36 Power Train problem of the 1999 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 04/27/2014

This car is a death trap and needs to be investigated. Car will lose all power, steering, and brakes while traveling at speeds up to 55mph. This is very dangerous and I almost killed myself because of this issue. I have taken the car to 3 mechanics and they cannot diagnose the problem. Chrysler won't even return my calls regarding the issue, which I've researched and found hundreds of others with this same problem. This is a huge safety hazard and Chrysler should take responsibility for whatever it is that is causing this to happen. I'm wondering if I can take legal action against them. This is absolutely unacceptable.

37 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 03/11/2014

This has happened on several different occasions--becoming more frequent and lasting longer duration each time. While traveling various speeds (can and has happened anywhere from 5mph-60mph) if any pressure is applied to accelerator after breaking no matter the speed all power is lost to the car a red lighting bolt light appears on the dash and the rpm's will stay between 4,000-5,000. Each time having to pull off to the side of the road and attempt for it to restart (depends on if it will or not--usually takes it a while). Will get up to speed again and if I have to break for any reason or even slow down just a little without apply the breaks it can completely loose power. Also do not have any dash lights when the head lights are turned on. They appear in the center console but went out in 2009 just after I bought the car, and after several estimates in the thousands of dollars it remains with no lights (so in no way can you see the speed or anything else on the dash after dark. ).

39 Power Train problem of the 2009 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 11/14/2013

My wife was driving her 2009 Chrysler Sebring at approximately 55 miles per hour when all the indicator lights in the instrument cluster all began to flash erratically. The car began to loose power and then stalled while she was trying to remain in control. She was eventually able to get the car to the side of the road in a area that has barely any shoulder to stop on with much effort since no power makes a car with power steering very difficult to drive. It took another 15 minutes to get it restarted all while many cars whizzed by at high speed, with greatly diminished power as the power train did not know if it was coming or going. It limped back to our house stalling again in our driveway. We called Chrysler and made appointment to have it taken to neuwirth Chrysler in wilmington nc for diagnosis and repair. Tom chappell, called us and relayed the following, the power train module was faulty and needed to be replaced. He also told us that this part was on Chrysler's national back order and we could not expect delivery until may 5, 2014. If you notice today's date is 21 November 2013. That is almost 6 months from now. This car is not safe to drive and should not be driven. I have since spoken to the general manager at neuwirth Chrysler and he agrees that the car should not be driven and that the dealership is trying to intercede with Chrysler corporation on our behalf to get a rental car and something in order to alleviate this situation. The general manager cautioned that all he our anyone at neuwirth could do was "yell and jump up and down" on our behalf, but the final authority would the Chrysler corporation in michigan. Chrysler corporation maintains it is safe to drive for the next 6 months. Please help this car should be recalled.

40 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

The car will not shift out of park. The first occurrence was sept. 2013, took it to the dealership and the repair/replacement was $400. Called the same dealership today ( December 23, 2014) and they would like me to bring it in, but I don't want to pay another $400 to have it replaced again because the one-yr warranty is up by 3 months. So disappointed. . . What a way to spend the christmas holiday.

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

24 hours of purchasing from original- sole owner of whom kept it very well, low mileage 28,000m & garaged. I drove it for the first gas fill-up and proceeded to restart, shift from p to drive. Locked up. Referred to manuel in which I followed instructions for hidden reset button. To no avail, called local Chrysler dealership. Their response "you get it here & we'll fix it!" totally frustrated~I did. Broken shifter has 2 little pink plastic guards holding it all together- really? one has broken but the whole shifter has to be replaced!! 3 1/2 hours later + $377. 00 I drove away in hopes of being reimbursed by manufactureer to repay my friend footing this bill!!.

43 Power Train problem of the 2010 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

Since I purchased this car in 2013 the front end makes a lot of popping creaking noises in the front end (not the engine). The local Dodge Chrysler dealer in naples FL. Could not figure it out. My local mechanic, whom I trusted for 18 years found that the wheel bearing int he front passenger side is faulty and this affects the brakes too. He replaced the front bearing (inner and outer bearings, cups, and repack). He removed and replaced both front end wheel speed abs sensors. My cost approx $500.

45 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/28/2012

I drove my 2007 chry Sebring to a store and pulled into a parking space and attempted to put my car in park, the physical gear shift inside the car was in park but my gage said I was in reverse & my car was stuck in this position. I had this same issue a couple of years ago & was told it happens alot on Chryslers & its a little plastic part that keeps breaking with no recall on it & we are forced to purchase the whole shift level when its not needed. Ready to trade it in because it keeps happening.

46 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/26/2012

While driving at a steady speed, vehicle will hesitate when climbing an incliine or when I accelerate, this is not a steady happening. I have taken it to two different Chrysler dealerships to have it computer checked but nothing shows up. A younger mechanic at the second dealership stated it sounded to him like possibly the clutches were slipping and causing the problem. Since it doesn't show up on the computer he suggested that I just continue driving until such time as it may stop moving completely and then the problem should be able to be found.

47 Power Train problem of the 2008 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

I lost power to my speed, my brakes failed. I was able to stop the car with my emergency brake. Once stopped I turned off my vehicle. Once I restarted the vehicle, the light did not come on however I still did not have the speed. My transmission would not shift from 3rd to overdrive. It would stay at 3000 rpm at 55 mph. My car normally runs @ 2500rpm or less up to 60mph. I do not know what I need to deo to have this issue resolved. This is my second time experiencing this with this vehicle. I also have a 2009 Chrysler pt cruiser and owned a 2006 Chrysler Sebring and never have experienced this.

49 Power Train problem of the 1998 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I went to have the transmission looked at as it's under warranty. I bought this car with 75,000 miles on it 3 years ago. Shortly after that the transmission went out. When the mechanic put one in he found out that there was already a used one in there. Two months later that tranmission went out and it got replaced. Well this brings us to present day where I'm getting it checked out and have them check everything out. They tell me that the rear ball joints are out and it'll cost $1200 to fix it. I'm like that's not worth it. I then find out that this is recalled.

50 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

I have a 2007 Chrysler Sebring automatic 4 cylinder. When driving the car intends to stutter somewhat. Especially in the rain. But whenever it accelerates at low speeds it would jump or hesitate like it wants to stall, I dont know if it could be the fuel type. I talked it over with the dealership they said it could be anything. I havent gotten it checked out yet because their going to charge me and if they cant figure the problem out. Then I wont be able to get my money back. Plus when going up a hill at a steady pace and at usual it would normally decrease in speed, I would have to smash on the pedal to just kick it in the next gear.

55 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

Bought the 2006 Sebring with 32,000 miles on it, just before the warranty expired. It now has 62,000 miles on it, and it leaking oil profusely. I had my mechanically inclined father look at it, and it appears to be an issue with the crankshaft. As I have been looking online, this appears to be a recurring problem with these vehicles, and worse yet, if it starts to become a problem before the warranty is up, dealers are simply replacing the seal, essentially putting a band-aid on the bigger issue and leaving the expense up to the consumer to deal with. At this time I think I caught it before it got the chance to lock my engine up, I just thank my lucky stars that I had to drop my son off to school on a cold day and had left the engine to idle while I walked him to the door, as the engine only leaks while running. Had this not have been the case, I was about to travel to a town that takes over an hour to get to, taking a road with virtually no good places to stop, and many "dead-zones" which would have made getting assistance nearly impossible and potentially dangerous. I am very disappointed and will not be choosing Chrysler for any future vehicles, unless this problem is rectified.

56 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 09/08/2010

On September 8, 2010, I was getting into my car on my way to work when I could not get the automatic stick out of park (out of gear). I just purchase my 2007 Chrysler Sebring on June 29, 2010 at a dealership in my home state, and is the first time I have encountered this type of problem with the vehicle. Prior issues I have experienced since purchasing the vehicle on June 29 is the multifunction (emission) and airbag sensors coming on. A brake sensor has been coming on and off. Both the multifunction and airbag sensors fixed on August 28, 2010. I was informed by the Chrysler mechanic shop that the brake sensor is okay. Now, I have new problem with the vehicle. The vehicle will have to be towed to a Chrysler dealer for repair. I have missed a day from work because of this issue.

57 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

I had been driving the vehicle all day. I later went to run an errand and the car would not let me get out of park. It was completely jammed. For absolutely no reason. It was very frustrating as I was headed to an important doctor's appointment. Had to aaa tow the vehicle. Very disappointing as this vehicle let me sit. Currently being repaired and public transportation will be needed to get to work.

58 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 07/11/2010

2007 Chrysler Sebring touring was stuck in park and would not allow me to shift into reverse, drive, neutral. Had to remove the chrome housing around the shifter and there is a little pink lever looking thing that I had to press backwards to allow the shifter to come free and go back into reverse or any gear. Vehicle this is a v-6 2. 7 engine.

59 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 07/04/2010

I went to start up my car for the first time that day and when I tried to put the car in drive the shifter would not shift. At first I thought it was because the e brake was on but once that was removed the shifter still would not go past the "p" icon. I tried pushing the rear of the car to jar it loose, to no effect. The previous day the car drove fine and I had no issues. I eventually had to call a tow truck to pick the car up and take it to a repair shop. They told me that they would have to replace the entire shifter and it cost me $275. I bought the car this year with under 50,000 miles on it. I haven't had any other problem with the car until now. The repair shop replaced the shifter with the exact same shifter from the Chrysler corp. I now find myself wondering if the same thing will happen again?.

60 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 07/03/2010

Chrysler-sebring 2007,( 2. 4 ) car stuck in park, unable to drive it. This happened on my job. I had to get it towed. I'm happy I was in a safe place. This is very serious, I could have been in an unsafe place and it could have happened at nite. This should be a recall, my friend has this same exact car and it happened to her, I would like Chrysler to repay the money that I must pay to get it repaired.

61 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 05/25/2010

My wife drives a 2007 Chrysler Sebring and on may 25th 2010 when she got in her car to go home from work, she was unable to shift the car out of park. She immediately called me and I looked for information on the web and discovered this was sort of a common problem for Chrysler and it was due to a faulty or defective 'shift interlock control system'. On several forums I saw that several Sebrings, pt cruisers, and Chrysler 300s have had the same or similar issues. We called our local Chrysler/Dodge dealership, landmark Chrysler dodger in morrow, GA and the service center informed us that they see this issue "all the time" and it not only affects the vehicles mentioned above, but it also includes Dodge chargers as well. The went on to state that it would cost us approximately $350 to fix the issue. There is no way to disable the system and circuvent the cost of repair, our only option is to pay to have it fixed .

62 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

2007 Chrysler Sebring, this has been an ongoing problem that has resulted in numerous trips to the mechanic. I have a constant vibration while driving the vehicle from speeds around 50-70+ mph. Whatever the vibration is can be felt throughout the passenger compartment as if your sitting in a massage chair. This problem is also causing the brake rotors to warp and fail (safety safety) issue. I am on my fourth set of rotors, third set of brake pads, and third set of tires. In addition I have replaced the hub bearings as well. All by the recommendation of various mechanics. I am afraid that since most of my time in my vehicle is on the interstate that I will have a complete failure at high speeds. The Chrysler dealer doesn't care about the issue they only want you to keep coming back paying the outrageous labor rates. One repair shop all but told me to stop coming. This vehicle has a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed by Chrysler. This problem is on going and I have to deal with it everyday, cause no one can fix it. When the rotors warp the vehicle is hard to control while braking.

63 Power Train problem of the 2004 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 11/30/2009

For approximately 2 weeks, my 2004 Chrysler Sebring has been having what I consider to be a huge safety issue. When the car is placed into reverse to back up, then shifted into drive and the gas pedal pressed, the car continues to travel in reverse. I placed the car in park, then shifted to drive. The car continued to travel in reverse. Again, shifted to park and back to drive. The car the drifted forward while the engine sounded like it was revving. I continued to shift from park to drive numerous times, and the car continued to drift and make the revving sounds. For the past 2 days, I have shifted from reverse to drive and have to stomp on the gas pedal, at which point the engine seems to lurch into gear and then drives fine. And when I say stomp on the gas pedal, I mean stomp - hard.

64 Power Train problem of the 1999 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 05/22/2009

While slowly backing out of our driveway in reverse in our 1999 Chrysler Sebring convertible, the car suddenly accelerated to full throttle, I stepped on the brake, tried to shift to neutral, instead shifted to drive and the car shot forward at full throttle until hitting a golf cart and the end of the garage, despite standing on the brake full force. It only stopped after turning off the ignition.

65 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 05/10/2009

I have a 2007 Chrysler Sebring and the gear shifter stopped working. (shift assembly) the shifter will no longer shift out of park by just pressing the break. We tried to reset it but it would not work and also tried other options in the car manual and they didn't work. We took the cover off and tried to find the problem we found that the only way to move into gear is by pressing down the pink button on the left hand side in the downward position while pressing the break and it will go in and out of gear. Went to the Dodge dealership and they said this is not the first time they have seen this problem in this year model and make. The issue is about $300 to fix, we had this vehicle for less than a year before it happened and the car itself is in great condition. The issue is the shift assembly we have yet to get it fixed because the car was new and is obviously a defect from the manufacturer. The car showed no signs of anything wrong before it happened just went to start it and wouldn't move from the park position.

66 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/09/2007

Car stalled for second time while in park. First at 34000 mi then again at 69000 mi. Have read all the blogs. . . To take apart console and perform surgery is ridiculous!.

67 Power Train problem of the 1999 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

Gear ratios for first and second gears were damaged by transmission fluid.

68 Power Train problem of the 2001 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

I am having issue with my transmission, (the electronic automatic transmission) part which I had an estimate of close to $2000 to be repaired.

69 Power Train problem of the 1999 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 03/12/2003

The transmission locked up, which also caused the rear tires to lock up.

70 Power Train problem of the 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Failure Date: 11/15/2002

Front brake rotors warped beyond repair at delivery. Front grill area deeply scratched on both sides of grill. Transmission jerks badly when going into gear. All tires badly out of balance at delivery. Because of the out of balance tires and the warped brakes the abs system sensor could receive false signals therefore rendering the abs inoperable.
