The original equipment automatic dimming rear view mirror became foggy and leaked a solvent that dissolved the plastic on the console mounted shift cover, the mirror was replaced and now after 2 years in service the replacement mirror is fogging. Chrysler corporation customerservice responds that it is out of warranty and that they have no obligation to replace it. I view this item as a safety concern. He only item available for this vehicle costs $300. 00 for the part and installation. S a safety item the rear view mirror should be functional throughout the lifetime of the vehicle.

issue: interior rear view mirror
on stated date a type of unknown liquid was dripping from the base or seam of the mirror and dripped onto my consul. (no apparent cause for this) causing the mirrors interior to haze making it difficult to see into. Some bubbling was seen behind the glass, but has stopped and only haze remains. I contacted daimlerchrysler, dealer in torrance,CA and daimlerchrysler via internet site/email and informed them both of this problem. A senior staff rep at daimlerchrysler, could not provide a msds info to me. This haziness on my mirror is a hazard for driving, and the liquid that dripped could be a potential environmental hazard as well. My children are in my car daily. The senior staff rep stated
"your concerns are understandable. Unfortunately there is nothing further that can be done to more fully address these issues. ". . I did ask the senior staff rep to replace the mirror assembly. I feel this is a manufacturer flaw and I should not pay for it.

The inside rearview mirror dripped oil down to the console. Dealer notified. Please provide further information. The black liquid melted the plastic gear housing. The consumer had to replace the mirror.
Rear view mirror has a flowing liquid inside of the mirror impairing view. This does not seem to affect the auto dimming abilities. One night it was fine, the next morning it was there; no damage to mirror at all; no bumps; no cold temps; no hot temps to cause this problem. There is no leaking. The liquid flows uphill leading to believe it is possibly Mercury and if so poses an environmental hazard as well as potential harm to humans if the mirror is to start leaking. Chrysler 5 star dealer in ruston, la has never seen a problem like this. They also are charging almost $400 plus labor to fix. This is unacceptable as this seems like a clear defect case.
Failure of rearview mirror. Mirror has developed a shadow in the middle of the mirror. Mirror no longer changes from day light to night driving.

Vehicle was purchased with an interior rearview mirror with electronic shading for night driving. The shading function has decreased and the shading area of the mirror has decreased in area. In other words, the shaded area of the mirror only covers part of the mirror surface.
