Seat Belt Problems of Chrysler Sebring - part 1

This is part of complaint 11630942. The incident on Nov 25, 2024. These are two separate complaints which occurred in the same crash that resulted in serious injuries. In the event of the crash the seatbelt failed to restrain me. Allowing my head to collide into the windshield and my chest to forcefully hit the steering wheel. I have serious injuries to many body parts as result of this incident. The vehicle is available for inspection and I have photos and medical reports available upon request.

Air bag light stays on at all times and it put fear of safety issue is a wreck is to happen. Driver seatbelt light doesn’t go off, it’s as though when putting the belt on even though it’s latched it isn’t and causes the warning light to stay on.

The steering wheel got stiff and hard to turn making turning a struggle. The shifting gears slipped and locked in place. The electronic throttle is is indicating a problem. These are just a problem over some time.

Drivers side seat belt does not retract. Engine piston rod bearings are defective heat up melt and may cause an engine fire like in Hyundai rod bearing recall. Common on Chrysler v6 engine. May cause blown engine, snapped piston rods, heat and engine fire.

Driver side seat belt mechanism has a sensor inside that is loose and my concern is will this have an impact on the airbags, it also beeps the entire time it is hooked. The beeping or sensor remains to beep while stationary, in motion, on a city street and highway, turning, braking etc.

Seatbelt drivers side doesn't retract. Like 2007 the car randomly stalls while driving. In motion. Both are huge safety issues.

Seatbelt light on dash keeps chiming as if I don't have my seat belt on. This chimes and light comes on randomly while in motion. Or parked.

When I turn the steering wheel the steering wheel shakes really bad until I bring the steering back into regular position. The seat belt sign goes off continually after I'm buckled up, car engine shuts off while car is idling at a red light, car jumps while sitting at a red light.

Front driver seat belt does not retract. Very dangerous.

The front passenger seatbelts releases when any pressure, even very little at all, is put on it and happens continuously. It won't stay latched even with minor movements of passenger. Happens whether car is running and driving or sitting stationary at home.

Seatbelt locks up to where u can't put it on before driving or when driving and seatbelt is on it sometimes locks up and you can't move your locked in place while driving. While driving if it locks up it can happen anywhere on any road or freeway it's malfunctioning and it's annoying especially when u have to be somewhere and you can't get your seatbelt to work making me drive without it on. . Since I bought the car 4 years ago it's been doing this.

Contacted by"fca us llc concerning recall in December of 2016 . Told parts was told by recall agent replaceement parts would be available in January 2017. Contacted Dodge dealership concerning replacement parts . Told not in and would be notified when parts come in . Haven't been contacted yet. Dodge dealership stated the vehicle is safe to operate. Untrue. . . .

Chrysler Sebring recall it's been 6 months since I got this recall notice. Thank fully I have a spare car to use as I have a 5 year old daughter and I refuse to drive her in this car. I refuse to because if something did happen, Chrysler would blame me for riding in a recalled car that's been in a recall for six months now! this is ridiculous! if the car wasn't paid for,I'd sell it to get rid of it. I'd never sell a car in a recall so I am stuck with it until the year 2020 when they finally decide to make the part to fix it. I know I will never never buy another Chrysler. Should have just went with a Nissan or Toyota and I wouldn't have this problem!.

I was notified of a recall back in September 2016. It is now August 2017 and there is still not a remedy. It's entirely too long of a time for me and my daughter to ride in that dangerous car! too long and they don't seem to care at all.

Possible takata recall!!! while coming down and around a corner on a highway there was a car turning and I did not have enough times to stop. Which caused me to rearend the other vehicle. It was a beautiful day so we had my 2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible top down. I was driving while my 15 year old daughter was in the front passenger seat. My12 year old daughter directly behind her and my 7 year old niece behind me. The front air bags deployed. My 15 year old whom was wearing her seatbelt was thrown forward due to her seatbelt locking mechanism not locking. Thankfully the seatbelt eventually caught her by the right thigh saving her from being ejected from the vehicle. She substained what could have easily been a life threatening laceration to left side (but more towards the middle) of her foreheard directly above her left eyebrow. The laceration was 8cm, the shape of a cross, and it was 3 layers deep. My younger daughter whom was directly behind her had a patch of skin on top of her left foot that was cut off. We are in the process of getting someone to come and take a look at the vehicle before the insurance company gets rid of it in the next week. We are not sure if my 15 year old daughter's head was cut from airbag shrapnel flying out since the size, shape, and location of the laseration is the same size, shape and location on one of the bigger trakata air bag injuries that is out there publicly. Or if her injury was due to her hitting her head on something due to the fact that her seatbelt locking mechanism was not working. Either way this needs to be looked into before someone else is injured or worse yet killed. . . Please look into this. . . * the passenger airbag light would go on every once and awhile but would then go off when you moved the passenger chair back or forth. The same problem the 2010 Chrysler Sebring convertibles are just now recalling.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible. When the seat belt was buckled, the warning light remained illuminated and the engine failed while driving 10 mph. The vehicle was taken in for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the vehicle could not be diagnosed because the battery continued to drain. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

Drivers inboard seat belt broke off when my son tried to buckle up in the driveway. Potentially a fatal situation in an accident. The connecting cable frayed. It would not have held in any type of forward accident.

Letter from congressman visclosky on behalf of constituent re 2010 Chrysler Sebring safety recall notice- loss of airbag and seat belt pretensioner deployment capability during a crash may increase the risk of injury in a crash. When you push the horn it will not turn off. I pulled the fuse out so that I would not have to deal with the horn having a mind of its own. My fix was to purchase a switch about $4-5 at the auto store and rewire the horn in on my own. It looks a little tacky, I put the switch under the turn signal, but it is far better than being in traffic or at a light and having the horn go off for 5 minutes. Straight. I never took it in but I am guessing it is an issue with the horn switch which is under the airbag. Expensive fix which is why Chrysler will never pay to fix the issue.

Tl-the contact owns a 1997 Chrysler seebring. The contact stated that while attempting to put on the seat belt, the seat belt did not release and fractured. Seat belt on drivers side signals malfunction when fastened and no amount of tightening stops the beeping and flashing signal. The car is in motion and this occurence is not observed when automobile is standing still.

I've had major problems with this vehicle . Since I purchased it has been in the auto shop to be repaired on 3 separate occasionshower. I would like to return the car my loan to be paid off . And purchase anot her vehicle.
