I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring coupe. I bought the vehicle on 11/15/2008. The "check engine soon" light came on 3 months later, on 2/15/09 and I got the vehicle serviced at the sheridan Ford dealership. They claimed there was an oil leak that was leaking into my engine, and were going to fix that. Then, 4 days later (I drove the vehicle twice), the car broke down in the middle of a highway and had to be towed. I was told the transmission died due to a ring that broke and clogged a pipe which caused the transmission to fail. Also, when my car was being fixed, another oil leak was found and an antifreeze leak had also ocurred. I have only had the vehicle for 3 months and for 1,455 miles. I have had to but over $3100 worth of work into it already, getting a new transmission and fixing the oil and antifreeze leaks.
2. 7 liter engine in my Chrysler Sebring seized - no warning of low oil or an oil leak.
I regularly maintain the oil in my car, yet the oil seems to disappear. I add oil in between changes and the technicians at the oil change have never seen any leaks. I continued to drive and noticed a knock in the engine. I checked the oil, and it was low. I was not due for a change, so I put oil in the engine. The knock continued until one day it became an awful sound, and shut off. I had the car towed back to my house where it has sat for a month. I had a mechanic diagnose ,y car and he said it was a rod, and that I needed a new engine. I have noticed where several people have had problems with the Chrysler 2. 7 valve engine. I do not feel that this is my problem, especially if Chrysler has a faulty product.

Driving on the morning of August 6, 2007 and my car's oil came on, which it has in the past and nothing could be found wrong. A few miles down the road my car's engine began to knock and smoke. When I opened the engine the car was completely out of oil. And there was no leak. When I got the car to a local dealership I was told that my engine was gone.
The contact owns a 2002 Chrysler Sebring convertible. While driving 50 mph the vehicle suddenly decelerated and shut off. The contact waited five minutes, and was able to restart the vehicle. Approximately ten minutes later the vehicle shut off again without warning. The contact opened the hood, and noticed oil and antifreeze leaking throughout the engine. The mechanic stated that fluids backed up into the engine. The roads were wet due to rain, however there was no water found in the engine. The mechanic stated that the engine needed to be replaced. No additional failures have occurred. The current and failure mileages were 95,000.
Consumer had a leak in engine, due to sludge in Chrysler Sebring. The consumer read an article which mentioned that there are at least 797,000 questionable Chrysler engine that could experience sludge problems. The consumer contacted the manufacturer but they refused to provide the consumer with any financial assistance. The dealer claimed that the sludge was the result of oil maintenance neglect.
On or about March 30, 2004 my car developed a ticking noise. I discovered the noise when ordering food at a drive through window. The noise was only evident when I had my window down. My car also had no heat by this time. Over the last two winters I would not have heat when the car was idle, but this year it had gradually deteriorated to no heat when idle or upon accelaration. According to the ower's manual no antifreeze would cause this problem. The car was low on oil and had no antifreeze. I took the car to an independent mechanic for an oil change and to check the antifreeze. The owner's manual stated you needed to do something special to add antifreeze, but the manual fail to tell you what that something special was. The oil was changed and the antifreeze was filled. The ticking noise persisted and then the red oil lamp came on one week after having this service performed. I made another appointment with the independent mechanic to see what was causing the ticking noise. After checking my car over I received a call saying that it appeared I needed a new engine, the anitfreeze that had been put in two weeks prior was completely gone. My car had no visible signs of leakage. Where did the antifreeze go? why is my low oil light coming on as well? it appears that the 2. 7l engine fails regardless of maintenance due to design of the engine (limiting passage of oil) and this failure is also linked to the antifreeze leakage over time, causing the engine to over heat and build up sludge. The dealer then tells you that engine problem is due to sludge build-up or rather poor maintenance on your part and voids the warranty or refuses any assistance in the repair expense. My engine failed at approximately 52,000 miles. This problem is costing consumers thousands of dollars.
Problems with my 1996 Chrysler Sebring. It goes thro tons of oil, I keep having to add oil to the car, everything has been breaking on it. Now it periodically stalls out non stop. There is only 85k miles on the car and it should not be having these problems. I have put in thousands of dollars into this car for repairs. It was under warranty by Chrysler and I took it in for the oil issue and they said they saw no problem, that warranty ran out and my extended one kicked in and they said it had oil leaks and kept 'fixing' them. Once that warranty ran out they changed their story to 'the engine is consuming the oil, that's not under warranty'. Meanwhile I am left with a horrid car that wont run.

Leased new car for 6 months, had oil ahcnge at 3,000 miles, have 5,000 miles now. Entire oil leaked out of the engine and engine stopped. Chrysler's waranty will not cover the damage since the plastic guard under the car was litttle broken maybe by hitting a pothall and therefore is my negligence. Cost $2,500 to fix engine.
Have a brand new car and engine oil now leaking. Dealer said it is oil galley plug and cylinder head must be removed to fix.

Ongoing oil leakage; vehicle taken to an independent repair shop. Mechanic informed consumer of a blown head gasket. Manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was out of warranty, and nothing could be done. Feel free to provide further details.
Head gasket between head & engine block leaking oil excessively. Mechanic says is a common problem for Chryslers due to aluminum head, bad design & cast iron engine, (these 2 metals are not compatible). Feels Chrysler should recall this because dealerships know of this problem because service managers know this is a growing problem and our having noted several complaints throughout this website.
Engine leaking oil due to faulty cylinder head, one year later the leak redeveloped. Nlm.
Carried my car in for an oil leak--was told by two different mechanic s@two different shops-- oil was leaking through head gasket--both told me they had seen a lot of the same designed cars with this same problem--the car has never ran hot--one guy had the same model as mine come into his shop on the same day as mine with the same problem.
