The passenger seat belt on my 96 Sebring has locked up and can no longer be pulled out of the seat at all. I took it to the dealer and asked about a recall, but was told it would be "at least two hours labor, not counting parts and would be over $200 to fix). To me, this is clearly a defective product and a safety issue. I normally drive alone, so the belt got minimal use before becoming defective. I sent a detailed letter to daimler Chrysler from their web site and got a very brief reply of "I'm sorry. " there was no offer of help or suggestions to speak of. At any rate, it looks like it's going to cost me a few hundred dollars to get this fixed so that passengers in my car can ride in safety once again.

I drive a 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible. Early summer 2004, the driver seat belt failed to work regularly. Chrysler paid to replace the seat belt assembly in Aug 2004. Early this year, both front seat belts became unreliable, failing to "pull out" about 75% of the time. In late March 2005, it was diagnosed by norman chrsyler Jeep Dodge and a seat belt module was ordered on March 30, 2005. Chrysler offered to pay all but $50 for the repair. The problem is that 6 weeks later, the part is still on national backorder with no estimated delivery date. As of week ending may 6, 2005, neither the dealership nor Chrysler corp can offer any assistance in obtaining the part. Meanwhile, I live way out in the country where I drive on 65 mph country roads everywhere I go with no front seat belts about 75% of the time. In the last year, my husband and in-laws have hit deers, and my daughter was in a major accident on these roads. I am at a loss as to where to go for help. Please help!!!.
