When I am driving and it is raining or has rained or if the car is wet there is an issue with the car skipping/ stalling out when you accelerate. This only occurs when the car is wet. It has cut completely off at an intersections before. This usually happens with speeds less than 40 mph or you can hear and feel it pulling/ when driving at higher speeds. I thought it was the spark plugs going bad and had them replaced that they did not fix the problem. This is dangerous because you are not able to determine when it will stall out/skip. I have taken it to the dealership on numerous occasions and they could not determine what the problem could be. Or state no problem found. This has gone one for two years.

Without warning at time my car will stall at a stop ie sign or traffic signal other time it will be stopped at a light & without warning the rpm will spike to over 2k rpm & neary caused an accident several time. There is no know reason for this in relation to temp, humidity etc or how long its been driven. Can it be that the flex fuel system is getting confused by the alcohol in the fuel?? also experience at time when filling gas tank it spits back & causes an overflow of fuel on side of car & ground??no matter how slow or fast its put in. All this has started in the last 5k miles please find a fix before it becomes a accident. Thanks.

I purchased my car used 3 yrs ago. I paid if off this year. The ongoing troublesome issue is that the car stalls out unexpectedly- usually during wet weather. It has happened about 5 times or so. But, it has almost happened many more times. . . The car sputters and just about stalls out. Again, all during wet weather. I contacted the dealership where I purchased car after the 1st incident. They took the car and said I needed a new battery ; that it was being drained when I had wipers, heat, radio etc all on at once and that was why it stalled. I went with it. Well, it has stalled several times since. All while driving and very scary. The power steering goes out. Another thing that may or may not be related. . . Is that the dash lights flicker on and off; also a safety issue. I will be driving and all of a sudden can't see my speedometer or anything. I think there is definitely an electrical issue. I see that there have been recalls related to the electrical system. I just don't know what to do. I think they should look into this.

*what happened? use as much space as you need. We own this 2004 Chrysler Sebring as we purchased it new in the fall of 2004 from westborn Chrysler in dearborn. In the spring of 2005 we took a trip to florida, and as we were getting off the freeway, at the first stop light, the car was jerking to the point that if we did not put it in park it would hit the gar in front, then it stopped. It stopped several times in that trip. We took it to the dealer; they could not diagnose anything wrong with it. We drove the car short distances since, but recently started to drive about 20 miles one way, when it started to have the same symptoms. We experience several cases of sudden stalling, jerking and sudden stops when turning. It happens when have to stop after a highway drive. In one instance it almost hit our house. We took the car to the dealer again and were told that the right downstream O2 sensor, and the harness connector have to be replaced and the fuel injector needs to be serviced. Also the power steering pump is noisy. Chrysler would pay for the parts, but we would have to pick up the labor cost of $1,103, because the car has 47,000 miles, it is so far since the warranty expired. They claim this is not covered by the 70,000 miles or 7 years warranty. It is the engine and/or transmission that are malfunctioning, but they try to find different things to give me the run around and not to cover the expenses. After all, t really thing that this will not fix the problem, this is only the effect of a different cause, that is not even found. 2. Another issue is that once it rains, the carpet on the driver side is always wet. 3. A third issue, we had to replace the blower motor resistor. All common problems with these cars, as I read complaints. Why isn't Chrysler stepping up and fixing these problems?.

Car stalls while driving.
2007 Chrysler Sebring electronic throttle control light comes on and car cannot accelerate stalls almost to almost to a complete stop. . . Only turning off the car resets this light for who knows how long it just happens and is very dangerous. . . This problem needs to be addressed before somebody gets seriously hurt. . .
This is my second complaint filed on this website. My car has been placed in the repair shop at least 3 time for the same problem with no resolution. Car stalled again on 2/22/09 and 2/24/09.
The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Sebring. While driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact coasted to the side of the road, turned off the engine and restarted it; the problem seemed to correct itself. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The dealer called the manufacturer was instructed to reset the computer; the dealer did reset it. Four months later, the problem occurred again. The contact planned to take the vehicle back to the dealership at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 36,594. Updated 11/03/10. Updated 12/09/jb.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Sebring. For more than three weeks, the contact has been waiting on a part to repair her vehicle. The dealer has over five hundred orders waiting for the mapping sensor, which is the mass air flow pressure sensor, that allows the engine to start. Without this part, the contact's vehicle stalls constantly. She was involved in three crashes due to the failure. There were no injuries. After it stalls, the vehicle restarts within a minute. The dealer cannot provide a specific time of when the part will be available. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 53,000.
Chrysler Sebring (2007) stalls or lurches forwards, generally while the car is stopped. Occurs a few times per month (~3) for several months. The car was taken to dealership, where problem was observed; however no fix was available from dealer. Safety concern is that when the car lurches forwards it will hit a pedestrian crossing an intersection or hit the car ahead of it.
Anytime is rains car seems to not be able to accelerate and wants to stall from a stop or low rpm's, especially at turns and stop signals and stop lights, had car looked at and was unable to fix problem.
Ticking of the engine, no sludge found as of today. Stalling at lights or sitting in traffic.

The contact owns a 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Beginning in August of 2007, the vehicle began stalling intermittently. On December 11, 2007, while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. On December 12, 2007, while driving 40 mph, the failure recurred. The vehicle also stalled while idling at a traffic light. On each occasion, the vehicle would restart after 2-12 minutes. A mechanic and the dealer could not duplicate the failure. On twelve different occasions, the vehicle would not start; however, the battery would turn over. The current mileage is 69,760 and failure mileage was 69,600. The consumer stated he replaced the fuel pump relay and a automatic shut down relay. He also had additional diagnostic testing which indicated it may be the cam sensor. The consumer did have it replaced, however he didn't know if the problem was solved, since the stalling happened intermittently. Updated.

2001 Sebring convertible - oil lamp appears on dashboard, car stalls, towed by aaa, informed I need new engine. Online history of problems with oil sludge/new engines needed, NHTSA recall I was never notified about, I purchased additional warranty in may 2001 (6 years total) which ran out 2 weeks ago
have nowhere to turn for help. I'm currently collecting service records (my oil changes are up to date) - how can I have a voice with Chrysler in this matter?.

I bought the car in August of 06'. It's an 04' Chrysler Sebring. The damn car started stalling and stopping when I came to a stop. I dies on me at least once a day now. It finally stopped while driving today in the middle of traffic on a highway. It scares me. I read on auto beef (which is where I found you) of other complaints from many other people with the exact same problem. The dealerships and other mechanics cannot seem to find out what it is. I took my car to the dealership today and they ran a test and found nothing wrong with it. The same problem everyone else is having. I don't get it. I don't know what else to do. . . . Please help!!!.
While driving, car stalled in the middle of the boulevard; restart and drove to nearest parking lot. Had vehicle towed to automotive shop. Upon investigation found water in oil, 544 other cases filed 2001 Chrysler Sebring weak engine block failure after 34k miles, we lucked out after 66k miles.
Driving on I-295 in the evening when engine suddenly, dramatically and without warning lost power and started stalling. My wife was very nearly struck by traffic from behind due to the sudden loss of power while on a major highway. We were informed by a local mechanic that the engine is blown and needs to be replaced.
: the contact stated while driving 65 mph a noise was heard and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was maneuvered off the road and towed to the dealer who determined the cam shaft needed to be replaced.

Since purchasing our 2004 Chrysler Sebring (touring) new off the dealer's lot in the summer of 2004, we have experienced several cases of sudden and unexplained stalling. The problem seems to happen most often when we come to a stop during highway driving. The car usually sputters a few seconds before stalling. I then have to put the car in park, turn off the ignition and then turn the keys back. This has resulted in several near-misses because cars approaching from behind do not realize my vehicle is dead. Over the past two years, we have experienced about 15 to 20 stalling incidents. After the first few cases, we took the car to the Chrysler dealership and they could not replicate the stalling and could not find any fault codes or obvious defects. We have contacted the dealership several times since our visit to see if Chrysler has issued any updates on the apparent manufacturing issue. So far, we have not received any advice on what to do about the problem.
: the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. It was maneuvered off the road and towed to the dealer, who replaced the engine due to engine sludge.
I purchased my car in Nov 2005 and on several occasions the car has stalled on me I started the car back up immediately. On other occasions the engine would rev up while sitting at a red light or either in a drive thru lane at a restaurant. The car was not in park it scared me to death. I don't know the reason for this. The car isn't under warranty any longer and I know the wont fix it problem.
The contact stated approximately two seconds after the oil light came on the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a garage; they found sludge build up in the engine. There have been no repairs done to the vehicle. Updated 12/27/05.
