8 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

My 2007 Chrysler Sebring "stuck" in park. I have 48847 miles on my Sebring and have not had a problem with it. On Aug. 13 I pulled into my garage and parked. The next day I got into my car and it would not shift out of park. I checked the manual and it gave an "over-ride" procedure. This procedure does not work. I called Chrysler on the 15th and asked how to engage the over-ride. They gave me the same procedure. On the 16th I had a tow truck come to my house to tow my car to the dealership. He showed me an entirely different over-ride that was shown to him, by Chrysler. But Chrysler does not pass on to the consumer. It worked and I was able to drive my car to the dealership. Before I took my car to the dealership I contacted Chrysler and got a case manager assigned to me. The case manager worked with the dealership and got my car repaired for a $50. 00 CO-payment. Chrysler knows there is a problem with 2007 & 2008 Sebrings I would like to see Chrysler send a new over-ride procedure to all owners of vehicles that could have this problem and issue a recall. I was lucky it happened in my garage, but several others might not be as lucky where this failure happens, without the correct knowledge on how to over-ride the system.

9 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/13/2010

I left work and my 2007 Chrysler Sebring would not shift out of park (it's an automatic). I eventually had to have my car towed for a total of 280. 11 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

Started the car pushed in on the brake as usual to release the safety on the gear shifter so it'd go in reverse and it wouldn't go in gear. I mashed the brake harder & still nothing. I tried turning the steering wheel thinking maybe it was the safety thing locking up in that but it was real loose! by now my kids were late for there apptments so I gave up and went inside and started calling around. The nearest dealership said it was a line running from my shifter to my brake up to the steering I needed to tow it in cost my $50-300. My husband took my console apart that evening and found that the shifter is locked in place by a small pink plastic device with a wire running through it which is attached to your braking system somehow on one end yet on the other end its attached to some kind of spring which is attached to yet get this, another piece of plastic! well my spring broke and the pink plastic thing cracked!!! I find this to be a safety hazard. I strongly feel that Chrysler should be having to deal with and fix these issues.

12 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/06/2010

2008 Chrysler Sebring. On August 6th, the car gear shifter knob was seized in the park position. Upon reading the internet, it became very apparent that this is an obvious defect on Chrysler's part. The shift knob is attached to a small plastic pink "flipper" type part, that easily becomes detached from the spring. The only fix by professionals is a $400. 00 repair. The sad reality is that the actual fix is a $5. 00 part. . .

We have a 2004 Chrysler Sebring convertible which has a problem with lurching forward and unable to stop (no brakes). This has happened 3 times and we feel it is a very dangerous situation. It has now been diagnosed as a transmission problem. We feel we should not be responsible for this defect but Chrysler has refused to fix the problem. When we contacted Chrysler, we were told we had an extended warranty but now are told we do not. We are afraid to drive the car and feel strongly that Chrysler should be willing to repair or take it off the road.

21 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1998 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 06/11/2008

Upon attempting to start the car, I had to put the car in neutral or jiggle the gear in park in order to start the car. I replaced the starter thinking that was why the car would not start. I was informed by several auto part stores that I would have to replace the neutral safety switch, had that replaced and the car still would not start. I had my car towed to ganley Dodge to have them put the transmission back into my car, which cost me $70 plus $180 diagnostic. The ganley Dodge gave me a quote of $3500 for a new transmission. That was not in my budget, I then had my car towed by transmission world to their shop, I explained to them the problems I was having with my car, prior to this I didn't have any problems with the transmission. It took transmission world a week before they could get the transmission out of the car, to have the transmission taken out and taken apart to find out what was wrong it cost me $2,037. 00 for a 3 year warranty on a new transmission.

There were no actual events leading up to the problem. The car is a 2007 model Chrysler Sebring sedan with a 2. 4l, 4 cylinder engine. The car has 36,505 miles on it. The car was acting perfectly normal up until I went to start it. Once I started it, I could not get it out of park. 27 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 11/08/2006

Transmission went out with out warning.

28 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 03/24/2006

While shifting from reverse to drive, car feels like it is in neutral. I must shift back and forth to get vehicle moving again. This usually is not a problem because it usually happens in a parking stall, where not a lot of moving cars are around to hit me. Almost always after the neutral/drive problem, the transmission will shift down hard when going from second down to first gear, causing a jerking motion. This has caused me to take it into the shop twice now, and it was different problems each time. The first was a sensor, the second, a "TSB" needed updating. Each time I take it in, I am guaranteed about a $200 charge.

30 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 12/02/2005

Recently while driving my 2002 Chrysler Sebring lx I was slowing down off an exit ramp and the car suddenly grabbed at around 32 mph. I found out by monitoring my speeds that you have to go over 36 mph and slow down to 32 mph for it to grab and it does it every time. The check engine light has never came on and has been checked for working operation. I recently had the car taken to a dealer to be put on a diagnostics machine where there they said they can't even say what is wrong, they said something is wrong but for the machine to not even pick it up something isn't right. All fluids have been checked by myself and the mechanic and they have maintained proper level. We have reason to believe maybe a sensor or just to reset the whole car all I know is this is costing me lot of money. I wanted to report this case. This may be a start to a recall on the car. If the dealer and the computer can't find it maybe you can help?.

31 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 10/15/2005

I bought the car used at in 2005 with 23k miles. After about a month we noticed a hard shift problem between 1st and 2nd mainly. We took the car in for repairs several time but the dealer claimed they couldn't find a problem. Finally they acknowledged the problem and did a partial rebuild on the transmission. After about two weeks the problem resurfaced and the dealers still could not find the problem. I tried a different dealer just after the car hit 36k and they also claimed no problem and charged me for the service since it was just out of warranty. The driving lights also quit just after the warranty ran out. At this point I'm just living with the problem because the dealers can't seem to find the problem.

32 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

33 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1996 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 04/27/2005

Purchased vehicle in Apr 05 from friends. Without the key in the ignition, the button can be pressed and the shift lever moved. While running, the button can be pressed and the shift lever moved without having to put foot on the brake pedal. Vehicle brought in to dealer and recall c45 alleged to be completed 10-25-05. Due to my children now use the car, a return was made to a dealer 12-01-09 for recall. Invoice states "reinspect recall #c45. " while waiting, service advisor appeared to discuss recall and state that I needed to replace the interlock cable. Invoice stated "did recall c45 replace shifter rod," "need to replace interlock cable, $227. 00. " so it appears after doing another shifter rod, maybe the recall should be for the interlock cable as in another complaint # 10126915. Though I said this was a recall and a safety issue, he repeated I'd have to pay for the interlock cable. About to leave, a long spring was found on drivers floor area. Service advisor was shown same and said a new one was put in, hopefully with a new shifter rod, though maybe that's the wrong fix for this safety defect.

34 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 04/14/2005

2004 Sebring 4 door sedan has occasionally lunged or surged forward when stopped at a light or in traffic. This occurs while my foot has been on the brake and I hate to think of what could happen if I did not have my foot on the brake when it lunges forward. I could hit someone or something. Have had it to the dealer 3 times for this. The 2nd time I had found a service bulletin on this website describing what should be done to correct the problem. (the first time they just said they couldn't do anything because they couldn't make the problem happen)when I brought the service bulletin to them last Dec 2005, they said they fixed it. It has now happened again, and is back into the dealership where I was at first told that if they couldn't make it happen, they couldn't fix it. I told them this was the 3rd time in the shop for the same issue and it is a safety issue. They are going to try replacing a throttle positioning sensor. I was reading other complaints on this website and decided it was time to write one because this is definitely happening to other people and is a safety issue. Is Chrysler waiting for someone to get hurt before they find out what the problem is? someone needs to hold them accountable. It only happens occasionally so it is hard to recreate it when you bring it to the dealer, but there are many people with the same types of problems on this site.
