any more lives are lost.
