This car for sure is a lemon. I am attaching the e-mail that I have sent to several people. This car has given me nothing but trouble. Please help me with some much needed advice. Last September 2012, the rack and pinion failed. The vehicle had 52,000 miles on when the first rack and pinion failed. The vehicle was repaired. However, it still had the same noise as before. The dealer then stated the vehicle needed a new steering column. Then I was told the axle and wheel bearing were bad. . . Updated 12/17/13.

2010 Chrysler Sebring. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle racking pinion problems. The consumer stated the rack pinion failed again three years later. When the consumer picked the vehicle up, from the dealer, the noise was still there. The consumer returned to the dealer, and according to their diagnosis, the vehicle needed a new steering column. When the consumer picked the vehicle up again, the noise was still present. The technician informed the consumer, the noise was coming from the rack and pinion again, and there was no remedy. Later in the evening, the vehicle began making another noise, and was taken back to the dealer, where they determined the left front axle and wheel bearing needed to be replaced.
On September 30, 2010, I purchased a 2008 Chrysler Sebring from a dealership in Plymouth, WI. The car had 19,204 miles on it. The car also had bridgestone turanza tires. I took my car into tires plus for an oil change at 22,700 miles on the dash. I was told by the technician that I needed new tires, because my tires had 3/32 of tread on them. On January 28, 2011, there was a recall on the car so gandrud installed a auto trans shift lever interlock spring. They also checked tire pressure and set tire pressure. A about a month later, I started having trouble with getting my key out of the ignition switch. Having to wiggle the steering column to get it out. I took the car back to gandrud to have them check it and they told me nothing was wrong with it. On may 11, 2011, I took my car in for another oil change and tire rotation. Gandrud told me I had 4/32 tread on the tires at 30,026 miles. On June 24, 2011, I took it back to gandrud for another oil change at 33,572 miles on the dash and was told I had 4/32 of tire tread left on the tires. It was not two months later, I moved to milwaukee, WI. On August 18, 2011, amato Hyundai was running a special for $12. 00 an oil change. I went got an oil change and the technician there told me I needed to get new tires for the car. He stated at this time I had less than 2/32 of tread on my tire. I got a quote from the service guy, decided I can beat that price. Set-up an appointment with tires plus for four tires an alignment. Unfortunately, I did not make it to get my new tires on the car. On September 03, 2011, I was involved in a car accident on the freeway. I was traveling in far left lane, maneuvering to the middle lane when my steering wheel and my tires were no longer functioning together. I almost lost my life that day, but god so fit for me to live to tell about it. It was the most shocking day of my life. I thank god I am here to make a complaint. These dealerships can't continue to scam us this way. It's not worth our life.

The contact owns a 2008 Chrysler Sebring convertible. While driving 10 mph and attempting a right turn, the steering wheel locked and the contact had to utilize extreme bodily force in order maneuver the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed the failure as a defective steering column rack. The steering column rack was replaced yet the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer however, they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.
When moving the steering column, all power cuts off in the car including the motor stopping. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer twice and they fixed the problem, but a fews months later the same problem came back. It occurs every time the steering wheel is adjusted.

Owner says that the floor mats bind up, causing the mats to tangle up with the intermediate steering shaft coupler, which could cause the vehicle to lose steering control. Currently the manufacturer recalled the 1998-99 Sebring jxi convertible limited edition. The owner has a jx convertible which was not being recalled for this problem.

I have read about sludge build up in the engine of the Chrysler Sebring 2. 7 engines. I am experiancing a knocking noise in the engine or suspension that is intermettent. I experiance this problem when my engine is hot and also when the weather is hot (as I live in florida). I do not notice this when the weather is cooler and the engine is cool. Could this be the starting of engine build up too. Suncoast Chrysler cannot seem to find anything wrong. Would a diagnosis test on the engine reveal signs of build up? how can I have this checked out and fixed? I have also experianced a clicking noise in my sterring column which suncoast claims to have a TSB on this problem and needs to replace a some parts. Your input is greatly appreciated.
Purchased 2004 Chrysler Sebring from ed tomko dealership in avon lake, OH on sept 23rd. After 270 miles (9-29-03) the steering column started to shake while idling at stop lights (visibly shaking and makes it difficult to keep my hands on the steering wheel, as my entire upper body feels the affects). I took the car into the ed tomko dealership on oct 6th and was told this was normal for a 4 cylinder (I have owned 4 cylinder Chrysler vehicles for 14 years and never encountered this defect). I called the dealership the next morning and spoke to the gm who passed me off to the service manager (later I was told this was no longer the sales dept's concern-it was now a service issue). The service mgr, dave tomko, told me he was involved with the car the previous day and saw no problem. I brought the car back on oct 9th for dave tomko to visually confirm the defect via a road test. He told me this was normal and I had no other recourse than to seek arbitration. I have contacted Chrysler's customer assistance center (reference # 11733597) and have been brushed off. They sided with dave tomko and several e-mails later, told me if I didn't think this was normal to go to another dealership. I have since taken the car to another dealership (oct 20th). They agreed it was not normal and upped the curb idle speed (as the shaking became more prominent when the idle speed dropped). The problem has re-surfaced and the car was returned to the dealership on Nov 6th. They have faxed the sensor readings to Chrysler. I have not heard anything as of today, Nov 8th, and the car remains defective. I am concerned about not being able to maintain control of my vehicle while idling at intersections, since it is uncomfortable to keep my hands on the steering wheel while idling.

1997 Chrysler Sebring lxi
as I was driving down the freeway at approximately 75 - 80 mph, I felt this really hard jerk in my car where I had to rapidly grab the steering wheel with both my hands to control the car. The jerk slightly made my car steer to the right and the person on the right of me had to move out of the way. Luckily nothing happened, but what if something would of. Chrysler needs to really pay attention to these things and make sure that everything is safe, especially when it comes to a person's safety. I consider this bad business practice because Chrysler does nothing to fix this problem to the already existing Chrysler car buyers. Good business practice is keeping the client happy, and this goal is not being met by this company. I'm 20 years of age and now I'm stuck with a car that doesn't work, I still owe on, and is my only way of transportation.

Recall campaign 984: the vehicle's floor mats became snagged in steering column intermediate shaft coupler pinch bolt retaining pin and limited steering ability. The manufacturer refused repair the vehicle under the recall due to VIN.
When driving and turning the floor mat gets caught in the bottom of the steering column because there is no boot surrounding the steering column, which makes it impossible to turn. Also, the steering locks up. Dealer says that it is just the way it's made.
