Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chrysler Pt Cruiser based on all problems reported for the Pt Cruiser.
Our Pt Cruiser has approx. 63,000 miles on it. As you're driving our car, all of a sudden all the engine lights come on and the gauges go down and the engine shuts off. When you pull over and restart the car it starts and this may happen again further down the road or may not happen again for a few weeks. This happens both on city streets and on the highway. This has been happening more and more frequently and for over a year. The last time I was in for maintenance it happened just as I pulled into the dealership, yet when the code scan was used no problems were indicated. This is extremely dangerous. Someone is going to get killed on the highway if that hasn't happened already. Since we have no other vehicle we must use this car. I have been asking online if any other cruiser owners are having this problem. There are many people having the same problem but no one has been forthcoming with a solution. I also noted some cruiser owners are talking about starting a class action suit against Chrysler. I really don't want to go that route if I don't have to. I just want my cruiser fixed.

The contact owns a 2001 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that the fog light warning indicator illuminated and smoke appeared from the steering column. The contact was able to pull the vehicle off the roadway, turn off the engine, and restart the vehicle. The contact smelled burning wires, but there were no flames. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact found a recall for the fog lights online, but was unable to provide further information. The failure mileage was unknown.

The warning lights on the dashboard go haywire, giving false readings. The gas tank is full, but the false alarm says empty - and the car stalls. I had to pay $1221 for the replacement of elecronic cluster, later on $660 for another electronic part. This didn't help and the car kept giving false alarms. The car would stall on highway.

While driving, the indicator lights on the instrument panel start flashing. The gas gauge, the speedometer, the seat belt light, and other lights, except the check engine light, flash on and off intermittently. Sometimes when the lights are flashing and the indicators are flucuating back and forth, the car has slowed as if it was going to stop. It has not stopped yet but the car did engage in some bucking action. If I stop the car and start it again after putting it in park, generally the lights do not flash for the rest of day. I took the car to my mechanic many times in reference to this issue. They could not find the source of the problem. My mechanic told me to take the car to the dealer. I took it to the dealer, they kept it for two days and were unable to duplicate and therefore diagnose the problem. My car has had every conceivable test and has had parts replaced and nothing has stopped the instrument panel from flashing and the car nearly stalling. I contacted Chrysler corp. Customer service who was not helpful. They simply put on hold for 45 minutes to deal with my complaint. I have looked on-line and this seems to be a problem with Pt Cruisers. Chrsyler is employing risk management for this problem. I hope no one is killed.
Let me start by saying I just bought this 2001 limited edition Pt Cruiser three days ago from a private dealer. I was on the highway, heading home from work in the middle of the night, and wanted to try the cruise control. I turned it on and set it for 67mph to see if it worked first. Then I went to reset it to my actual desired speed by tapping my brakes, then I tried the switch on the arm of my steering wheel but the cruise control wouldn't shut off. I got off at the next exit and was able to slow down to 40mph before my brakes locked up and I was forced to run the stop sign at the end of the off ramp. (thank god it was at 3am and my baby wasn't with me!). I was able to pull over doing 20mph before the brakes locked up again. I quickly shut it off, put it in park, and waited a few minutes to turn it back on. But the engine just kept reving, as if I was holding my foot on the gas because the cruise control was still on! I tried resetting it by turning the key back and forth a few times. I tried to see if it would throw me a code but only "done" appeared on my dash. Every time I started the car, the led for cruise control would come on and then shut off after a few seconds. I was able to coast home doing 40mph with access to my brakes again. Not very well, but enough to make it home, (when I'd let off the brake the car would take off again). I've been doing research since I got back and found a few other reports of this happening, except they were all able to stop. For example by shifting into neutral or shutting the car off. Every time I start the damn thing, the cruise control is still on! how do I shut it off?.
When driving vehicle the steering capability occasionally seizes and vehicle cannot be turned for a few moments. This is very dangerous since it can happen at a turn in the road. Also, at stop lights the car tries to jolt forward. Again this is occurs at inconsistent times. Additionally the car dies in idle when the temperature outside rises above 60 degrees. The check engine light came on and when code was read it stated the cooling system was in need of repair. Upon further investigation into the issue we found the fan worked but was not being switched on. So we replaced the fan switch. Immediately it blew the switch. The mechanics cannot identify the issue. While additional codes just get thrown into the pile. After some research I found that I am not the only one experiencing this issue. I check often to see if something has been recalled or if anyone has found a solution that provides lasting change but I have not found any advice or solution that actually fixes the issue. These issues are reoccurring so I am stating the last occurrence which was just this morning.
Instrument panel is inoperative all fuses and relays are okay.

The contact owns a 2003 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. After the vehicle was started, the check engine and air bag warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and an independent mechanic on multiple occasions where the catalytic converter, cpu, spark plugs, and fuel cap were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 151,000.

All warning lights flash while driving, car dies then restarts, very dangerous in traffic. Chrysler can't find the issue, took it mechanics they can't find the issue. Seems like there are 100's of issues with many different years of the Pt Cruiser however Chrysler is ignoring and there is nothing to fix. Some days this happens a lot then it will go 3 or 4 days without.

My car was idling and than I drove it home on a city street in our neighborhood. About 4 minutes away from my house. Dling in park; seatbelt light kept dinging on; speedometer kept jumping back and forth from 0-100; idling at traffic stop; car shutters like it will cut off; speedometer jumps around while car is not moving. Pcm/tcm replaced multiple time; battery loses charge for no known reason; have had problems w/engine light coming on, pay for sensors and parts needed only for the same issue to happen. These cars are dangerous! something needs to be done to fix this issue. I am a single mom, my son and I were in the car and we were scared. Could of caused an accident.
I've had my Pt Cruiser for atleast 3 years now. Today as I was driving all the lights started going on and off on the dash board and was acting as if it were going to stall out. However , every time I hit the gas the mph gauge would go up. However my gauges on my dash board had stopped working until I'd hit the gas petal again. It did this for at least a few minutes I was on a busy road when it happened and was not able to pull off the road. I've been hearing a lot of rumors going on about Pt Cruisers losing power and locking up on people and bad things happening I think Chrysler needs to get on the ball and fix these issues with their vehicles since we are only the ones that buy them under faith of safety. I had this happen one other time when I first got it but I didn't think nothing of it. The issue seems to be happening more and more often. It's not even at 100,000 miles yet and I am having this many issues. This Pt Cruiser needs to be recalled! me or my children best not get hurt it this thing due to Chrysler's neglect on this issue. I've seen many people complain about this issue and nothing being done. Who has to die before it's resolved?!? I would've had pictures but the lights turned off and it went back to normal before I was able to take a snap shot or video of it. Because if I lose power again and it malfunctions and me or my kids get hurt when Chrysler has been notified and they don't do anything there will be a law suit. If I had known this issue would occur I would have never bought it, infact I'm still paying on it for another 2 yrs.
Driving at low speed, intermittent dash lights flicker, dash warning icons flash on and off, and car 'stumbles' and dies for a few seconds! then restarts ok! very intermittent. . . Has happened on surface streets only so far, but on the freeway, this could be very dangerous! where is the recall on this?????.
When passenger is seated in front passenger seat . Airbag light turns on and chimes until passenger exits vehical.

The engine will not turn over, all other power seems to be on. Taken to mechanic and it will start. Had it for a few days and it did the same thing. I had to pay for two tows so far, and they are saying that it turns on for them. I'm seventy years old and afraid to drive this car, because it might do it again when I'm further away from home. I live alone and drive the car alone. Each time the car was parked.
The contact owns a 2010 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving various speeds, all of the warning indicators illuminated. The acceleration and power steering failed. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The failure recurred two additional times. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated they would respond back to the contact. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

Takata problem car gauges goes up and down while driving then car losses power and shuts never know when it may happen and mechanics can't seems too find the problem scared to drive but all I have.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving various speeds, the gauges on the instrument panel fluctuated and the vehicle stalled. In addition, after waiting a few minutes with the key in the ignition, the vehicle independently restarted. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 159,000.
Upon starting the car, the gauge lights flash and bells ding, and the gas gauge fluctuated wildly. Has done this several times. So far, it has stopped doing that pretty quickly. The last time, I did notice the car seemed to have a slight whishy noise and seemed like the power was weak. In the past there have been a few times that the car would continue running after I turned it off. The button on the gear shift has to be jiggled a little to be able to remove the key.
Idling in park; seatbelt light kept dinging on; speedometer kept jumping back and forth from 0-100; idling at traffic stop; car shutters like it will cut off; speedometer jumps around while car is not moving. Pcm/tcm replaced multiple time; battery loses charge for no known reason; have had problems w/engine light coming on, pay for sensors and parts needed only for the same issue to happen. These cars are dangerous. There need to be a class action lawsuit before someone dies from these cars stalling with no ability to control car. Chrysler knows full well of these garbage cars. That is the real reason they discontinued them! someone needs ti step in. You all have received enough complaints where something should be done immediately.
Car engine shuts off without warning while driving and/or while making turns, or after coming to a stop and steering freezes; engine revs up and down while driving and cannot accelerate; difficulty restarting; interior light blinks and all dashboard gauges suddenly ceased working; replaced rear quarter glass, broken fastener caused car to flood. Part recall no. G01 and I had it replaced. Car has been inspected by mechanics and issues cannot detected nor fixed.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled, a warning light illuminated, and an alarm sounded. The failure recurred ten times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alarm system needed to be reset. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Ignition cut out on freeway at 65 mph several times. Jiggled ignition key to get engine to run again. Should be recalled and corrected.
Electrical dash board, gauges - rpm, gas, temp, go around up and down wildly causes sudden deceleration. All trouble lights come on, battery, seat belt, oil, air bag and go on then off. I had this happened 7 yrs ago and dealer would not repair until dash board was not working. Then dash board completely stopped working and dash board was replaced under warranty. Now it is acting up again. Reading all the complaints. There are over 10 complaints from all over the county about the same issue. Today I was able to finally take video/picture of the trouble lights coming on and off. The dials and lights were going on and off going all the way around and all the way back down again. There are so many complaints about this unsafe issue.
The contact owns a 2006 Chrysler Pt Cruiser. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, all the warning light illuminated and the fuel gage was decreasing independently. In addition, the rpm was decreasing causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle was able to restart minutes later. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000. The VIN was not provided.
When driving on the dash board where it shows your mph below. All the lights will flash on engine, battery, oil, air bag, seatbelt, gas. All will flash on instant deceleration instant slow down. The dials will go up and down wild. Over 5 years ago this happened the dealer would only replace when the dash board stopped working completely. Finally it stopped working I had it replaced under extended warranty. 3 moths ago it started happening again. Flashing lights, all dials going up, down, and around. Yesterday I had severe deceleration on the freeway. Extremely scary and unsafe. I pulled all the way over and drove in the slow lane. Looking/reading on here there are 4 other people from all over the united states with the same complaints. I wrote a complaint on here over 4 years ago. There is something seriously wrong with this vehicle. It needs to be looked into from a outside party. There needs to be a recall before someone is driving on the freeway and the car completely stops. There needs to be a remedy at Chrysler expense.
When randomly driving all the lights on the dashboard go crazy, the fuel gauge goes to empty even when it's a full tank, the car loses power and the engine starts to stall. . . It's very scary because where I drive there are busy highways and I'm scared too death I'm going to get killed or kill someone.
As I was driving my car all the gauges and warning lights came on,gas gauge needle went to e(tank was full), lost power as I was driving. Took the car to my mechanic they tried to duplicate the problem, of course they couldn't. Then the engine light came on. Put the car in the garage. . . Again! a week later the problem returned. My job requires me to work across all 3 shifts, I am frighten to drive my car, I often have my grandchildren in the car with. They were in the car March 25,2016 when the car began bucking and jerking while we were driving home. I was on a street doing 45 mph, when the cars speed dropped to 5 mph. I was impeding traffic, and cars were passing me on curves! I was on another site and see 93 other complaints, for the same issue. I am thinking there will need to be a loss of life before Chrysler corp. Does something to correct this serious problem.
When driving all lights on dash will come on, gauges will go off and on, and the engine has died in the road several times. The time it dies while driving is scariest part it has so far restarted after getting off road. Afraid when someone is following too close they will hit us or I hit them as I travel on the frwy 120 miles a day. Many people seem to have this go on. Chrysler fix this or I will have a class action lawsuit. Should fix before customers are killed! this has been ongoing problem since about 90,000 miles it has 132,000 now I have taken car to multiple mechanics and no one can find out was wrong. Engine died and restarted today on the freeway 3/2/16.
My Pt Cruiser by chrylr 2004 got on fire in the control areas for the gear control areas, I was driving home on the 29th of February 2016, and I was about a mile from my home when my grand daughter said she smell smoke and seen it as well, but we didn't know where it was coming from. I got home from driving a regular city street, which was about 5 minutes from my home. I park the car and raise the hood to see if the fire was under my hood, no not there. So I park my car at my home and said I would investigate it in the morning since it was night time. I went to my car the next morning on the 1st of March 2016 and try to change gears, my gear wouldn't move. I had my car tow to my mechanic to fix the problem. He told me I had a fire in the gear areas, he was dumbfounded on how the fire started, but said the only thing he could come up with was the cigarette lighter could had started the fire.
While driving the vehicle at any time, on a city street or highway, all of the lights on the cluster would light up, all gauges would fluncuatate and the car would stall and shut off. I have taken vehicle to independent mechanics and a certified Chrysler service center and the problem is not able to be resolved. This issue causes concern and is effecting my transportation for employment and creating fear of driving the vehicle on highways.
When driving all lights on dash will come on, gauges will go off and on, and the engine has died in the road. Some times air conditioner will fail to work for days at a time then suddenly work again. Key switch seems to be loose inside and will not stay in position. The time it dies while driving is scariest part it has so far restarted after getting off road. Afraid when someone is following too close they will hit us. Many people seem to have this go on. Chrysler should fix before customers are killed! this has been ongoing problem since about 90,000 miles it has 105,000 now.
2006 Chrysler p. T. Time after time engine indicator lights come one, sometimes engine dies. Have been able to re-start in motion, but when will this become disasterous? per internet, hundreds of folks have the same problem, yet Chrysler nor nhstb does zilch. Dealer has no clue after doing diagnostic. Will never buy another Chrysler product. So much for government giving a s---! this week it has happened everytime the car has been driven.
Windows on car will not work after having it repaired 8 months ago 2nd. Time it has happened since we had it.
Fuel gauge suddenly drops to empty. Even after a complete tank refill. It would seem to be an electrical malfunction in either the sensor or dash gauge itself. It can be "cleared" from being stuck on empty by shutting off the engine and then restarting it. Also, speedometer suddenly drops to zero for several seconds and then jumps back to the present speed.
